After the meeting ended, the elders went out to supervise the rebuilding of the wall. I remained alone in the room with Damon. The space felt like it was too small, and I wanted to run from it, but I dared not move an inch as his gaze fixed me to the ground.
I looked around the room, avoiding his burning gaze, my heart thumping in my chest.
"How is your hand?" His question was like a sore thumb stuck out of place.
I swallowed, "Good." I wanted to end the conversation as suddenly as it had begun.
"Sit down," he commanded.
'Of course, master, treat me however you like. But know that one day I will stick a knife through your chest.'
I sat down on the chair, which was a little further from him.
"Come closer, Ember."
I didn't need to be told twice before I moved closer to him.
Silence fell on the room, that even a graveyard would be more lively. The tension was so palpable that it was difficult for me to breathe.
