Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Demon

Hearing this, Tanjiro carefully examined the bamboo basket and then said, "Shin-sempai, wait a moment!"

With that, Tanjiro began to modify the bamboo basket.

Shin Arashi watched quietly from the side. He didn't know how to handle this kind of manual work—after all, he wasn't from this era.

After some time, Tanjiro finished modifying the basket. Now it was much more airtight, and sunlight could barely get through. All that was needed was a piece of cloth to cover it.

Tanjiro walked into the cave with the modified bamboo basket. After placing Nezuko inside, the three—Shin Arashi, Tanjiro, and Nezuko—set off towards Sagiri Mountain once more.

Night

Shin Arashi, Tanjiro, and Nezuko, who was now able to move out of the bamboo basket, arrived outside a Buddhist temple.

"Shin-sempai, there is a Buddhist temple, and we can see lights. There should be people there. Let's go and take a look!" Tanjiro said to Shin Arashi.

Shin Arashi naturally had no objection. After all, it was late at night, and there was just the right place to rest.

"Yes!" Shin Arashi nodded and said, "Let's go in and take a look."

Just as Shin Arashi finished speaking, Tanjiro's face suddenly changed, and then he said in horror, "There's a smell of blood! The mountain road here is steep, someone must be injured!"

After saying that, the kind-hearted Tanjiro immediately pulled Nezuko and ran toward the Buddhist temple.

Shin Arashi had no time to stop him and had to follow him.

Shin Arashi's nose was not as good as Tanjiro's, so he didn't smell the blood at first.

It was only when Shin Arashi ran into the Buddhist temple that he vaguely smelled the scent of blood.

At this time, Tanjiro was already in front of the door of the Buddhist temple. He pushed the door open and asked inside, "Is the person inside, okay?"

But the next moment, Tanjiro stood there in a daze, his face suddenly turning pale.

Shin Arashi, who was a step slower than Tanjiro, came to his side. He then looked inside the Buddhist temple and saw a scene that shocked him.

There were several human corpses in the Buddhist temple, and all of them had been eaten. The demon that was eating the corpses was squatting in front of one of the bodies, making sounds of chewing food.

Shin Arashi's expression became extremely solemn, and he made a gesture as if he was drawing his sword to fight.

"Take Nezuko with you and go!" Shin Arashi ordered Tanjiro very quickly and forcefully.

Tanjiro, obviously frightened, didn't hear Shin Arashi's words at all. He just stood there frozen, with no reaction.

"What are you doing! Hey! This is my territory!" The man-eating demon had already noticed Shin Arashi and the others, so it stood up and turned around impatiently.

"This smell... are you human?" the demon asked to itself.

Before it finished speaking, the demon charged straight at Shin Arashi.

"That's fast!" Shin Arashi thought in surprise. With no time to dodge, he quickly got into a defensive stance.

The demon hit him hard, sending him flying. In mid-air, Shin Arashi swung his sword at the demon's neck.

The demon was slashed, and it quickly jumped back to put some distance between them.

Shin Arashi struggled to regain his balance and finally steadied himself. After getting back on his feet, he didn't rush to attack or transform into a demon.

Becoming a demon came with painful side effects, and Shin Arashi didn't want to go through that kind of suffering.
