Eve had rarely driven the car so fast after working as Damien's secretary and his wife. She had to show a persona of a demure person. But now that she was pissed, she did not care anymore.
The car drove so fast that many turned their head to see who was in the car. A man driving the sports car narrowed his eyes and followed her. But it only infuriated her further and accelerated the speed. When he thought that she had reached a narrow lane and finally slowed down, she sped off into that narrow line without any hesitation. There was no space for two cars in the small lane, so he had to slow down and stop his car eventually. The man looked at the speeding off car away with a smirk on his face.
Eve did not notice any of that. As she reached Damien's so-called house, she slammed the car door shut and rushed up the stairs. The mansion's grand facade felt more like a prison than a home. She twisted the key in the lock not bothering to switch on the lights as she entered. The maid had long gone for the night, Damien had dismissed most of the staff weeks ago when Eve no longer needed company.
She welcomed the silence. It was the only time she could hear her own thoughts.
Her heels were discarded at the entrance. Her steps were hurried and ungraceful, as she climbed the staircase and made her way to the master bedroom. Her fingers trembled as she pulled at the zipper of her dress, the fabric pooling at her feet before she walked into the en-suite bathroom.
The hot water gushed from the showerhead, scalding against her skin, but she welcomed it.
She stood under the stream, letting it wash over her as if it could erase everything. his cold voice, his twisted laughter, the feel of his weight over her.
But it didn't.
That moment when Damien straddled her, when his breath brushed her lips, when his hand dug into her wrist replayed in her mind like a curse. Her stomach twisted just thinking about it.
Her hands rose to scrub at her arms, her shoulders, her neck hard. Red streaks bloomed across her pale skin, but she didn't stop. She kept scrubbing with her eyes full of hatred until her skin felt raw and her chest heaved with quiet sobs she refused to let escape.
Her eyes beamed with hatred as she punched the wall. And now he wanted to use her again for a child!
"No," she whispered, her voice hollow. "Not again! This time, he would be the only one used."
She stood there for what felt like an hour before she finally turned off the water, grabbed a towel, and wrapped herself in it. Her wet hair clung to her face as she walked to the dresser, wiping the fogged mirror with the edge of her sleeve.
The woman staring back at her was not the same one who had married Damien three years ago. But she wasn't that girl anymore. The one who waited for him. He had killed her with his own hands. But now she has been reborn. She could only curse her luck! Even when the god showered her with a second chance, it was only after three years had been completed to their marriage.
If only she could ask for divorce and leave him! But that would be too simple. He would marry Diana again and live a happy line while she would be forgotten easily. No, in this life, she would not let him win even if she had to lose herself in the war.He had taken too much already. He would regret touching her tonight.
She sat on the edge of the bed, picked up her phone, and dialed a number she had saved under a false name. It rang twice and then a familiar, steady voice answered.
"Eve?"
"Araon," she said, her voice steady now. "I want you to refuse to sell the land."
There was a pause. "The theme park plot? But that's the final piece your husband needs. He has already prepared the investors and the blueprints."
"I know," she interrupted smoothly. "But he did not know I am the owner now. You will meet him in my stead and tell him that you would only sell if he would offer you ten times the current value. If Damien wants it, he will have to bleed for it."
Araon's tone shifted, hesitating. "boss! That might be too much. Ten times? It will draw attention. What if he investigated and came to know that it was you who was slowly targeting his business."
She stood and walked toward the window, her smirk reflected in the glass as the moonlight touched her damp skin.
"There is no way that it could come to me. The land was brought from your account three months ago when there was no plan for the theme park. And we do not know each other officially. At most, he would think you are greedy but he will pay," she said. "He always does when it comes to his pride. And he had so many expectations from that plan."
Aaron exhaled on the other end, then muttered, "ok, i will do as you say."
She ended the call without another word and tossed the phone onto the bed. She changed her clothes and slept on the bed.
It was only when she had gone to dreamland that a car returned to the villa. It left after dropping Damien inside. His eyes were still seething with rage as he returned to the master bedroom hasil.y but just as he pulled the knob, he noticed the door was locked. His eyes narrowed instantly.
He did not remember Evelyn had ever locked the door before. "What is this woman up to?"
