Name has power.
It was a saying well-known in Alex's past life—and just as true in this one.
A name is a unique identity that validates a person, creature, object, or even an abstract concept's existence within the world.
It is the thread that binds an entity to its world… its reality.
And nowhere is this more true than with a True Name.
'Ordinary' names are usually given to a being or entity by others. They can be arbitrary, whimsical, or symbolic—sometimes entirely unrelated to the one who bears them. Yet, they gain power through the shared recognition of both the individual and those around them.
True Names, however, are different.
They are not given by others.
They are names revealed through mutual acknowledgement—between the world and the self.
A True Name is the distilled essence of a being's identity, the metaphysical core of who and what they are. It is not something one chooses, but something one uncovers.
