I stood there, my pants barely fastened, watching Seraphina's retreating form until she disappeared around the corner. Her final words replayed in my mind like a knife twisting in my gut.
"Then perhaps you should act like it."
Lilith's hand snaked around my waist from behind. "Don't worry about her, Kaelen. Come back inside and we can—"
"Don't touch me," I growled, shaking her off. The feel of her hands now repulsed me, the lingering taste of whiskey in my mouth turning sour.
"Kaelen!" she whined, reaching for me again. "You can't just leave me like this!"
I spun around, my patience shattered. "Enough, Lilith! This ends now. Whatever this was between us—it's over."
