Chapter 47 - Fire accident

[Elara's POV]

I never knew the moment I had shared with her—the drink glass that glinted and those gestures—to think that was the last time we would have such together.

Now I wondered how people close to those other wolves would feel, not knowing the whereabouts of someone close to them. Even I still wonder; I still hope if everything could be better. If only I could return to that moment, tell her all I wanted to say, have so much more discussion and fun with her than I did. But would that really ease the pain? It only hit me harder.

I closed my eyes for a moment, hoping the tears would stop as I took another breath. Kieran never let go, still remaining by my side.

I watched the fire in silence, allowing the little comfort to find me.

"Elara," Kieran said, his voice low, barely above the fire crackles. Our eyes met. "You don't have to carry that alone."
