[Saruyama Kenichi: What the… Hunting Dogs?]
[Kasumi Miwa: This is unexpected…]
[Shiji Iwakura: Hunting Dogs? So like, we have to fight a whole bunch of wolves or something?]
Look at all the messages pop up at the quest, my heart slowly sinking to disbelief.
It's not like I'm not expecting a quest from the system, considering all motives of these similar cases always come up with some missions or such for the main protagonists to get stronger…
But this time it is probably out of line. This mission is basically to tell us to off ourselves.
Compare this quest with other actions like seppuku, they are not really that far fetched in all honesty…
Like, all the members in the chat are basically normal humans, except Miwa and possibly Shinji, though i pretty doubt that, and how did the damn god expect us to do anything?!
Hunting Dogs in Bungo Stray Dogs… I can only think of one case.
The most elite police force in the whole of the verse, capable of folding a tank with ease.
Every one of them have been modified in physique, combined with their teamwork, abilities and experiences in combat, make them such formidable foes that can't be ignored by any means.
They are those who have struck the Armed Detective Agency after they got wanted by some "reality-alternated" event.
In a single arc, they have taken all 3 of the Agency's most valuable assets in prison, along with spitting them apart for quite some time.
To be honest, if Ranpo didn't show up in time, which I still feel is pretty "plot convenience", the Agency won't even have a chance to countertack…
And this damn system wanted us to fight them, and also have to win at that…
[Saruyama Kenichi: … Shit.]
On the other hand, Saruyama started to despair after the memory of the arc suddenly hit him like a truck, along with doubts that started squirming inside him.
He'd rather peeking Lala naked body and go through with it without getting caught then have to those "monsters" in human form.
Every single one of them can kill the whole group chat in under a minute, while not even using any of their strength at all.
Luckily, he can just choose not to accept the quest. The quest doesn't specify a fixed number of participants, and it listed no penalty if you don't accept the quest.
[Kasumi Miwa: First, regarding the quest, we need to know what the "Hunting Dogs" is first.]
Miwa then proposed information for everyone to get the hang of it, as only Jouno and Saruyama know the full extent of the mission.
[Shinji Iwakura: Yeah, what's the quest's even about? Like, we have to fight a bunch of wild dogs or what?]
[Shinji Iwakura: I wish it was just about punching a bunch of dogs…]
[Saruyama Kenichi: In short, the quest wanted us to fight a supernatural army, one that can easily invade the whole of the US in under a week with no efforts.]
Hearing Saruyama's message, everyone started to let it sink in.
[Kasumi Miwa: So… how do you think our chances of us pulling this off?]
[Saruyama Kenichi: The same as you killed Kenjaku with one swing.]
…
Yep, this is impossible, Miwa thought at the other side.
She looked at the seal in her hand, let out a sigh.
After yesterday, with Jouno spoiler, she arrived at the Sugisawa Municipal High School to have a look, and as he said, she found the cursed finger residing in the thermometer shed, now emitting enormous curse energy.
(Can't believe it, it's really here… What the guy says is true?!)
(I wonder… did they know more than this?)
With many questions lingering in her mind, she took it back to the Kyoto High, where she then got rewarded handsomely for finding another finger of Sukuna.
And now, right at when she finished her daily practice, the quest suddenly hit her.
Although the mission seems like a joke, the fact she did find the finger has proven that all of this is real… including the fact that she's just a deadweight later.
… Maybe she should take the mission.
It's not that she didn't realise it before… out of everyone in this school, she's by far the weakest of the bunch.
She didn't feel down by this revelation all this time, but Saru and Jouno words yesterday did leave a remark on her.
If this is the chance, why not take it?
But first, although she's eager to take the mission right now, she still needs information. She can't really risk being oneshot by the mission target, obviously.
But Saru word just now has once more sunken her spirit…
[Jouno Tsukami: … Actually, it's not that bad though.]
[Saruyama Kenichi: ?]
[Jouno Tsukami: If we really consider every Hunting Dog's abilities, they are not that hard to beat.]
This is the truth.
Although he did feel down quite a lot after the initial perception, it's not that he really gave up the quest altogether.
Sure, the division is quite scary, and he couldn't do anything to hurt them by any means… if he just barged in like an idiot.
If he, theoretically, could ally with the Agency and the Port Mafia, the organization that worked both as the antagonist and allies of the Yokohama city, and utilize their power to confront the Hunting Dogs, things will be easier.
Also, even if that doesn't work, he still has another theory…
[Jouno Tsukami: I need all of you to check the quest again, and tell me the goal.]
Everyone then reads the quest again with Jouno words, but all of them are still confused. They didn't read it wrong, or have any wording mistakes…
[Saruyama Kenichi: I believe I didn't read anything wrong. As far as I can see, the quest clearly wanted us to seppuku ourselves.]
Saruyama expresses his confusion, and a bit of anger, re-checking the whole quest again. He himself did know about the Hunting Dogs, and he won't take the chance against those that sliced a car in half with ease.
[Jouno Tsukami: Ah yes, but it didn't specify us to beat in hand-to-hand combat.]
At Jouno's explanation, everyone started to see what he meant as they looked at the questline again.
It's true that the quest didn't specify which battle they have to conduct against the Hunting Dogs, which theoretically means they can just beat them to beat them at anything.
But, even though that could be the case, what can they do? After all, the Hunting Dog is an excellent division created by the government itself, with the sole purpose to ease the terror with their absolute violence.
I mean, they're not wrong. But for me, this could be quite an experience.
[Jouno Tsukami: lf you guys don't mind… I'll take the quest.]
[Saruyama Kenichi: WHAT?! Are you nuts?! You wanted to die that much??!!]
I typed my final decision on the message, and everyone started to express their surprise on his decision… and when I said everyone, I meant only Saruyama.
No surprise, considering he is the only one beside me to know the Bungo Stray Dogs manga plot.
[Jouno Tsukami: No worries, I already have a plan to take one down. Just wait for me to show off the new Ability back howe]
[Saruyama Kenichi: … You're crazy…]
… He's not wrong at that though, but it's better to try and fail than sitting here and doing nothing.
With that, I finally reached home. I then threw the groceries away and locked the door, then walked up to my room to prepare everything.
Today could be my last day though, so I gotta dress up real good first.
… I honestly don't need to take the quest that seriously though, as it contains no penalty of forcing us to take it or anything.
But still, for the quest to suddenly jump out like this, I feel like this is a sign.
It could be just me being doubtful, but I don't have the guts to wait it out.
After carefully dressing up, I reluctantly accepted the quest.
Welp, there's no turning back from this… It's either I finish it, or the world itself gets the better of me…
And then, the scenery around started to change…
