Chapter 30 - Chapter 30 - A New Idea for the Deal

Josh had no knowledge of, nor any interest in, the less-than-pleasant situation of those "good guys" who took the blame for him.

As long as he was living well, that was all that mattered.

He slept in every day until broad daylight, and in his free time, he'd go horseback riding on a countryside farm with Margot, soak up the sun, play golf or bowl.

Or perhaps sail on Lake Michigan, watch plays at the theater, or catch a movie at the cinema.

His leisure life was exceedingly rich.

The two of them, always seen together, looked exactly like a pair of newlyweds on their honeymoon.

Of course, while spending so much time with Margot, Josh hadn't forgotten his business — his interdimensional smuggling trade with Daenerys.

Although most of his time was spent clinging to Margot, he still managed to find moments of free time.

So occasionally, he'd run around the major gun shops, bookstores, and black markets in Chicago to purchase the items Daenerys needed.

Every evening at 7 p.m., whether or not there was a transaction, he would set aside at least half an hour to lock himself in his study and connect with Daenerys.

As for Josh's peculiar habit of locking himself in the study for half an hour each day, Margot, though a little curious, never questioned it.

After all, she wasn't some naïve young girl anymore; she well understood the importance of giving one's partner personal space.

What's more, Josh still maintained many of the good lifestyle habits of an urban youth from his previous life — he didn't smoke, didn't drink excessively, didn't gamble, didn't visit brothels (hadn't had the chance).

To Margot, a man with such good habits was nothing less than a rare treasure — a true gem.

It was only when things involved her personally that he got a little overbearing... but in Margot's eyes, that was totally a good thing.

So under such circumstances, why fuss over such a trivial, insignificant little issue?

"Daenerys, I brought you something new." Once again, at 7 p.m., Josh looked at the screen where Daenerys, dressed in a luxurious court gown, appeared.

That court gown was a gift from Josh — the same style as Queen Elizabeth's — and had been custom-made at great expense.

Yes, that's right: Queen Elizabeth, not the Queen (as in the current one).

After all, in 1943, the British monarch was still the stuttering King George VI.

And the future famously long-lived queen was, at this time, just an 18-year-old girl.

Due to limitations in productivity and Daenerys' current environment, the clothes she wore in her world were considered high-end, but when placed in Earth's context — let alone 20th-century America — even compared with the attire of 15th- and 16th-century European nobility, they looked rather plain.

Of course, if you go back further to pre-Renaissance Europe, court fashion there didn't look much better than what they had in Westeros.

Daenerys was very fond of the gown.

After all, what woman doesn't love beautiful things?

And as a queen, she certainly needed adornments to highlight her status in public appearances.

"What is it?" Daenerys asked curiously.

"This!" With Josh's operation, Daenerys received a trade notification.

After confirming the trade, she looked — it was a collection of jewelry and tableware.

Her gaze quickly became fixated.

Because, like the court gown Josh had previously gifted her —

These jewels and utensils were exquisitely crafted.

Undoubtedly, Daenerys was not someone unfamiliar with luxury.

In terms of wealth, Josh couldn't compare to her — not even a little.

So purely in terms of the number, size, and quality of gemstones, Josh couldn't possibly offer her a surprise.

Even the average royal, noble, or tycoon on Earth might not match up to Daenerys but just because the raw materials weren't superior didn't mean the craftsmanship couldn't be.

Anyone who's watched Game of Thrones and paid even a little attention would've noticed the crude execution of the seemingly stylized jewelry in that world.

While handmade craftsmanship can certainly give artisanal pieces a kind of soul that machine products lack — Even the best craftsmanship requires technical support.

In ancient times, gem-cutting was a highly intricate and labor-intensive job.

Especially diamonds — due to their extreme hardness, they were difficult to cut.

And because hard also means brittle, one wrong move and a perfectly good diamond could be shattered.

Aside from that, certain materials that are now common and cheap were extremely rare and valuable in ancient times.

For example: aluminum…

Extracting aluminum requires electrolysis, so in a world like Westeros, which is still in a semi-slavery, semi-feudal state, its rarity is imaginable.

So what Josh gifted Daenerys was a set of exquisitely made aluminum jewelry embedded with tiny diamonds.

The tableware was also all made of aluminum.

These things, which were essentially worthless in early 20th-century America, could become the prized possessions of any royal or noble in Daenerys' world.

"Such exquisite jewelry… Huh? What's this material? I thought it was silver. So light!" At first, Daenerys had assumed these were simply finely crafted silver or platinum (naturally occurring), but once she held them, she realized they were made of a metal even lighter and softer than silver — something she had never seen before.

"This is aluminum. I don't mind telling you — it's a metal with an extremely high abundance in our world. Theoretically, it's the same in your world, but the extraction process is quite special. With the level of technology in your world, it's basically impossible to produce — maybe your dragons' fire could do it, but the yield…"

Josh raised his brow and didn't finish the sentence but Daenerys had already understood.

"Interesting. I think I get your point." Daenerys' face lit up with a smile. "I must say, this is indeed a very intriguing idea, Josh. Honestly — aside from gold, is there nothing else you want? Really now, Josh, at this rate, my treasury is going to be drained by you."

Since Josh clearly stated that this stuff was worthless in his world, that meant Daenerys could acquire it at a low price in exchange for ordinary gold, platinum, or other valuables.

Then resell it to nobles and the wealthy at prices far exceeding even gold or platinum — and make a huge fortune.

Another win-win trade.

"Haha, Your Majesty jokes. With all the things I've given you, it won't be easy to empty your treasury. But speaking of which, I really do have some new ideas about our deal." Josh smiled as he spoke.

"Let's hear it," Daenerys said.

"Raw materials!" Josh replied.
