"Hey, we are here to cash in on this quest," he pointed to the eight-skull page on the wall. "Right away, sir!" I looked at the dude next to me. "Hey, who are these people?" "Do you seriously not know?? They're the B-class team of adventurers known as Stailmate!" "And what is B-class?" "Man, you are living under a rock… B class is the 2nd highest class in adventuring there is. The system ranges from G down to A. These guys are all B with their leader, Lelio being an A!" "Ohh, I get it… Are you picking up on this, Fay?" She laughed a little. "I find it funny how the system is built from G to A, like a piano…"
"Lelio, I sense somebody with a moderate magic output." "How much compared to yours?" *sigh* "Fifteen percent at the very best." "Interesting… I haven't seen anybody surpassing even five percent in a bit!" Stelo scoffed. "Let's just take the 15 Tricill and go!" "Shut it, Stelo. That woman over there, she's the one!" I see... So that young lady is powerful enough for Lea to notice her presence? "I want to ask her something, we can leave after." "Hey, another energy signature spiked, it's not magic though… Wait, they're gone!" "Looks like I'll have to ask another time… Oh well, let's go, guys, we have more important stuff to deal with."
"What was that? That energy tag was beyond normal…" "What did you do, Ren?" "Nothing much, it was just suppression that I passed onto you." If I hadn't pushed the tag onto me instead of her constantly flowing magic, I would not have been able to suppress her magic flow. "I doubt they have bad intentions, I just don't want anything to do with them!" "Oh, oh, I see one. A quest that we can do!" "Really? Oh?" three-skull: Find an Areo root flower. And a reward of 2 Bicill. "Those are healing-based flowers, right?" "Yeah, they're supposed to be found in triple forest-type areas!" "Alright then, the Innkeeper said there is a bunch of double forest type land around the town, that would imply that there is triple in the farther back areas!" Fay marched forward with courage. "Onward!"
*brush* "gah! Stupid bugs…" "We should be here, the roots are mossier and much denser!" "Ok, now we need to find a spot with very high root density, those are where these flowers tend to gro- Woah! *grab* "How did you manage to trip Fay? I thought you were the careful one…" "Err! Stupid root!" *poke* The root set ablaze… "Hey, that might be too much!" *splassh* "Not anymore!" "Y'know, I'm curious… How does that wooden staff not burn when you use flame magic?" I have never asked such a simple question... "That's simple, magic is not composed of the same energy that natural elements are, magic is made of the magic energy from the caster themselves! Once I release the magic flame, the magic energy dissipates from it, making it no longer a magic flame but just a regular flame. Also, all new flame created after the original is pure natural flame!" Ah, I remember hearing a bit about that now. "Oh yeah, but that's how regular mages do it, right?" "Yeah, as an Arch-Mage, we specialize in making our elemental magic pure magical power, so it never dissipates, and so the magic flame can not be put out without magic water. This allows it to be several times stronger than normal and gets stronger based on how powerful the caster is!" "That's impressive! It's crazy how we never really got the time to properly introduce how our roles worked in Yondria… I'll let you in on some Holy Knight secrets later."
"HEY! REN! Over here!" "What?" "I think I found what we came for!" "Already? I was expecting to be here until sundown at best…" "Welp, don't mind if I do, m-" "Don't… Touch the flower yet, I don't think you can tell, but it's no ordinary flower, nor is this entire place we're currently standing in…" I had a suspicion from the start. "I see…" *flash* Three small balls of flame surrounded her. There's her serious side I was looking for! "Remember to look at dates on quest pages, which can be very important for life and death. The very quest we picked up, I have a copy of the page, it was made 17 months ago… That's an awful long time for a gathering quest, don't you think?" "Well, yeah, I have heard of something like that in the world of requests and commissions, there are sometimes long outstanding offers that nobody seems to have completed or done!" "Yeah, they're pretty much the same thing as for knight requests! If something has been due for a long time, it does not mean that nobody wants to complete it. Everybody who tried simply either died trying or barely got away! They're almost guaranteed traps!" "So it seems like these things make their way into adventurer quests too… Thanks, Ren!" "It's too early for thanks right now, we did come here to finish this quest after all! And by the way, what tipped me off was the sensory energy flowing from the roots of the flower, it's a deliberate trap made by something or someone more intelligent!" Intake! The energy around me started to insert itself into my body, take back! *Shine* Four shields appeared in a circle around me, "Fay, this is one of my favorites!" *stab* "Take Back!" The ground around me shone the same color as the shields. "Hehe, this is a holy barrier, it's weak, but that'll do for now!" "Woah! You really need to tell me more later!" "We'll see… First, you must pluck the flower. I can't hold this for too much longer!" "Yes!" *pull* There, above us, a massive energy signature appeared, "This isn't a normal creature! Once I lower the barrier, launch your fireballs, it'll be weak to those!" *Crash… buzz* The barrier was failing… "Fay, Now!" I let go of the barrier, and the thing fell towards us. "Heya!" *Blaze* "Gotcha!" "Don't get too excited yet, Fay! This thing won't burn from just fire!" Intake, normal breathing, take advantage of the stunned enemy! Long breath in… Take back! My sword shone gold. "This is one of our main abilities! Holy sword, it's enveloped in the energy I stole from my surroundings!" I'm nearly out of borrowed energy… Take back… My boots shone, Launch! And… STAB! My sword went straight through the enemy's rooty body (It's a ball of roots). "Watch out!" A single, small fireball zipped past me, hitting the exact part in the middle that I had stabbed. "Nice aim!" *ertza* the thing shriveled as the core burned to ashes, "Woah… Ren, that was so cool!" "Hehe, it's not that impressive, I can only use those holy abilities you just saw, and my energy capacity is relatively low right now… I'd say you were the most impressive one there, being able to condense such a big ball of flame into something not even the size of my palm!" She blushed a little. "You flatter me too much!" But more importantly! "You still have the flower?" "Yup! We should head back then! It's going to get dark soon and… I'm starving!" "I agree on both of those… Let's eat!"
"So… You did a trap quest and came back without a scratch?" "Well, no, we did get a bit dirty, but Fay has healing magic so…" "It can only heal up to big scratches though." "That aside, InnKeeper Lady, what's there to eat today?" "You don't have to call me Innkeeper lady… I am Julia Lesban, so call me Julia!" "Oh, uh, sure, Julia! I'll fully introduce myself, too, I guess. I am Lawren Coldtale, a new Holy Knight and wandering adventurer!" "I'm Fayrosa Coldtale, Ren's wife, a new Arch-Mage and wandering adventurer!" "I'm glad to make your acquaintance! And I will prepare something for you guys in a few!"
"Huagh! That was quite a long day!" "But it's over. What do you think we'll do tomorrow?" "Take a stroll around town? This place is big enough to get lost in!" "That sounds fun!" *flick* "Oh wow… It's dark… These rooms don't have moonlight to illuminate them, so without the lanterns or candles, it'll be really dark." *yawn* "Let's just go to bed, Ren, tomorrow is waiting!" Fay rolled over until she was pressed up against me, "Good night, Ren!" "You too."
