Chapter 8 - Chapter8 Daniel

"Why are you late? Couldn't find her?"

Mia instinctively asked, because Daniel was one of her few good friends, just like Asher. She hoped he could find happiness.

"I found her, but she's already married."

The man's voice was light, as if he were talking about something insignificant, and his eyes only quietly stared at Mia.

Married?

Mia froze, her heartbeat suddenly growing frantic. For a moment, she even thought Daniel was talking about her.

No, it's impossible... She had grown up with Daniel, and since high school, he knew she liked Lambert. How could he possibly like her?

Thinking this, Mia finally relaxed and was about to break the awkward silence when the sound of a phone ringing interrupted.

"Sorry, I need to take this call."

Daniel stepped aside and spoke briefly on the phone, then returned with an apologetic look, gazing at Mia. "Something came up, I might have to leave. Can I get your number?"

He was still smiling like a breath of fresh air, as if the sadness and complexity in his eyes just now didn't belong to him.

Mia was more and more convinced that she was overthinking. She smiled and nodded.

They were good friends after all.

After sending Daniel off, Mia sat on a nearby bench for a while. It wasn't until her thin clothes made her feel cold that she turned back toward the hospital building.

However, when she returned to the ward, she unexpectedly encountered an uninvited guest.

*Smack!*

"Mia, you bitch!"

A sharp pain suddenly stung her cheek. Hannah stood across from her, looking furious, pointing at her nose and cursing.

"How did I not notice before? You're so scheming! You dared to set up a fake injury to manipulate me? Mia, do you think I'm easy to fool?"

Ignoring Mia's shocked and angry gaze, Hannah, like a shrew, threw her bag aside and lunged at her, shouting viciously, "You mute, I'm going to teach you a lesson today!"

"You try to touch her!"

A cold voice suddenly rang out. Hannah, who had already lunged, was pushed away in shock by Ethan with a terrified look on her face.

When Mia regained her senses, the man in the wheelchair was already standing in front of her like a protective umbrella.

"Sending someone to hurt the child in Mia's belly and now showing up at the hospital to attack her," Lambert's icy tone carried a chilling threat. "Who gave you the courage?"

Hannah barely steadied herself, her shoulders trembling slightly.

"It's... It's Mia who framed me! I didn't send anyone to hurt her!" Hannah forced herself to stay calm under the pressure from the man, continuing to argue, "Why are you accusing me?"

Lambert sneered, "How about we hand over the photos and testimonies to the police?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Lambert gestured to Ethan, who immediately took out his phone, ready to make the call to the police.

"Wait!"

Hannah's face turned pale as she hurriedly stopped them.

Although she didn't know why someone was identifying her in the testimony, those photos were irrefutable evidence! If the police got involved, she'd be in an even worse situation.

No, she needed to find solid proof first to make sure this bitch could never get back up.

Reluctantly, Hannah gritted her teeth and finally admitted, "Alright... I was wrong about Mia! Don't call the police!"

Saying this, she quickly picked up her bag from the side, her face extremely unpleasant as she stormed out.

"Just saying you were wrong and you think you can leave?"

Lambert's mocking words echoed as Ethan blocked Hannah's path, preventing her from getting to the door.

"What do you mean by that?"

Hannah's face turned pale as she stared at the man in the wheelchair, a sudden wave of panic rising within her.

Lambert's deep gaze landed on the mark on Mia's cheek, his voice unwavering, "Apologize."

Hannah hated Mia so much at that moment she could hardly contain herself, but under the pressure in Lambert's eyes, she reluctantly said, "Sorry!"

"Can I leave now?"

Lambert didn't even look up, his voice icy, "Get lost."

The sound of high heels clacking echoed sharply, as if they would pierce the ground.

Mia glanced at Hannah's disheveled figure, then looked back at Lambert, only to meet his eyes, which were filled with anger.

Ethan also stepped back, and with the door to the ward closing, the man's grim voice followed.

"Mia, you really are something!"

Before she could even feel moved by what had just happened, Mia was hit with a sarcastic taunt.

Mia bit her lip. She had expected this, already bracing herself for Lambert's continued teasing.

But the next moment, the man's words froze her in place.

"In order to protect the Wenshte Family's reputation, I didn't expose you. Now that the audience has left, do you still want to keep acting? Should I bring in those three extras to make your performance more complete?"

Extras…

He knew about them?!

Mia's face turned pale, and she hurriedly opened her mouth to explain but couldn't make a sound.

"Am I right?"

With that, the man grabbed Mia's wrist and pulled her closer to him.

The sudden action left Mia stunned, and she quickly supported herself on Lambert's wheelchair armrest, barely managing to steady herself. Looking up, she met the man's eyes, now mere inches away.

His chin was gripped tightly.

"Don't forget your current position!"

The sharp pain in her chin felt even worse than the slap from Hannah.

She instinctively shook her head, her eyes filling with tears, blurring her vision.

At that moment, Mia really hated being mute.

"Stop your tears, I have no interest in seeing them." Lambert disgustedly shook her off. Then, as if thinking of something, the anger in his eyes deepened.

Just then, the phone in Lambert's hand, which had been gripping Mia's wrist, suddenly rang.

The screen lit up, and a text message appeared, catching Lambert's narrowed gaze.
