Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – When Boundaries Break

Dawn had just finished packing her backpack for the journey, her excitement growing by the minute. Standing in front of her was a fair-skinned woman with blue eyes and short hair adorned with a red clip. She wore a white long-sleeved shirt, a peach-and-red apron with pockets, and blue capri pants. Approaching Dawn, she gently ran her hand across the girl's cheek, as if caressing the petals of a delicate flower.

This beautiful woman was Johanna, Dawn's mother and greatest inspiration. Once a renowned Pokémon Coordinator in her youth, she now dedicated every ounce of her time to her precious daughter as a single mother.

"Did you organize everything?" she asked kindly, her hand still resting on Dawn's cheek.

"Yes, Mommy!" Dawn replied energetically as always.

Johanna nodded and removed her hand, then crouched down and scooped up the small dragon who had been munching on Pokécubes nearby, his cheeks puffed like an Emolga's.

"You too, Cyantherion!" she cooed at the little serpentine dragon who floated around her, rubbing his cheeks against hers. "Aah, he's so cute! If I had him when I faced Lila, I would've won for sure!" she pouted, pulling Cyantherion into her arms and hugging him tightly against her ample chest.

Watching her new Pokémon interacting with her mother, a warm smile spread across Dawn's lips. Picking up a camera, she captured the beautiful family moment.

Cyantherion was the official name Professor Rowan had given to Ryoung. To understand how that happened, we'll need to rewind a few hours...

Seven hours earlier...

After a deeper study, Professor Rowan discovered that Ryoung, being a Dragon and Fairy-type, possessed the strengths of both types. As for weaknesses? Strangely, he was also vulnerable to both types — but unlike regular Pokémon, his damage intake from opposing types was only 20% more, not the usual 50%.

Another great discovery was a new crystal from Ryoung's dimension: Lumencryta. This crystal had a glassy, slightly flexible texture, and its color changed depending on the energy it interacted with. Its most fascinating trait was its soft, heart-like pulsating glow. The mysterious crystal had been found at the spot where Dawn and Ryoung first met. After collecting five shards, Ryoung underwent a minor evolution.

His body now had a more serpentine and aerodynamic shape, with iridescent crystals along his spine. His scales shimmered in hues of sky blue, silver, and galactic violet. Two curled horns resembling antlers now adorned his head, glowing with flickering energy. His large eyes, slit pupils and rotating irises glowed when channeling power. But the most intimidating feature were his four tiny wings made of pure crystallized energy — they didn't allow him to fly, but controlled gravity, letting him float through the air effortlessly.

After witnessing this small evolution, the professor decided to name him "Cyantherion." "Cyan" for his new shade, and "therion" from Greek, meaning "beast." Ryoung was thrilled — his name now truly sounded worthy of a mythical creature. But his greatest curiosity was the Lumencryta. "Could there be more of this miraculous crystal in my dimension?" he wondered.

"If so, wouldn't I become invincible super fast?" But the professor crushed his hopes before they could take root. The mysterious crystal wasn't naturally occurring — it seemed to be born from micro spatial ruptures caused by interdimensional friction when portals were opened. Even then, one or two shards appearing was exceedingly rare.

After a long discussion, the professor updated Ryoung's Pokédex entry and said farewell to both him and Dawn.

Back to the present...

Escaping from death-by-suffocation, Cyantherion floated toward his trainer and hid behind her. Glancing sideways at the beautiful woman who now giggled "fufufu~" at his reaction, he swore in his heart: "One day, when I become a full-grown man, I'll get my revenge!!"

After a warm farewell, Dawn and Cyantherion set off toward their first destination: Oreburgh City.

"Let's go, Cyan! We can't be late!" she shouted as she dashed down the narrow dirt road. Watching his trainer run ahead, a fleeting thought crossed Cyantherion's mind: "I hope these peaceful days last forever."

Elsewhere...

Location: Team Vortex Underground Base – Dimensional Control Room – 300 meters below the surface

The room was cast in cold shades of purple and metallic gray. Holographic screens flickered like digital auroras, emitting high-pitched hums that blended into a heavy silence. At the center stood a woman with hair as silver as moonlit glass, eyes glowing with amber fire.

She was motionless, arms folded over a sleek black and violet coat adorned with circuit-like patterns that pulsed with violet light. On her left shoulder shimmered a spiraled symbol — a stylized black hole: the insignia of Team Vortex.

"...A dual space rupture... at the same dimensional coordinate..." she murmured, her voice low and steady.

A scientist kneeling by a console trembled slightly.

"Lady Virelya, the sensors detected an Omega-class anomaly — two entities crossed simultaneously. An unprecedented reading!"

She turned slowly.

"Two...?" she whispered — part prayer, part curse.

A tense silence followed. Then, Virelya raised her hand, graceful and sharp as a blade.

"Send Argos to investigate. Give him a Lumencryta tracker and a rift tuner."

"Yes, Lady! Which region shall we deploy to?"

Her eyes narrowed on the map projection highlighting the rift's location — near the entrance to Sinnoh's Verdant Forest.

"To where the boundary tore."

She turned and walked away, the echo of her boots resonating through the metallic floor.

In her mind, an unease stirred.

The feeling that something ancient... something beautiful and dangerous had come through that rift.
