Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 – The Boy in the Cloak

The silence stretched.

The moonlight filtered through the trees, silvering the mist that coiled at their feet. Ji-hyeon narrowed his eyes, his breath still unsteady from running—but now, it was the stranger before him who took center stage.

The boy didn't move. He just stood there, like a statue chiseled from confidence. His cloak was black, with a subtle emblem sewn in silver at the collar—an unfamiliar crest that shimmered faintly with magic.

Ji-hyeon took a cautious step back.

"...Who are you?" he asked, voice steady despite the tension in his chest.

The boy tilted his head slightly, eyes glinting with a sharp amusement.

"You can call me Rael," he said. "And I've been looking for you."

---

Ji-hyeon's guard rose immediately.

"Why?"

Rael smirked. "Because your existence is a problem."

His answer was calm—too calm—and yet, he made no move to attack. Ji-hyeon's instincts screamed caution. Not fear. But wariness.

He remembered the altar's glow. The voice that whispered: You have returned.

He wasn't normal. He never had been.

And maybe… neither was this boy.

---

Rael slowly approached, his footsteps soft over the grass.

"There are many who are curious about you. But most? Most are afraid," he said. "You're not supposed to exist—not like this. Not in this era."

Ji-hyeon stiffened. "What do you mean this era?"

Rael's eyes sharpened. "You really don't know, do you?"

A pause.

Then Rael reached into his cloak, slowly—and pulled out a small, metal-bound book. He tossed it gently to Ji-hyeon, who caught it out of reflex.

Its cover was marked with the same silver symbols from the altar.

Ji-hyeon's breath caught in his throat.

"I suggest you start reading," Rael said. "Before they find you first."

And without another word, Rael turned and disappeared into the mist—vanishing like a dream.

---

Ji-hyeon stood alone again, holding the strange book, heart pounding. He glanced at the first page.

Blank.

But as his fingers touched the edges, ink began to appear—shifting and forming as though responding to him.

The title read:

> The Demon King's Legacy – Volume I

His hands trembled slightly.

The past… was reaching for him.
