Chapter 54 - "54: Learning Takeover Magic"

Hearing the shameless chatter from the Simp Squad nearby, Su Mo's mouth twitched slightly.

He thought about it for a second… and decided to pretend he hadn't heard anything.

Unfortunately, the white-haired girl standing right in front of him had no such intention of letting it slide.

"Hm? Su Mo, are you going to study Letter Magic with Levy tomorrow?" Mirajane asked, her voice gentle but her gaze… sharp.

"I seem to recall you saying you wanted to specialize in Light Element Magic and wouldn't be learning anything else. What changed your mind all of a sudden?"

Could it be he's making a move on Levy?If that's the case… shouldn't I be the one to go first?Or maybe Su Mo just likes that quiet bookworm type?

That last thought made Mira feel a little uneasy.

"I've already reached the point where I can elementally transform with Light Magic," Su Mo replied casually, seemingly unfazed by Mira's probing look. "Advancing further is difficult, so I thought I'd pick up some other magic types to diversify my combat style."

"Learning other types of magic, huh…" Seeing that Su Mo was actually serious—and not just doing this because of Levy—Mirajane couldn't help but feel a little surprised.

"But haven't you always said: 'Magic should be about mastery, not quantity'? That trying to learn too many types ends up being counterproductive?"

In the world of Fairy Tail, it's rare to find mages who become stronger by simply accumulating more magic. Whether it's the Ten Wizard Saints, the Four Gods of Ishgar, or even the elite members of the Spriggan 12—they all achieved power by mastering just a few types of magic to the absolute limit.

Even the so-called Wizard King, despite the title, was really only a master of Copy Magic.

Because of that, Su Mo often told others—especially when training Mira and the others—that "it's better to master a few than dabble in many."

Who would've thought one day those words would come back to bite him?

"Generally speaking, yes—that's true," Su Mo admitted without hesitation.

But he didn't bother explaining much more than that.

"My current situation is a bit different. I can't rely on conventional wisdom. I need to study a variety of magic types to fill in the gaps."

Su Mo wasn't blind to the saying "jack of all trades, master of none." But he also wasn't planning to truly master every magic he touched.

If he tried to do that, no amount of time or energy would be enough.

What he wanted… was just to acquire the seed of each magic. Learn enough to use it. That was all.

As for deepening and perfecting them? That could be left to the other versions of himself in other worlds.

Many types of magic in this world might not be useful here—but could be invaluable in another world, to another Su Mo.

All he had to do was plant the seed. Let the other him nurture it to bloom. Once grown, they could share it. Exchange knowledge and skills.

With this approach, Su Mo could master a wide array of magic at a speed that would leave others in utter disbelief.

And more importantly—he was now a Campione, a God-Slayer. His learning speed had increased drastically. The power he could draw from each magic type was no longer the same as before.

So even if he learned dozens of magic types—it wouldn't take long.

As these thoughts passed through his mind, Su Mo turned to Mira.

"By the way—besides Levy's Letter Magic, I also want to learn your Take Over magic. Would you be willing to teach me sometime?"

"Eh? Take Over Magic?" Mira was a little stunned at first. But once she registered what he said, her face lit up with joy. "Of course! I'll teach you whatever you want to learn!"

She had absolutely no reason to hold anything back from Su Mo.

After all—

He was the one who took her in when she was a child, abandoned and rejected by her village, and brought her to Fairy Tail.

He was her first true companion—the childhood friend who had always been there for her, guided her, trained with her, and gone on missions together.

He was also the one who, years ago, saved Lisanna from the Beast—preventing her from losing her beloved little sister.

All of that… and more.

If he wanted her body, she'd give it to him. If he wanted both her and Lisanna, she wouldn't mind that either.

The only problem was—Su Mo had always been too focused on getting stronger. And with Erza constantly lurking nearby like a tigress on the prowl, Mira had never found the right moment to confess how she felt.

So all she could do was stay by his side, quietly waiting for the day something might finally blossom between them.

"Thanks, Mira." Su Mo nodded in gratitude.

Take Over Magic was a signature magic of the Fairy Tail world. It allowed the user to absorb the power of living beings, objects, even souls and deities—and then gain their respective abilities.

In some cases, it could even let the user transform into an entirely different being for combat.

Its potential was immense. And its usage varied widely from person to person.

Lisanna preferred taking over magical animal, using them to switch forms during battle.

Mirajane favored demonic forces, syncing with their power to unleash devastating attacks. Elfman liked powerful monsters—or simply taking over just their arms for brute strength.

Beyond that, Take Over Magic could also transform the body into inorganic matter like iron blocks for added versatility.

All in all, it was an extremely flexible and high-ceiling magic.
