Her body trembled a little as she slowly looked up at the person standing in front of her.
Her tear-filled, dark eyes seemed to finally regain some focus.
"Jeffrey, please help me find Josephine," she said, like she had just snapped out of a daze. "The police only took my statement and said they'd look into it, but who knows when they'll actually start! If only I had remembered the full license plate… Why didn't I write it down properly?"
There was obvious self-blame in her voice.
Jeffrey stared at her.
The only other time he had seen her this anxious was when something happened to her grandma.
That made sense, her grandma was family. But Josephine?
She wasn't even related by blood. Yet Rachel was acting like she was losing her whole world.
A weird wave of jealousy hit him.
Why did she care so much about Josephine? Would she act like this if it were him instead?
"Let's head back. It's freezing out here," he said. "Your hands are ice-cold."
