Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Rescue from the Rooftop

When Ren Tingting appeared before Fang Wei again, he was clearly agitated.

At this moment, he actually stood up, his eyes fixed tightly on Tingting below.

"Tingting, I'm waiting for one sentence from you right now. If you really don't want me, I'll jump off this building immediately, proving my feelings for you with my death."

Ren Tingting was afraid that Fang Wei would actually jump, so she said, "Alright, Fang Wei, I know how good you've been to me. Yesterday, I wronged you, and I promise there won't be a second time."

Hearing this, Fang Wei seemed deeply moved. He said, "Okay, Tingting, come up to the roof now. I have something to tell you."

Upon hearing this, I immediately sensed that things were far more complicated than I had imagined.

The expression on Ren Tingting's face was also unpleasant; I knew she definitely didn't want to go up.

But then Zhang Zhiyuan said, "Tingting, you should go up. Don't worry, we will ensure your safety."

I have never trusted such empty promises, but at this moment, I couldn't object.

I said to Ren Tingting, "Agree to it first, and I'll go up with you."

At this, Ren Tingting shot me a grateful glance.

Seeing us talking below, Fang Wei's emotions grew even more intense. He said, "Hurry up and call Ren Tingting up, otherwise I'll really jump."

Zhang Zhiyuan was sweating heavily from anxiety. He said, "Quickly, go up and calm him down."

I shouted to Fang Wei, "Ren Tingting is coming up, wait a moment."

After saying that, I followed closely behind Ren Tingting.

Actually, the stairs to the office rooftop are usually locked, but as the company's security guard, Fang Wei had the key.

At this moment, the corridor door was already open, and Zhang Zhiyuan had called three or four strong young men to follow closely behind Ren Tingting.

Once we reached the rooftop, we found Fang Wei sitting on the steps, looking very dangerous.

The company had no rescue equipment; if Fang Wei fell, he would either die or be crippled.

If that happened, Zhang Zhiyuan would not only have to pay compensation but might also face legal trouble.

For a company already wobbling in difficulties, this was something they absolutely could not afford.

Seeing so many people behind Ren Tingting, Fang Wei suddenly became unwilling. He told her, "Tell these people to stand back."

I knew clearly that not doing as Fang Wei said would not work, so I quickly told the strong young men, "You all go down."

Those men hesitated but eventually left.

By now, I had learned my lesson and stepped back about ten paces from Fang Wei.

Fang Wei's gaze never left Ren Tingting. I could feel that he still had deep feelings for her.

I couldn't understand how Ren Tingting could be so attractive to men—two men had almost jumped off buildings for her within three years.

At this point, Fang Wei said, "Tingting, you know my feelings for you. Why did you lie to me?"

Faced with Fang Wei's accusations, Ren Tingting really didn't want to confront him, so she couldn't say a word.

Fang Wei continued, "Tingting, why did you go behind my back to a hotel with another man? Where did I wrong you?"

Faced with an old love's questions, women hate answering because they know they're at fault and hate being criticized behind their backs.

Seeing the tense situation, I quickly said, "Fang Wei, don't be unreasonable. Tingting was just confused for a moment. She still has feelings for you."

Though I said that, in my heart I thought: as long as we get you down safely, Zhang Zhiyuan will deal with you properly. You'll pack your things and leave—if you want to die, that's your choice. No one will interfere.

For some reason, Fang Wei suddenly became extremely agitated and shouted to me, "Shut up!"

I really didn't expect the usually opportunistic Fang Wei to act so crazily.

Suddenly, I had a very bad feeling.

With a gentle gaze, Fang Wei looked at Ren Tingting and said, "Tingting, come here. Let me have a good look at you."

Faced with such madness, only fear was visible in Ren Tingting's eyes—she did not dare to move forward.

Seeing this, Fang Wei suddenly lunged at her like a wild wolf.

It was clear that he wanted to control Ren Tingting.

As for why, I had no idea.

In such a situation, we could not let Fang Wei succeed, so I quickly lunged at him too.

Although Fang Wei was tall and strong, because Ren Tingting struggled fiercely, it was difficult for him to move her.

This struggle gave me the chance to tackle Fang Wei to the ground.

Fang Wei tried to struggle up, but three or four strong young men behind me pounced on him and firmly pinned him to the rooftop.

