Chapter 11 - blue butterflies

That afternoon, after Jing Shao gave them a little talk, Mei Lin and Mei An arrived at their house to eat. Mei An, on the one hand, was very, very excited, while Mei Lin seemed to be deep in thought. The kitchen had a slight smell.

Mei Hua, the children's mother, was serving dinner at a round table that could fit approximately 4 people. There was steamed white rice, well cooked and soft. A large bowl of braised pork with potatoes, slowly cooked with soy sauce, ginger, and star anise. It had a pleasant smell that permeated the entire house.

Mei An was hungry and upon smelling this pleasant aroma, he ran to the table to tell his mother what Jing Shao had told him. He was very excited. "Mom, the Taoist sir said to teach us how to make cultivators and we will be able to kill demons and save the common people," Mei An said as she refilled her plate with pork stew. "Mrs. Mei was serving them green tea and upon hearing this, her face had a complicated expression."

-What's wrong?- Mei Lin said, a little surprised by her reaction. After pouring her own cup of tea, her fingers rubbed the rim of the glass.

Although Mrs. Mei wasn't young, she had white skin, not as white as her children's, since it was lightly kissed by the sun. Her long hair passed her waist. Her hair was a blue-black, and her peach eyes were large and black. It was really nice to look at.

"Your father..." Mei Lin's gaze instantly darkened. "Your father was a great cultivator when he was young. He and I met in a village near the Crimson Lotus Sect in the Tianmeng Kingdom many years ago. I... had no talent for cultivation, but he was a senior disciple. I fell in love with him at first sight."

He and I met in a village near the Crimson Lotus Sect in the Tianmeng Kingdom many years ago. I... had no talent for cultivation, but he was a senior disciple. I fell in love with him at first sight."

Upon touching the box, she gave a small smile and approached the table.

"I missed him a lot, and he missed me too, so he decided to give me a gift." Mrs. Mei slowly opened the box. There was a silver bracelet lightly painted with blue and gold threads and a small blue butterfly in the middle. She took it out, took Mei Lin's hand, and put the bracelet on it.

"Your father has one like it. He gave me this bracelet. He told me that if one day either of us is missing, we can remember each other this way. I'll give you this bracelet, Mei Lin. When you love someone, but for some reason you can't see each other, give it to them so they can remember you. This person has to be your special someone. You have to love them very much, just like I love your father."

Mei Lin didn't say anything. She stared at the bracelet for a while. Her eyelashes fluttered.

"You're still young. You'll find your loved one, and that person will choose you too if their love is deep."

"It's not fair, Mom," Mei An said, with food in her mouth. "I also want to give one like that to my future wife." She pouted slightly. "I will marry a very beautiful woman, and I will protect her. I won't leave her alone."

-Haha okay, okay, I'll ask you another day- said Mrs. Mei with a smile, Mei Lin was still immersed in her thoughts feeling that this was something very stupid, love is a curse, it's like waiting for the moment when they stab you without even wanting to defend yourself, her father abandoned her and her mother but she keeps waiting for him like a fool.

After dinner, Mei Lin went to take a bath and put on some bedclothes, thinking about what her mother had told her.

She knew her mother was still waiting for him. Sometimes he would secretly look through the peephole in the door and see her crying. The candle creaked.

"What a cruel man," she whispered to herself and slept soundly.

That night she had a rather strange dream.

"Don't be afraid," a large, strong hand reached out to take Mei Lin's small hand. "Don't be afraid, Dad is here." In the dream, little Mei Lin also saw the look of a handsome man. He had deep blue eyes, eyes as sharp as a cat's. He had very long hair, a straight nose with a slight upward curve, and very marked black eyebrows.

She felt that man getting further and further away.

"Wait," Mei Lin said, trying to reach him. "Don't leave me... Wait!"

Then she woke up, her hands outstretched, tears streaming down her cheeks. She couldn't stop.

"I miss you, don't leave me." Her fingertips touched each other. She had a slight tremor. "Love is a very serious illness, waiting to stab you without wanting to defend yourself," she thought to herself as she wiped away her tears.
