Chapter 25 - Chapter 25: Kyoraku and Nanao

"Shoutarou Kageyama! Nine soul burials, passed!"

"Tobio Hyuga! Thirteen soul burials, very impressive! Passed!!"

The students stood in front of a black device. Each time the instructor called a name, the student would step forward and place their Asauchi on the device.

The instructor would then use a special method to determine the number of souls buried by the student, which was used to judge whether their internship was successful.

The next name was called.

"Shigure Segawa!"

Instantly, many eyes turned to look.

This genius who had shone brightly since his debut—what would his soul burial score be? Everyone was wondering.

With a calm expression, Shigure walked forward and placed his blade on the black device.

The instructor glanced at Shigure, his face showing a hint of expectation.

"Shigure Segawa! Five soul burials… Hmm? Wait… five?!"

The instructor's eyes widened. After double-checking, he looked at Shigure in surprise. "Shigure, you only performed five soul burial ceremonies?"

Hearing this, several students began to chuckle quietly.

So it seemed that even this genius had his weaknesses.

Shigure replied calmly, "According to school regulations, five soul burials are sufficient to pass, correct?"

"Well… yes, that's true…" The instructor's expression turned awkward. "But generally, students try to perform as many soul burials as possible to achieve better scores…"

Halfway through his explanation, he stopped. He suddenly remembered that Shigure had applied for an early internship. There was no need to expect high scores from him. As long as he passed, he would qualify to apply for early graduation.

"Please continue announcing the results, instructor," said Shigure.

"Ah, right." The instructor regained his composure and announced, "Shigure Segawa! Five soul burials, passed!"

After speaking, he handed over a green bamboo token, symbolizing the successful completion of the internship.

Shigure accepted it politely, then picked up his blade from the device and turned to leave.

As he walked out of the crowd, someone finally noticed that he was carrying his blade in his hand—there was no scabbard on his waist.

The group of students exchanged puzzled looks.

What happened? How could a soul burial internship result in losing the scabbard?

After leaving the sixth-year building, Shigure first visited the scabbard storage room. After all, walking around the school carrying a bare blade was somewhat inappropriate.

Once he got a new scabbard, Shigure didn't return to the dormitory. Instead, he headed straight to the central area of the Shinō Academy.

He was going to apply for early graduation.

Since the system hadn't assigned him any new tasks, Shigure decided to follow his own plan. Staying in the academy any longer would just be a waste of time.

Meanwhile, in the 7th Division barracks of the Seireitei.

"Ah, little Nanao, come take a walk with me? The cherry blossoms over there are especially beautiful!" Shunsui Kyoraku said with a smile, addressing the bespectacled girl beside him.

"Captain Kyoraku, please be serious. Even if you don't want to complete the mission personally assigned by the Head Captain, at least don't interfere with my work," replied Nanao Ise, the 7th Division's lieutenant, with a calm expression. She adjusted her glasses while holding a book.

Shunsui Kyoraku gave a sheepish smile.

Just then, someone wearing the Shinō Academy uniform suddenly ran in.

He stopped at the entrance of the barracks, bowed deeply, and said loudly, "I deeply apologize for disturbing you, Captain Kyoraku!"

Seeing the uniform, Shunsui Kyoraku raised an eyebrow.

It was rare for someone from the Shinō Academy to visit the barracks of the Gotei 13.

"What's the matter?" Shunsui Kyoraku asked.

"Uh… two weeks ago, you told us that if Shigure Segawa applied for early graduation, we should notify you immediately!" The visitor spoke quickly with his head lowered.

Hearing this, Shunsui Kyoraku froze for a moment.

"You're saying he applied for early graduation today?"

"Yes!"

Shunsui Kyoraku was momentarily stunned, then chuckled and adjusted his hat. "Well, well, he's really given me a pleasant surprise…"

Next to him, Nanao Ise asked instinctively, "Captain, is this Shigure Segawa the one who reportedly had captain-level spiritual pressure when he enrolled?"

The rumor had been circulating within the Gotei 13 for some time, and of course, Nanao Ise had heard of it.

Shunsui Kyoraku nodded, smiling. "Little Nanao… this is a true genius. Not just in talent, but even in growth speed—he's a genius among geniuses."

As he spoke, he stood up, draped his pink haori over his shoulders, and said with a smile, "I can't miss the debut of such a genius… So, little Nanao, please report to the Head Captain on my behalf. I'll head to the academy to supervise Shigure Segawa's graduation review."

With that, he stood up and walked out.

"Understood, Captain," Nanao Ise replied with a slight bow.

Although her expression remained calm, she felt a bit curious.

It was rare for the captain to show such interest in external matters… Who exactly was this Shigure Segawa?

Well, at least it was better than him idling around all day. At least this was proper business…

A faint smile appeared on Nanao Ise's face as she headed off to report to the Head Captain.
