Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: The School Hunk is a Warm-Hearted Guy

My gaze immediately landed on the woman wearing the red cloak, and my heart began to race.

To be honest, I really didn't want that person to be my wife.

At that moment, I had to thank heaven—because fate was still kind to me. When I saw her face, I realized that she was definitely not my wife.

Though her figure and age were similar to my wife's, and her face bore a slight resemblance, I could clearly tell that she was not Lu Wan.

Seeing this scene actually shocked me.

After all, Lu Feng was known as the campus heartthrob at Nanzhou University—a heartthrob who carried the pride befitting his title.

What in the world was he doing fooling around with this woman?

Could it be that my wife's choice of campus heartthrob was just some flirtatious playboy?

I couldn't believe my wife's taste was that poor.

But the facts were right before my eyes, leaving no room for doubt.

As soon as the woman in the red cloak appeared, Ding Yahong stepped forward and scolded her, "Lu Wan, you slut, seducing my husband! Today, I'm going to teach you a lesson!"

Then, without hesitation, Ding Yahong charged at her, ready to beat the so-called mistress—completely following the cliché of an enraged wife confronting a homewrecker.

Maybe because the woman in the red cloak looked very similar to my wife, I barely thought twice before stepping in between them.

Ding Yahong's face darkened instantly. "So you're going to protect your wife today?"

I shook my head and said, "She's not my wife."

Ding Yahong was stunned by my words. After a moment of hesitation, she turned her gaze to Lu Feng.

"Who do you say she really is?"

Lu Feng was sitting on the bed, his head lowered like a child who had done something wrong.

At Ding Yahong's question, he didn't answer a word.

Seizing the moment, I said to the woman in the red cloak, "It's not appropriate for you to stay here. Why don't you leave for now?"

She replied, "But my bag is still on the bed."

I thought for a moment and said, "I'll put your bag at the front desk. You can pick it up later."

Hearing this, she immediately opened the door and vanished in an instant.

By the time Ding Yahong realized what had happened, it was already too late.

Under the current circumstances, she could only vent her anger on her own husband.

I saw Ding Yahong swing a slap toward Lu Feng.

Five bright red palm prints suddenly appeared on Lu Feng's fair face.

Seeing this, I was stunned—I hadn't expected Ding Yahong to be so ruthless.

No wonder Lu Feng went out looking for other women; perhaps Ding Yahong's personality had something to do with it.

Although I didn't know the identity of the woman who just left, since her figure and looks resembled my wife so much, I suspected that Lu Feng was attracted to her because of this.

After all, first love is always the most beautiful.

I originally thought that after that slap, Lu Feng would be angry, but the reality surprised me.

He didn't even lift his head or glance at Ding Yahong.

I felt that Lu Feng had completely lost his fighting spirit, like a man whose temper had been utterly worn down.

I realized immediately that these years, Lu Feng hadn't been living happily.

Suddenly, I felt some sympathy for the man. I couldn't understand how he had ended up like this.

Ding Yahong said, "Lu Feng, I'll ask you one more time—are you coming home with me or not?"

Lu Feng shook his head and said, "Your home? I will never go back. Our marriage is over."

For a campus heartthrob to make such a firm decision, there had to be a story behind it.

Seeing Ding Yahong preparing to create a scene, I quickly said, "Since matters have come to this, why don't I have a proper talk with Lu Feng? Maybe your relationship won't escalate further."

Ding Yahong looked at me suspiciously, as if she couldn't believe what I said.

I understood what she was thinking, so I said, "I'm not here to side with Lu Feng against you. After all, you are my client."

Hearing that, Ding Yahong was even more perplexed. If we were rivals, what was there to talk about?

But at this point, there really was no good solution. Asking Lu Feng to go back with her was simply impossible.

After thinking for a moment, Ding Yahong said to me, "Alright, give me an answer by tomorrow. If I'm satisfied, I'll support your business at Xingchang wholeheartedly."

After saying this, she left, leaving just Lu Feng and me alone in the room—two grown men.

