Chapter 16 - Not Standing Firm

Watching Soren retreat, Amelia did not stop her. Just as Soren knew she couldn't do anything to Amelia, Amelia also knew she couldn't stop Soren.

Turning her gaze back, Amelia said to Carlotta, "Miss White, you've done very well. Leave the rest to me."

Carlotta looked at Amelia and nodded seriously.

Although they were both noble ladies, her intuition told her that Amelia and Soren were different.

Next, Amelia went to Carlotta's dormitory, where she saw a group of people still groaning on the ground. As for Mary, she was nowhere to be seen.

This made Amelia glance at Carlotta in surprise. Although Carlotta was a second-tier apprentice, it was still quite remarkable for her to face over a dozen first-tier apprentices and emerge unscathed.

"Will there be any consequences for injuring them?" Carlotta couldn't help but ask upon seeing the injured.

Amelia smiled and said, "You were acting in self-defense, so there won't be any issues. The blame for these injuries will fall on Soren."

She then entered Carlotta's room and took the magic book that Soren had sent.

After that, Amelia went to contact the academy's instructors.

There were quite a few instructors at the academy, and with Amelia's intervention, many of them came to the student dormitory.

Among them were a few instructors Carlotta knew, as well as some she hadn't met before, likely those who taught upperclassmen.

The instructors had already learned about the situation from Amelia. Upon arriving at the dormitory, they first took away the group of injured students.

Estelle, as Carlotta's instructor, took the initiative to ask Carlotta for further details. Naturally, Carlotta repeated what she had told Amelia to Estelle.

"You are also a victim in this matter, so don't worry about anything. Caerwyn Academy is not a place where people can cause trouble at will, not even nobles," Estelle confidently reassured.

Carlotta nodded, hoping that Caerwyn Academy could truly stand firm.

The subsequent matters had nothing to do with Carlotta. Amelia took full responsibility, and Carlotta returned to her dormitory.

She took out the book on Elven Knight Manual Path from under her pillow. Amelia had only taken the magic book Soren had sent, without noticing this one.

Carlotta hadn't read the later contents of this book before. Now, she couldn't help but flip to the back, where she found a photo tucked inside.

It was a picture of two silver-haired sisters... or rather, mother and daughter. One of them was Amelia, and the other was likely Amelia's deceased mother.

In the photo, Amelia looked much younger than she did now, her smile full of sunshine. Amelia's mother, who bore a striking resemblance to the present Amelia, looked more mature, gazing at her daughter with affection.

"It's said that most people who practice the memory magic path have someone in their memories they can't let go of, wanting that person to reappear by their side at any time... Miss Fenwick, is that the case for you too?" Carlotta murmured softly.

Perhaps it was time to return this book. After all, without Amelia, it was hard to imagine what would have happened to her tonight. She felt too embarrassed to keep holding onto something that belonged to someone else.

But before that, she should memorize the contents of the Elven Knight Manual Path.

Carlotta knew she wouldn't be able to sleep tonight, so she took out paper and pen, sat at her desk, and began writing furiously.

...

When the new day dawned, the public announcement from Caerwyn Academy stunned many students who had just woken up.

Soren Carlisle, this noble lady, had been expelled. For the students, this was undoubtedly big news.

As for the reason for Soren's expulsion... Caerwyn Academy did not specify, only stating that Soren had seriously violated the rules.

After leaving her dormitory with dark circles under her eyes, Carlotta overheard other students discussing the matter and learned about the academy's announcement. Unlike the others' shock, she felt anger.

"Wasn't it promised that they would stand firm? They didn't even dare to tell the truth?" Carlotta was a bit angry.

At this moment, a pleasant voice came from behind her, "The Carlisle family exerted some pressure and offered sufficient compensation. They only asked the academy to conceal the truth about Soren's expulsion to avoid damaging her reputation. Given the substantial compensation, the academy agreed."

Carlotta turned around to see Amelia speaking.

It was a bit of a coincidence; she was just about to go find Amelia.

Seeing Carlotta, Amelia couldn't help but laugh: "Miss White, did you not sleep at all last night? You have dark circles."

Carlotta didn't answer that question but instead frowned and asked, "How will the academy explain this to everyone else? What about Avery and the others?"

Amelia said, "Miss Clarke and the others have been healed. The effects of that master-servant magic are not irreversible, and Soren hadn't mastered it deeply. However, Miss Clarke and the others have forgotten what happened last night. In other words, apart from the instructors, only the two of us among the students know about this."

"Did Mary get expelled too?" Carlotta thought of this person.

"Naturally, Mary was with Soren," Amelia said with a smile. "I know you're a bit indignant, Miss White, but when facing the Carlisle family, not losing is a win. Moreover, the compensation from the Carlisle family will also include your share. An instructor should come to find you soon."

Carlotta perked up, not expecting there to be compensation for her.

She asked what the compensation would be, but Amelia shook her head, saying only the instructors knew that.

Although she couldn't find out the compensation immediately, Carlotta wasn't in a hurry. What was hers wouldn't run away. She touched a book in her pocket; it was time to return it to Amelia.
