Rayden Wolfe and Caleb Chen stood facing each other in silence, both of them wrapped in complicated emotions. After everything that had happened, it was hard to process the reality they now faced.
Caleb broke the silence with a soft sigh. "I always thought everything that's happening was just the butterfly effect of my own rebirth… but now I'm not so sure."
Rayden smiled faintly, then patted Caleb lightly on the shoulder. "Alright, brother, you get some rest. I'll see you tomorrow."
With that, he turned and left the hospital room, Rachel and Adam following close behind.
As they stepped into the corridor, Rachel turned to him and asked curiously, "Where are we heading now?"
Rayden replied casually, "To another hospital. I need to check on a good friend."
Rachel raised a brow in amusement. "Why are all your friends in hospitals?"
Rayden just smiled, not bothering to explain.
Half an hour later, their car pulled up in front of St. Grace Memorial Hospital.
As Rayden walked through the front doors, a poised woman in a sharp business suit turned toward him with a radiant smile. It was Sophie Quinn, the stunning and capable president of a successful company—and Rayden's longtime friend.
"You're here!" Sophie greeted warmly, then her eyes widened in surprise as she caught sight of Rachel. "Rachel, you're back!"
"You two know each other?" Rayden asked, pretending to be puzzled.
"Of course we do!" Rachel said, stepping past Rayden with a bright smile. "We're sisters—grew up together!"
Without hesitation, she rushed forward and embraced Sophie tightly. "I've missed you so much!"
"I missed you too!" Sophie beamed, hugging her back. "But... what brings you both here together?"
Rachel let go and stepped back, laughing. "I'm working for him now. I'm his secretary."
Rayden raised his eyebrows, intrigued by her tone.
Rachel turned to him and waved dismissively. "Mr. Wolfe, you don't need to be here right now. My bestie and I need to catch up. Girl talk only!"
Rayden chuckled. "Is there a secretary who kicks the boss out like this?"
"Why not?" she said cheerfully. "Aren't you getting kicked out right now? Out, out! No eavesdropping!"
She practically shoved Rayden out of the room and closed the door firmly behind him.
Rayden sighed with a wry smile and turned to Adam, who had been quietly observing everything. "Well, looks like we'll be waiting out here for a while."
"Yes, Mr. Wolfe," Adam responded with a stiff nod.
Though Adam's expression was unreadable, his mind was in chaos.
How is his peach blossom luck this strong?
Two absolute beauties—one president, one secretary—and both were close to Rayden Wolfe.
Meanwhile, he, the so-called God of War, had never encountered such fortune.
Inside the office, the two women had already fallen into deep conversation.
"Rachel, why on earth did you decide to become Rayden Wolfe's secretary?" Sophie asked, genuinely confused. "Didn't you say you hated him?"
Rachel rolled her eyes. "It's all because of you!"
"Because of me?"
"Of course!" Rachel huffed, annoyed. "Look at you! You spent only a few days with him and suddenly turned into some wide-eyed TV drama heroine. It's so out of character for you."
Sophie blinked. "I… I don't think I'm being naive."
Rachel shot her a look. "You! You're completely hopeless, so I had no choice. I decided to work for him, get close to him, and expose the real him before he drags you any deeper."
Sophie's eyes softened. "You're such a good friend to me."
"But I'm telling you, the man's a wolf in sheep's clothing," Rachel insisted. "He's got talent, sure. But that doesn't mean he's a good person."
"I think you're being too harsh," Sophie said gently. "He's incredibly talented, yes—but also kind and responsible. I truly believe he'll rise to greatness."
Rachel groaned. "God, you've already fallen in so deep. You're calling a grade-A scumbag a peerless gentleman now!"
No matter how much she tried to persuade Sophie, the woman remained unmoved. Rachel grew more and more exasperated.
She gritted her teeth. This damn Rayden Wolfe… you're tearing apart our sisterhood! I won't let you get away with it. I'll expose you if it's the last thing I do.
Sophie, however, remained calm and even smiled. "Actually, Rachel, I'm really glad you're working by his side."
Rachel frowned. "What's there to be glad about?"
"You're a capable person," Sophie said softly. "I'm happy you can assist him."
Then her cheeks turned a faint pink as she added, "Also… you can help me keep an eye on him. Don't let any suspicious women get too close. He's just too good. It's easy for him to attract… trouble."
Rachel nearly facepalmed. "Unbelievable! You're completely beyond saving!"
"Please?" Sophie gave her the puppy eyes.
Rachel groaned. "I'm not promising anything!"
But after a pause, she added, "At the very least, I'll warn you. If he crosses the line, you better drop him like a bad habit. Got it?"
"Thanks, sis!" Sophie said cheerfully. "You're the best. Love you!"
Sisters reunited after a long time—it was indeed a joyful occasion. The energy in the room lightened as they laughed and chatted more, their bond as strong as ever.
Later that evening, they dragged Rayden out for dinner.
Rachel, Sophie, and Rayden sat together in a lively seafood restaurant, sipping wine and enjoying each other's company.
Unfortunately, their poor bodyguard Adam wasn't so lucky.
He was left behind in the car, parked downstairs, chewing on a dry sandwich and sipping lukewarm bottled water.
Adam stared at the ceiling of the vehicle, sighing deeply. "…Just great."
As the clock neared 8 p.m., Sophie's phone rang. She glanced at the screen, then answered the call quickly.
After a brief conversation, she ended the call and looked apologetically at the others. "I'm so sorry. Something urgent came up at work. I need to head back."
Rachel nodded in understanding. "It's alright. Work comes first. Besides, we're all in the same city. We can always meet again."
Sophie smiled and turned to Rayden.
Rayden gave a sheepish smile. "I actually have something to do too. A good friend of mine just opened a new bar. He's invited me several times already, and I've been putting it off. If I don't show up tonight, it might strain our friendship."
Sophie looked thoughtful for a moment, then said with concern, "You should go. But don't drink too much, alright? Come home early."
"Of course. I'll behave," Rayden promised with a light chuckle.
As he got up to leave, he subtly threw Rachel a look: Keep an eye on her for me.
Rachel rolled her eyes and responded with a glance of her own: I know, I know.
With everything said and done, they all parted ways.
Rayden walked out into the night, his phone buzzing with messages from his friend—Martin Yang, the new bar owner, who was eagerly awaiting his arrival.
Meanwhile, Rachel lingered with Sophie for a few minutes, watching Rayden's figure disappear into the city lights.
Rachel exhaled deeply.
She really couldn't tell if this man was dangerous or just too charming for his own good.
Either way, she needed to stay alert.
Because guarding her best friend's heart might just be the hardest job she'd ever taken.
