As they reached the front steps, Annabelle caught sight of the men still groaning on the ground outside. Stunned by the sight, she looked up at Noah, curious about who he was—someone who seemed both gentle and dangerous.
"You're welcome. You don't have to thank me again," Noah said, noticing that her surprised gaze never flinched from him.
"You're hurt because of me, and I won't thank you for that. I'm sorry for what I said to you earlier today," Annabelle apologised, her chest tightening at the memory of her mistaken belief that rich men didn't care about a lowly girl like her.
"I'm not offended," Noah replied softly, letting out a sigh while he looked up at the sky, which was covered with dark clouds. "I think maybe I should get ready to live on the street soon since I can't foresee how long this situation will last."
She noticed the punch on his face was brutal; it must have hurt him, especially since he was known to be the prince charming who valued his appearance.