I smiled at Lu Feng, showing a gesture of goodwill.

Suddenly, Lu Feng asked me, "Are you really Lu Wan's husband?"

I nodded and said, "Are you Lu Wan's ex-boyfriend?"

It seemed that our connection came through my wife; otherwise, we wouldn't have known each other.

Lu Feng took a pack of Suyan cigarettes from his pocket and handed me one, saying, "Why are you coming here with my wife today?"

I thought for a moment and said, "Your wife even came to my house. How could I not come today?"

Lu Feng sneered, and I noticed a trace of helplessness in his smile. He continued, "If you have such thoughts about her, it's because you don't really know Lu Wan."

I had to admit that Lu Feng had spent much more time with Lu Wan than I had. Student-era Lu Wan was naive and romantic—easier to understand.

I stared at Lu Feng in silence, waiting for him to explain.

He said, "Believe it or not, Lu Wan is someone truly worth you spending your life protecting."

I was very surprised and couldn't understand why he said that.

Even more confusing, if they loved each other so much back then, why didn't they end up together?

I looked at Lu Feng, hoping for an answer.

He went on, "What I regret most is that I didn't protect Lu Wan properly, and she suffered the greatest harm because of it. I let her down."

He spoke so sincerely that even I was moved.

At that moment, Lu Feng's eyes reddened, showing that this memory still pained him deeply.

I asked, "If that's the case, why didn't you two end up together?"

I assumed that maybe his parents disapproved of Lu Wan and forced them apart.

Lu Feng replied, "Actually, the real reason we didn't stay together was because I said the wrong thing and hurt her feelings."

I found this hard to believe. In my understanding, if a couple truly loves each other, no matter the trials, they will end up together.

They had reached that stage; everything that could happen had happened. It couldn't come down to just one sentence breaking them apart.

I asked eagerly, "What exactly did you say?"

Lu Feng didn't answer. He just lay back on the bed, took a deep drag of his cigarette, and seemed burdened.

After a while, he said, "There's no point in talking about the past anymore."

Obviously, Lu Feng didn't want to tell me what that sentence was.

But I really wanted to know, so I pressed again, "What did you say to Lu Wan?"

He stared at me with surprise, as if I were a monster.

His gaze made me uncomfortable—I wasn't sure what was wrong with me.

Suddenly, Lu Feng asked, "Do you really love your wife?"

I immediately nodded.

He said, "If you love her, don't bring up the past—especially things that hurt her."

Suddenly, I felt that no matter how much I cared for my wife, it couldn't compare to Lu Feng's simple but meaningful words.

I really hadn't expected Lu Feng to be such a warm-hearted guy!

It seemed he had already given up on Lu Wan, and from our conversation, it was clear they barely had any contact.

At this moment, I suddenly felt deep regret. I shouldn't have suspected my wife without reason, nor should I have gone to a hotel with another woman, allowing my wife to catch me cheating.

I had to admit, my wife handled the whole ordeal rather rationally—no shouting, no fighting, just a calm departure.

If it had been Ding Yahong, things might have turned into a huge scene.

Now, I felt some sympathy for this man, perhaps because the way he cared about Lu Wan moved me.

Since I promised Ding Yahong I'd give her an answer tomorrow, I had to get all the facts straight.

Just then, my phone rang.

I guessed it was Lu Wan calling because I hadn't returned home.

I answered and said, "Baby, I've got something to deal with outside. I'll be late coming back."

I could sense displeasure in her voice as she asked, "What exactly is going on?"

I said, "I'm with a client. It'll take a while, but don't worry—I'll come home."

After hanging up, I felt very pleased because everything told me my wife was innocent.

Lu Feng's expression was a bit odd as he said, "Honestly, I've always envied the man who marries Lu Wan."

I thought to myself, You missed your chance back then. Now it's too late.

I asked him, "Looks like things between you and Ding Yahong are broken. What are your plans now?"

Lu Feng replied calmly, "What else can I do? Divorce, I guess."
