Chapter 50 - Chapter 50: Tracking

About twenty minutes later, Gazef and the Black Scripture team exited the residence together and parted ways at the gate.

Gazef sat in the carriage taking him back to City Hall, not uttering a single word. Reflecting on the meeting, his heart felt heavy. After his first request for help was denied, he tried to shift the person he was asking for help from, hoping that the girl, Enri, could assist them to some extent. As a citizen of the kingdom, the girl should have been easier to persuade than others, he had thought.

Unfortunately, Enri's only reply was, "I must report to Lord God and obtain his permission before I can respond to you." Gazef couldn't force anything. He knew the situation in the kingdom better than anyone. Under the corrupt politics, very few ordinary civilians were willing to sacrifice for the country, not to mention the residents of Carne Village had experienced such misfortune before. Perhaps at this moment, in the hearts of those villagers, what was called the nation, the nobles, and the king were no longer as reliable as the adult who had saved them. The national cohesion of the people was too weak.

"Why..." Gazef shook his head. At this point, he could only inform Panasole of the bad news and find another way to deal with it.

The carriage then sped off, heading back towards the city hall, leaving wheel tracks on the darkening streets.

On the other side, the Black Scripture members were on their way back to the inn. The captain was digesting the information he had just received. Unlike Gazef, this was E-Rantel, not part of The Slane Theocracy, so he wasn't as nervous as Gazef about the potential threat posed by Ainz Ooal Gown. After reporting the news to the High Priest, the Church's top leaders would discuss how to deal with Ainz Ooal Gown, and he wouldn't need to worry about this issue anymore.

Then there was the issue of the Sunshine Scripture. Enri's asking price was very high, but compared to the resources needed to train a magic caster team, the price was still within an acceptable range, so a deal was successfully reached. Next, he only needed to transport the goods from the country and hand them over to the other party to complete the exchange.

Therefore, only one thing needed his focus now: tracking down the original artifact, Downfall of Castle and Country. The third party who appeared in yesterday's attack was suspected to be related to Zuranon. Although their strength wasn't as great as Kael's and Ainz Ooal Gown's, they weren't easy characters to deal with. However, after learning of the original artifact's disappearance, the High Priest seemed ready to send the artifact in the country out. Before that, he and the others had to find the location of the attacker's base.

"Quaiesse, have you contacted the person from the Windflower Scripture?" The captain looked at the [One-Man Army] beside him and asked.

Quaiesse nodded, his eyes dimming slightly. "We have informed the Windflower Scripture about the situation. They said they would do their best to track down the traitor and find her hiding place as soon as possible."

"...That's good." The captain noticed that Quaiesse's mood became a little depressed when he mentioned "the traitor," but he didn't show it. The former ninth seat of the Black Scripture, Wind Walker, also known as Clementine, was Quaiesse's biological sister. Over her treacherous behavior, Quaiesse should not only feel angry but also feel self-blame, as if he neglected the changes in his sister and led her astray.

Everyone returned to the hotel where they were temporarily staying and walked in one by one, ending the short journey.

However, they were completely unaware that not far behind them, a white-haired old man in a black butler's uniform was watching their disappearing backs with a contemplative look in his eyes.

Sebas Tian, the steward of the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick, was an unparalleled level 100 human-dragon NPC. Besides him, Nazarick members who had infiltrated E-Rantel City included another level 100 guardian, Shalltear Bloodfallen, a level 57 combat maid, Solution Epsilon, and several roughly level 30 shadow demons who secretly followed them. This time, in addition to continuing the intelligence-gathering mission left by the Supreme Being, they also had a mission to investigate the third-party force that Demiurge was assigned to infiltrate human society. Following Demiurge's reminder, Sebas waited near Kael's house and finally found the Black Scripture members.

"From now on, if we keep an eye on them, we might be able to find the organization called Zuranon." Sebas Tian calmly continued forward, then walked towards the hotel where the Black Scripture team was staying, his shadow gliding smoothly among the night crowd.

About two minutes later, he exited the hotel again, walking on the street with a normal expression, as if nothing had happened. Shadow Demons had the special ability to completely merge with darkness and were highly skilled in covert operations. It was enough to leave them at the inn to monitor the actions of the Black Scripture Force. What needed to be done next was to wait.

Eh?

Sebas Tian suddenly stopped and looked back at the young man who had just passed him. The person's aura was no different from an ordinary person, and his walking style didn't look like a trained soldier.

Even though intelligence gathering was important, he also had to be careful not to reveal his identity or do anything irrelevant. Recalling the instructions given by the Supreme Being before he left, Sebas Tian suppressed the strange feeling that inexplicably arose in his heart and prepared to return to his residence to reunite with Shalltear and the others.

At this moment, the young man walking in the opposite direction to Sebas Tian noticed the considerable distance between them, and the corner of his mouth slightly lifted.

That's interesting. The old man at the door actually followed the Black Scripture. It seems tonight's show will be even more exciting.

As night fell, the city's magical streetlights had illuminated, providing light for those walking at night.

A figure wrapped in a cloak walked in the dark, unreachable by light, and a faint clinking sound of metal could be heard as the figure moved. Clementine's frail yet agile body sped through the shadows.

Suddenly, the black shadow seemed to notice something behind it, and the inside of its hood trembled slightly. Its steps quickened, merging with the darkness.

The figures following behind also hastily accelerated their movements, and both sides began to move quickly through the dark alleys of the city, launching a secret pursuit. They were a special pursuit unit of the Black Scripture, tasked with hunting down this traitor.

"Tch! I've been wandering this city all day, and they've only just tracked me. These idiots' abilities have really deteriorated," Clementine turned her head towards the Black Scripture Assassin who was closely following her, a disgusted sneer forming at the corner of her mouth.

Calculating that the time was almost up, she was too lazy to continue playing cat and mouse with her pursuers and moved directly towards the city cemetery.

Soon after, she easily bypassed the lax cemetery defense checkpoints and returned to the sacrificial temple deep within the graveyard.

Just as she was about to rush into the ancestral hall, a gigantic petrified lizard suddenly leaped out of the hall, opening its bloody mouth, ready to bite her!
