Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: First Encounter with Pirates

A week had passed since Benimaru, Camille, Jayce, and Viktor first set sail aboard the Nautilus. Their voyage had taken them to a remote, uncharted island teeming with wild, feral beasts—an ideal training ground.

Benimaru stood at the edge of the deck, arms folded, as he addressed the three.

"This island is your training ground for the day. Hunt and survive on your own. The weights stay on," he said with a firm tone.

The trio, already clad in their weighted gear, nodded in silent understanding. Benimaru had amplified the gravity-infused weights they wore, pushing each of them to their physical limits. Jayce bore the heaviest burden, his total load reaching a staggering ten tons. Camille followed closely with nine tons, her powerful legs barely flinching under the pressure. Viktor, despite carrying only seven tons, remained the most resilient of the three. His endurance, bolstered by his Devil Fruit abilities, made him the one to watch.

Each had progressed in their way. Camille had begun to master the basics of Rankyaku, executing it with increasing efficiency—fifty kicks and counting. Jayce had taken a liking to Tekkai, the iron-body technique, and was slowly building a foundation. Viktor, for his part, continued to develop his raw physical prowess, learning to blend it with his innate abilities.

As soon as Benimaru gave the signal, the three bolted into the dense jungle, the air thick with tension and anticipation. Their competitive spirit was alive and well—each eager to prove their strength.

What they didn't know, however, was that they weren't the only ones on the island.

Hidden deep within the forest was a pirate crew, recently shipwrecked and regrouping. Benimaru, with his keen Observation Haki, had sensed them long before they arrived. He remained silent, choosing not to intervene. This was an opportunity for Camille, Jayce, and Viktor—a chance to fight opponents who wouldn't hold back. Pirates didn't follow the rules. They fought dirty. They survived at all costs.

As Camille, Jayce, and Viktor went deeper into the forest, they decided to split up to find wild beasts and then compete based on how many and how ferocious those beasts were. Camille headed toward the northwest of the forest, Viktor used his Devil Fruit abilities to surf toward the north, and Jayce moved in the northeast direction.

Camille's POV

As Camille continued her hunt, she found a large boar eating silently, something that made her smile. She then used the propulsion function of her prosthetics to approach the boar and immediately attacked it with all her strength. The boar, startled by the sudden assault, reacted quickly and jumped out of the way, displaying an agility not fitting its size. The beast stood over 5 meters tall and stretched over 10 meters in length. It was gigantic, but Camille didn't mind, as it was even smaller than the creatures living on Whale Island.

As Camille fought the boar, she didn't notice that people were gathering in the trees, silently observing her battle.

Despite the boar's natural armor-like hide, Camille managed to break through by using the Rankyaku technique, releasing an air blade that cut through the boar's neck in an instant. Believing it to be over, Camille let her guard down—until suddenly, she was hit by an explosion to the back, immediately injuring her and causing her to bleed all over.

"Hahaha! Thanks for doing the hard work hunting this boar for us," a pirate laughed as he stepped out of hiding. More men followed, emerging from the shadows until there were over 50 of them. All were armed and had their weapons aimed at Camille, who now stood upright despite her bleeding wounds. Thanks to the enhancement serums Benimaru had injected into her, her injuries were already closing. Her eyes, however, were burning with fury.

"You'll pay with your lives for that," Camille said coldly, her voice laced with rage. The pirates only laughed harder, confident in their numbers and weaponry. They seemed to have forgotten that this woman had just taken down a beast they couldn't handle even together.

Camille, already furious, became even more enraged at being mocked. Without another word, she launched herself at the pirates—and they immediately retaliated. Camille relied heavily on the martial arts techniques Benimaru had taught them, focusing primarily on her devastating leg-based attacks.

Camille delivered an axe kick to the nearest enemy, her prosthetic leg enhanced with powerful thrusters. The kick landed cleanly on the pirate's shoulder, shattering bone and sending him crashing into the ground with a sickening thud. Without pausing, she spun into a sweeping roundhouse, knocking down two more. The propulsion systems in her legs gave her movements unnatural speed and force.

Despite being outnumbered, Camille moved like a storm through the crowd. Bullets whizzed past, swords slashed the air, but she weaved through them, landing brutal counterattacks with every turn. Each time her leg struck, bones shattered and weapons flew from hands. She didn't flinch. She didn't hesitate.

"Don't let her get close!" a pirate shouted, trying to rally the others.

Camille crouched low, kicked the ground, and launched herself forward. A burst of flame erupted from her blasters, sending her sailing above the trees. From mid-air, she twisted her body and unleashed a Rankyaku—a slicing air blade that tore through trees and pirates alike, sending debris flying in every direction.

The pirates, once so confident in their numbers, now scattered like frightened animals. Their blades trembled. Some turned to run. Others screamed.

"She's a damn demon!" one of them cried out, only to be met with Camille's fist crashing into his face.

Minutes passed. Screams echoed. Then silence.

Camille stood in the middle of the ruined clearing, surrounded by fallen pirates and the corpse of the massive boar. Her body was battered, her clothes torn, and her breathing heavy, but she remained standing. Blood soaked her skin and prosthetics, but her eyes were sharper than ever.

She took a deep breath, letting her anger settle. Her eyes scanned the carnage before her, then moved back to the boar.

"Still counts as mine," she muttered.

With a grunt, she grabbed one of the pirates' swords, cut a strip from his coat, and used it to tie up her bleeding arm. Then she hoisted the massive boar with surprising ease, thanks to the serum-enhanced strength and prosthetics, and began the long walk back.

The sun filtered through the treetops as Camille made her way through the forest, leaving behind the wreckage of the ambush. She didn't look back.

She didn't need to. They wouldn't be getting up.
