[Lucian's POV]
"Who was he?" I kept on wondering after I turned my horse away from the barricade.
The seal never mattered, not really. If he thought that would be able to hold me down, he was wrong, but yet the fact that I had no choice but to turn back now felt like an insult to me.
The soldiers behind me followed in disciplined silence. Not a single question from one of them regarding my retreat. I'm sure they also knew; giving up was the last thing I would do. We weren't retreating—I was not surrendering.
This was a recalibration.
Arriving at the northern hills, I dismounted from my horse. "We camp here for the while," I commanded, as they gave a nod. "Alright, Alpha," the rest dismounted, setting up the camp.
While they were busy with that, I remained standing, turning my gaze back at the town, which was close enough to watch and yet far enough not to provide another order, bearing hound, baring teeth.
