Chapter 81 - Volume 1 Chapter 81: The Library

The school's library is located on the top floor of the teaching building, and it covers an extensive area, occupying the entire floor.

Since the start of the semester, this was Ning Chu's first visit to the library.

Using his student ID to get a library card at the front desk, he curiously looked around as he followed Wen Yang into the towering shelves.

A place like the library is also a common setting for plot-heavy scenes in these novels...

Public places, quiet, with few people around—libraries have a high appearance rate in novels tagged with "discipline" in certain types of stories.

In Ning Chu's book, there was a similar scene: the protagonist and his current girlfriend, seeking thrills, brought a small toy to the library for a shameful little game.

But he wasn't too worried about triggering such a scene in the library this time, mainly because Wen Yang currently didn't have a girlfriend.

This little virgin didn't have the guts to do such things anyway.

During lunchtime, the library wasn't very crowded, with only a few students scattered around.

"So many books..." Ning Chu lowered his voice instinctively upon entering the library. His eyes scanned the shelves as he mumbled, "No novels? It's just reference books."

"They're probably in another section."

The two of them wandered aimlessly between the bookshelves.

The books here were diverse; besides all sorts of reference books, you could find novels, magazines, and comics on the shelves.

Ning Chu even came across some BL and some other R18+ works.

He had to admit, the quality of the R18+ work in this world was really impressive.

But Ning Chu had no interest in such things anymore.

Whether it was due to hormones or his lack of "development," this former writer of explicit literature was turning into a monk.

Over the past two months, there had only been two instances where he felt a sense of heat and discomfort, which he quickly suppressed with rationality.

Wen Yang, on the other hand, was flipping through a history book he had picked out.

"Let's go eat... I'm hungry..." Ning Chu, bored, started complaining from the side. "Let's go. There's nothing interesting about history books."

"I'm interested in this." Wen Yang looked up at him, amused, and suggested, "Why don't you go ahead without me?"

"Then I'll just stay here."

"Don't worry, if any girls approach me, I'll run the other way."

Men's promises are not to be trusted!

Previously, Wen Yang had seemed obedient and honest, but one slip-up and a basketball game almost led to a disaster!

Even with Wen Yang's assurance, Ning Chu couldn't just leave him alone.

He knew how easily men could lose their heads over a pretty girl.

So, Ning Chu randomly picked out a history book too, deciding to see if the history in this fictional world was any different from the one he remembered.

Ugh, this is giving me a headache... Just reading the table of contents made him put the book down.

It's easier to just look this up online—why bother reading here?

Seeing that Wen Yang was engrossed in his book, Ning Chu sighed and slowly wandered over to the fiction section.

Novels are more interesting.

When Wen Yang finally looked up after flipping through a few pages, Ning Chu was nowhere to be seen.

Putting the book back on the shelf, Wen Yang reached for another one that caught his eye.

Just as he extended his hand, a slender, delicate hand reached for the same book from the other side.

Wen Yang froze, surprised by the coincidental, almost cliché, moment.

He turned to see the owner of the hand: a tall girl with a cold expression, dressed in a snow-white dress.

This is...

As the class monitor, Wen Yang quickly recalled her name.

Lily, the only succubus in their class.

Succubi are rare in this world, and rumors say they're all seductive by nature.

But Lily was different; she kept a cold, distant demeanor with everyone, always wearing a stern expression that pushed people away.

This contrast between rumor and reality made her extremely popular and frequently discussed, placing her on par with Wen Yang as the class beauty and the class hunk.

Give it some time, and the two of them might even be crowned the school's top beauties.

"Give it to me." Lily's voice was as cold as her expression, emotionless as she met Wen Yang's eyes. "I saw it first."

"Sure, here you go."

Wen Yang immediately stepped back, picking up the book he had looked at earlier and walking away.

He had just promised Ning Chu not to interact with any girls, and he didn't want to see Ning Chu crying under the covers again.

That image was like a wife discovering her husband's infidelity.

After walking a few steps away from the history section, Ning Chu appeared, holding a fantasy novel.

"Found what you wanted? Let's go eat!"

As soon as Wen Yang saw Ning Chu, his eyes started darting around, as if just talking to a girl was a sin.

He pretended to be casual as he looked towards the library's front desk. "Sure, I'll just go check out this book first."

"I found a book too!" Ning Chu proudly held up the novel. "The premise seems interesting, and the writing is light and funny."

What's with that bragging tone?

It's like a child rushing to get a toy after seeing their friend's new one.

Wen Yang couldn't help but smile, nodding as he replied, "The title does seem interesting. Lend it to me after you're done."

"Just don't mess it up. Do we have to pay to borrow books?"

"No, but you can only borrow one at a time." Wen Yang explained as he filled out the borrowing form at the front desk. "Why don't we come back to the library this weekend? There's a lot of books here, enough to last through our college years."

"Well... okay!"

Compared to going out shopping, doing part-time jobs, or playing basketball—all activities that clearly required socializing—the library was practically devoid of social interaction.

Plus, those seductive temptresses usually didn't hang out in the library, making it a relatively safe place for Wen Yang.

After borrowing the books and leaving the library, Ning Chu scanned the area cautiously, reminding Wen Yang, "If we come on the weekend, make sure we leave by 6 PM."

"Huh? Why?"

Because a little virgin like you might get drained by a ghost!

Even the battle-hardened Wen Yang in the novels barely survived an encounter with a female ghost!

"Because... didn't they say the teaching building is haunted at night?"

Wen Yang chuckled, shaking his head. "Didn't we already check it out? It's just couples messing around, not ghosts."

"I..." Realizing the truth wouldn't be believed, Ning Chu had to come up with a new excuse. "I'm scared of the dark. The whole building is pitch black except for the library."

This reason matched his delicate, youthful appearance so well that Wen Yang accepted it without question, even adding, "No wonder you don't like going out at night."

After one act of rebellion and another close call with a green tea trap, Wen Yang had become much more compliant with Ning Chu.

This made Ning Chu both happy and worried.

Wen Yang's affection for him didn't seem to be decreasing at all!
