Chapter 22 - Undead Society (1)

The only thing that I could do in the end was try to get as much information as possible from the pieces of paper that had survived the flames.

It was just that there really wasn't much that had survived.

From these pieces of paper that did survive, I could tell that these two cloaked figures had been necromancers.

Though that was already quite obvious by the fact that they had turned my corpse into a lich.

Also from these pieces of paper, I could see a few things that seemed to be books on necromancy. These were books that contained the theory that a necromancer needed to cast their magic.

Only it seemed that most of it was burnt to the point where I couldn't actually get anything useful from them.

The only things that I was able to get in the end were a few simple spells.

It was the basic spells of necromancy that I already knew, but the insight from the books had increased the level of these spells. It was like a consumable item that helped increased the skill exp of these skills.

It took a while, but I was able to find something useful.

"Are these orders?" I muttered to myself as I read the pile of letters that I found.

This pile of letters had been hidden quite well, which was why they hadn't been burnt like the rest of the paper that was here. Though it didn't seem like there was much that could be learned from this.

The one thing that I did take note of was one specific order.

"Capture the kids that come for the Magic Tower's test. Turn their high grade corpses into high grade undead."

So it seemed that I wasn't the only one that was being targeted, it seemed that they were targeting all of the kids that came for the Magic Tower's test.

But that would mean offending the entire Magic Tower.

So whoever was behind these two cloaked figures and gave them this order was clearly not afraid of the Magic Tower.

They had enough power that they didn't care if the Magic Tower found out and chased after them.

"Why is it so hard to become a magician? All I wanted to do was learn some magic…" I couldn't help complaining to myself with a sigh.

But there was nothing that could be done now that I had already been turned into a lich.

"What are your plans now?" The other three asked me when I contacted them again.

To be honest, I hadn't thought about this at all.

It had been hard enough that I had been turned into a lich, so I really didn't think about what to do next.

But they were right that I couldn't just keep wallowing in this despair. At the very least, I was still alive…or rather I was an undead who came back to life.

It was the demon king avatar Val Zahar that gave me the idea of what to do next.

"Why not attack the necromancers that are nearby? Now that you're a lich, you should be able to learn a few things if you destroy them and take their materials. That will help you become stronger."

"What if they have someone that's stronger than me?"

"With our shared stats, would that even be possible? Even if there is someone stronger, you should be able to get away without a problem as long as you don't do anything dumb."

"Actually, you can be revived as long as your phylactery is safe. So wait a bit and I'll come to get it. If I keep it safe, there should be no problem." The main body suggested this.

"That actually would work. As long as you keep the phylactery safe, aren't you basically immortal?"

All of them seemed to agree with the suggestion that the main body made, but I couldn't help revealing a bitter smile…or at least as close to one that I could make with this skeletal face of mine.

"Do you know how painful it is to die?"

"You don't know either since you were poisoned to death in your sleep." The three of them all said at the same time.

"You guys…have no compassion at all." I couldn't help complaining, but it didn't seem like any of them actually minded this.

Still, even I had to agree with the suggestion that they made.

It really did seem like this was the best idea since it would be killing two birds with one stone, but I really didn't want to die again either.

"Test out your skills for now and see how big of a force you can build. If need be, we can use you as one of the villains that the hero has to fight."

That was the plan that the other three came up with, but that just made me feel even more bitter.

I was supposed to become a great sage, one of the best magicians in this world.

Now I have been degraded down to being a lich…

It really was hard for me to accept.

"Screw that. Instead of just being any normal lich, I'll become the king of the undead. I'll become the god of death itself." I suddenly said in a determined voice.

Once I came to this decision, it was as if there was some kind of cloud that was lifted from my mind and I was able to focus once more.

With this decision made, I started looking closely at the skills that I gained as a lich.

The first one that I chose to use was…

"Arise." I said while pointing a finger at the burnt corpses of the two cloaked figures.

As I said this, there were bones that came out of the corpses that seemed to take the shape of a skeleton. Then after that, there was a cloak that appeared out of nowhere and wrapped around these skeletons.

When it was over, there were two cloaked skeletons holding a staff standing there.

Once they finished forming, the first thing that I did was…

"How dare you do this to me!" I said while kicking them to pieces.

The two skeletal mages just didn't resist at all as I vented my anger on them.
