Chapter 27 - Chapter Twenty Seven

Lopen

I had expected the ambush against me during our wedding but what I actually hoped for was that Emmiel would be able to actually protect himself.

He wasn't hurt from the way I'd pushed him earlier, right?

I didn't even have time to think about it as two men stepped out from the crowd; launching a simultaneous attack towards me.

Their attacks were swift and calculated. "Hired assasins just for me" I beamed. "I'm glad they didn't send out small frys. That would have diminished my worth"

As I tried to fight off the two men, Beta davin had thrown himself into action instantly unseathing his sword and fighting by my side.

"I'm sorry I overlooked this, Alpha Lopen" Davin aplogozies, fighting by my side. "Forgive me"

I laughed hysterically."Forgive you? This is the most fun I've had in years, Davin"

I didn't want to leave the ceremony—not until half of the guests gathered here were dead—but Emmiel couldn't be here for much longer. Not while he was the target.

With Emmiel here, he was more of a liability, a weakness to me than a form of strength.

"Davin, take Emmiel to safety" I command. "I'll handle the situation here"

"No" Emmiel responds, rising up to his feet. "I won't run away. I'll stay here and fight beside you, Lopen"

The corners of my lips tilted up in a smile. "While I find your bravado cute, it isn't going to save you. You and I both know that you're still struggling over your first kil—"

I was cut short as Emmiel fired a gun shot towards me. Did this fucker just try to kill me?

It wasn't until I'd heard a loud thud collapse to the ground behind me did I realise that he'd shot a person trying to launch a surprise attack from behind.

With his grips tightened against the gun, Emmiel quirks up his brow. "You see, you need me here"

Fuck. That was hot. If we weren't being attacked right here, I would have loved to show it to him.

"Just don't get hurt" I warned. "I can't help you if things go south"

Emmiel nods in understanding. "You won't have to"

When I'd taken care of the assasin I'd been fighting with, I looked over to Davin's side to see that he was still struggling with the other.

An assasin so good that Davin struggled with him. This was the work of only one person.

"I guess Asai had dropped in to say "Hi" to Davin like he said he would" I conclude. "How thoughtful"

Turning to face the guests, I inquired. "Who is next?"

My senses picked up something approaching me with a speed I couldn't fanthom. Pinpointing where it was coming from, my gaze catches sight of the arrow as my hands catches it mid air.

Poison arrow. The shooter wasn't in this reception. Given the distance and speed the arrow took to reach me, the shooter was at the roof of the opposite building.

Give or take, there could be a possibility that one of them could even be targeting Emmiel right this instant.

But if he was their target, why risk shooting the arrow at me? Unless…

"Davin, take care of things down here"

"Consider it done, Alpha"

Whisking Emmiel up in my arms, I sprinted out of the wedding reception.

"Lopen, put me down" Emmiel countered stubbornly. "I told you I could fight, didn't I?"

I don't come to a stop until we're downstairs in the parking lot—alone. Placing Emmiel down to his feet, I questioned. "Who did you call this time?"

Emmiel furrowed his brow, confused. "What?"

I banged my fist against the wall in anger. "Don't lie to me and tell me who you called!!"

I shoved the arrow in his face. "A poisonous arrow was aimed at me. Fuck, I know I have a lot of enemies but, you're the one everyone should be out for—not me. So, tell me. Who did you call this time? I don't believe it's Asai"

"I didn't call anyone, Lopen" Emmiel admits. "I already swore my life to you, remember?"

He continues. "He was the one that called me and offered to bring me back home but I didn't agree to it"

My anger heightened. "Stop speaking in circles and give me a name, Emmiel. Who called you?"

He swallowed deep. "Kent did"

I stilled, unable to control the words that came out of my mouth "The fuck? Is that son-of-a-bitch here right now?"

"I saw him earlier at the start of the wedding but that's it"

I angrily grabbed Emmiel's face in my hand. "You should have told me the minute he called you or were you actually planning on running away again?"

Emmiel shakes his head, "I would never think of leaving you again, Lopen"

"Lies!" I snarled, pushing Emmiel away from me in disgust. "All that spews out of your mouth are nothing but filthy lies"

"I mean it, Lopen. What can I do to make you believe me?"

At this point, Emmiel was willing to do anything and I was willing to take advantage of that

"Earn my trust, then"

"How?"

"Call Kent to come and meet you down here and when he does, kill him"

Emmiel's eyes widened. "I.."

"You said you wanted to earn my trust, Emmiel" I remind him. "Or was that another lie?"

Emmiel shakes his head furiously. "I meant what I said. But, I don't think Kent is going to buy it and come here to meet me. I'd already made it clear to him that I didn't want to escape the Lopen's mansion and if he was still in the wedding reception, he must have seen when we left toget—"

"Then make Kent believe whatever shit you have to feed to him to get him to come here" I growled. "I'm giving you the chance to kill Kent mercifully by yourself, Emmiel because if I should do so myself; you won't even find his body parts. So make a decision now"
