Chapter 6 - Chapter 6- The Night

Wu Tangge's Perspective

I hovered above the Lin Clan estate under the moonlit sky, my eyes glowing faintly with residual power. The blood of two assassins still clung to my aura, but what clung tighter was the certainty—

Yun Ling'er was behind it.

"Haha… so she really is trying to kill me," I muttered to myself.

With a flap of my spiritual robe, I soared across the estate until I reached the jade-tiled balcony outside her room. The window shimmered behind soft lantern light.

I landed silently, my fingers brushing the air as I knocked against her door.

"Ling'er… can you open the door?"

Silence.

I knocked again. Then harder. "Ling'er—"

The door suddenly swung open. A hand yanked me inside before I could blink.

Yun Ling'er's eyes blazed with fury. "What do you think you're doing, you bastard? What if someone saw you here?!"

She turned her back to me and walked toward the moonlit window, the silhouette of her white robes gleaming like ice.

"Speak, then leave," she said flatly.

I stepped forward, lips curled into a smile. "Ah, it's just that two little bugs slipped into my room earlier. They disturbed my cultivation, so I killed them. But now their rotting smell is irritating me… so I thought I'd come here."

She stiffened.

"You what?" she said, clearly shocked.

"You heard me," I said casually. "They're gone."

"You could've just asked for another room," she said, trying to regain her composure.

I smirked. "Nope. I was thinking… maybe I'll sleep here."

She laughed coldly. "And you think I'll let you?"

I closed the distance between us and gently pulled her by the wrist, turning her toward me. "Hmm… yes, I do."

A faint blush touched her cheeks before she scowled and pushed me back.

"Don't touch me again, or I'll kill you."

I laughed lightly. "Why? You are my fiancée, aren't you?"

Her eyes narrowed with venom. "Fiancée? After what you did to me, you really think I'd accept you? What a joke."

My smile faded slightly, and I looked at her more seriously.

"So you believe I killed you?"

She scoffed. "Who else? You betrayed me… you destroyed my clan."

I nodded. "You know I'm the Evil God's successor."

"I do," she said coldly. "And don't worry. Soon, the whole realm will know."

I sighed, stepping a little closer. "That day… when I killed you… I wasn't in control. The evil energy consumed me. I lost consciousness. I wasn't myself."

I wasn't lying… not entirely. I didn't have the memories—but something in her gaze made me wish I did. Wish I could undo them.

She stared at me, fury and heartbreak twisting her expression. "Lies. You say you weren't yourself, but that doesn't bring back my people. My clan. My future."

Tears welled in her eyes, falling despite her struggle to keep her composure.

Before she could turn away, I stepped in and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close.

"If you want to kill me… then do it now."

My heart thudded violently in my chest.

Please don't stab me… please don't…

She stood frozen. Then slowly, she drew her sword.

My breath caught in my throat.

Her blade shimmered behind me.

She raised it—high.

I clenched my fists, preparing to shield myself if she struck…

But the sword never came down.

Her hands trembled. Her shoulders shook.

The sword slipped from her fingers and clattered to the floor.

"I can't…" she whispered through sobs. "Why did you do this to me…"

Tears ran freely down her cheeks. She collapsed against me, and I held her there—silently, protectively.

She didn't push me away this time.

I whispered, "Why? I'm your enemy…"

"I don't know…" she whispered back. "I just… can't."

I gently lifted her chin. Her eyes—wet, red, broken—met mine.

"I'll prove it," I whispered.

And then I kissed her.

Softly. Gently. Not as a conqueror… but as someone who didn't understand why this woman stirred something so deeply buried inside him.

She resisted at first. Her hands pushed against my chest.

But her body trembled.

And then… she gave in.

She didn't push me away.

Yun Ling'er's breaths were shallow, her eyes filled with tears that refused to fall. I held her close, her trembling body pressed to mine, caught between hatred and the ache of something she couldn't name.

"I should hate you," she whispered.

"Then hate me," I murmured, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "But let me stay… just for tonight."

She didn't answer. Instead, she leaned into me.

That was enough.

In the quiet of her room, beneath the pale moonlight, I lowered her gently onto the bed. She didn't stop me. Her fingers found mine—tentative, unsure—but she didn't let go.

Our lips met again, slower this time, no longer out of defiance, but longing.

Clothes slipped away between soft breaths.

No words. No explanations.

Only warmth shared between two broken souls trying to remember what it meant to feel.

That night, we weren't enemies.

Not heirs of rival fates.

Just Wu Tangge and Yun Ling'er—two hearts, scarred and searching, entwined beneath the stars.
