Two weeks had passed when I felt it, The successor had been chosen. it was midday and I was washing dishes in the kitchen after lunch. "Mikey, I shouted I'm going out to the caves in the mountains to pick some strawberries." "Right now are they even ripe?" I ignored his question. I stopped washing the dishes and left our home.
It took me about an hour to get to our meeting spot. Theo was there waiting for me. The look on his face told me everything.
"It's Sue isn't it?"
He slowly nodded his head and reply. I rushed to him and wrapped my arms around him. We both started bawling like little babies. This was not the outcome either of us wanted at this point. Before Sue passed out, we had both hoped she would be chosen. Out of all our children she was the most responsible and the most dedicated to our family. To us she seemed like the best choice in that regard. now that she had been unconscious for so long with no sign of waking up everything was different."
"There's nothing we can do about it now Megan. It's all in Sue's hands and I believe she will get through this. We have to have faith. The spirits and the mountain are never wrong. I am living proof of that."
"Please can we not talk about this right now Theo? Can you please just hold me?" and that he did we stayed like that for what felt like an eternity.
When we broke apart, both of our faces were stained with tears. we then headed towards the cave entrance. "This is where we must say goodbye my love," he quietly said, his voice dripping with emotion and pain.
Tears started coming from my eyes once more he turned me to face him and wipe them from my eyes. "No more tears love, We both have to be strong. I will try my best to stay alive for as long as I can to give Sue a chance to wake up before the legacy is passed down to her. You must try your best to stay strong and fight off the madness for the kids."
Unable to speak, I just nodded my head.
Theo put his hand under my chin, tilted my head up until I was looking into his eyes. "My love these are my last words to you. Ever since we married, there has never been a day where I haven't felt loved and for that, I will be forever grateful. You have blessed me with four lovely children, and you have done me. The great honor of helping me preserve my family's legacy. But what I am most grateful for is always having you by my side. You are the one person in my life who has never tried to leave me and for that I could never thank you enough. I love you, Meagan. Goodbye, I will be waiting for you in heaven.
He tried to leave after that, but I grabbed his hand, stopping him. "Don't you dare think you can leave before I have a chance to goodbye well!"
I then took in a shaky breath, wiped away my tears, and then said my piece. Theo came into my life when I needed it the most. You will have always loved and cared for me in a way no one else has. Yes your love may have come with a heavy burden, but I was more than happy to bear it for you because you were worth it, you are worth it, and will always be worth it. I love you. I love you so much. That's why it hurts so much to see you have to leave like this but we can't change fate. I will wait until we meet again.
But then turned away from him and started to leave, but before I could, I felt a strong hand, grabbing mine and spinning me around. The next thing I knew, I found myself and his crushing embrace his lips pressing against mine in a passionate farewell kiss. The kiss did not last long, but it lasted long enough for us. We broke apart smiling at each other and then headed out of the cave hand in hand.