At that moment, I wiped sweat from my forehead and finally felt some relief.

Ren Tingting was lying on the ground, probably scared senseless.

Next, the strong young men took over. They held Fang Wei down tightly and tied him up with rope.

This was to prevent any resistance—after all, this was the rooftop.

Soon, Fang Wei was escorted downstairs and brought before Zhang Zhiyuan.

Zhang Zhiyuan looked grim as he stared at Fang Wei—I knew he would deal with him severely.

Coincidentally, Manager Sun from HR was beside Zhang Zhiyuan.

Zhang said to him, "I'm leaving this guy to you. No matter what it takes, I never want to see him again."

Manager Sun, of course, followed Zhang's orders. Quickly, he summoned an HR assistant who brought a termination notice.

Although Fang Wei was a security guard, he was tougher than the previous guy, Xiang Qiufeng. He grabbed the termination letter and tore it to pieces, then turned and left the company.

This shows the difference between those with and without interests; life always reveals its harsh reality—people live for their gain.

After the drama subsided, I suddenly realized the company was short one security guard.

Lu Wan's brother, Lu Feng, didn't have a job. If he took the security position, maybe he would agree. After all, it wasn't hard work.

But then I thought, if Lu Feng went back and spilled everything about company matters to Lu Wan, there would be no way to clear my name.

It wasn't that I didn't want to help Lu Feng, but this guy was too reckless. I worried something bad would happen if he were on this post.

Everyone returned to their posts, and the incident was put to rest.

The first thing I did back in the sales department was hold a meeting.

When my eyes swept over Ren Tingting, I saw her distracted and seemingly lost her soul.

It was clear she had been deeply frightened by what happened; it was time to comfort her.

After thinking a moment, I said, "Tingting, how about this—you take the day off to rest. Don't come to work today. When you feel better, come back, alright?"

Hearing such generous conditions, everyone was stunned.

I thought to myself, although this incident was caused by Ren Tingting, she ultimately contributed greatly. Giving her a few days off was only fair.

Before she responded, I turned to Fu Xin. "Fu Xin, you're a responsible man. You take Tingting home. During this time, you care for her. When she comes back to work, you come back too."

Everyone in the sales department was shocked, not understanding why I would do this.

Fu Xin looked weary; clearly, Fang Wei must have caught them in the act yesterday, and Fu Xin had been despondent all night.

Ren Tingting and Fu Xin both understood my intention. Their expressions showed their feelings clearly.

Tingting looked happier, while Fu Xin remained expressionless.

Watching them leave the sales department, some of the more perceptive people finally understood why Fang Wei wanted to jump.

Then came the routine morning meeting. After assigning tasks, each salesperson gave me a report on their orders.

Although there was an official minute-taker, I took out my notebook to jot down key points.

These clients were the lifeblood of Xingchang. Maintaining good relationships with them was vitally important.

As the meeting neared its end, I suddenly thought of Ding Yahong and an important matter tonight.

I looked toward Ding Xiaozhou.

"Xiaozhou, how's the contract with Ding's side going?"

"The specifics have been agreed upon, just waiting for signatures."

"How much are they ordering?"

"Fifty barrels the first time, possibly more later depending on circumstances." For some reason, Ding Xiaozhou was confident about this client; it seemed the contract talks were going very well.

I was very satisfied with his answer and said, "If there's nothing else, meeting adjourned."

Everyone dispersed, except Liu Jing, who remained standing by the conference table.

If she hadn't stayed behind, I wouldn't have even noticed her.

Judging by the situation, I now firmly controlled the department.

Out of courtesy, I asked Liu Jing, "Manager Liu, do you have anything else?"

Liu Jing suddenly stared at me with a strange look.

It reminded me of how she looked when I was a driver—she had that same gaze.

I was certain it was a friendly look, but it always made me uneasy.

"Manager Zhao, it seems I really underestimated you."

She continued, "I never imagined your abilities went far beyond what I expected. But it's okay—this old lady still has her own cards to play."

From her words, she intended to battle me to the end.

Having worked closely with Zhang Zhiyuan for many years, I understood how formidable this woman was. For her to quietly serve as Zhang's mistress, she must have big ambitions.

It seemed I was merely a stumbling block in her path forward.
