The night is cooling, but the energy around Vaela's estate remains electric.
Beneath the velvet canopy of Veruna's night sky, soft lantern light flickers across the marble veranda as guests bid their goodbyes. Vaela and Elsuana, flanked by a small army of staff, smile and wave as the last few diplomats, celebrities, and dignitaries head toward sleek cars and private shuttles.
"Another ambassador down," Elsuana whispers, checking a glowing list on her tablet.
"And not one wine spill on any of my carpets," Vaela sighs dramatically. "A miracle."
"You really worked the room tonight," Elsuana whispers, cheeks flushed with pride and a bit of wine. "That elven envoy was basically drooling. And the Martellan tech twins? I think they were ready to propose."
Vaela chuckles, ticking another name off her mental guest list. "It's a talent."
"I'd call it witchcraft," Elsuana mutters, nudging her.
"Same thing, really."
The final few limos depart, and Vaela exhales with satisfaction.
