Hazel's POV
Her eyes were blinking in expectancy for the answer as I drew back a little on my chair, the expression on her face far from being discreet.
" Mrs Yang, I mean, why would that bother you? It is my business if I decide to have sex with my husband", I was starting to get a little bit annoyed. Discussing such matters with her was far from being formal and would likely threaten our employer - employee relationship.
" No, it is not only your business", she said with certainty, just like how my nanny had convinced a five-year-old me that Santa Claus was real, only for me to pull the old man's beard and have it fall to the floor right in his face. " Sir, you're unhappy, someone like you who just got married shouldn't be this unhappy".
" And how is that any of your business Mrs Yang?" I was really beginning to find it amusing.
" Because it will not affect only you; it will affect every one of your employees".
I was speechless, " what do you mean? How will me.....not inserting it affect any of our employees?" yeah, like how? Will they all be sex starved if Hunter and I didn't do it? Or is there a special rule that employees would have to suspend all sexual activities until their boss consummates his marriage? I really needed answers.
" Sir, if you're unhappy, you won't be able to work. If you're not able to work, you wouldn't be productive. If you're not productive enough, you wouldn't be able to keep the company running with the number of staff it has, and the heavens forbid, but if it comes down to the level where you will have to do something, the next thing you would likely do will be to discharge some of your employees and that will leave them jobless and at the same time, penniless", the last word sounded personal, almost from the heart, as if she had experienced what it was like to be penniless.
" Why would you think that such a thing would ever happen? I mean, our company is doing so well for such a tragedy to befall us" I almost sounded empathetic.
" My friend's company faced the same issue. After her boss went through divorce, the company started falling apart, and before anyone could realize it, boom, they went bankrupt. They had to fire most of their employees when trying to revive the company. Now this friend of mine is unemployed and goes around doing menial jobs", there was contempt in her tone, as if she despised ever doing whatever it was her friend was doing.
Even I knew more than anyone else, but the fact that people's livelihood depended on me dawned on me more than ever after listening to her. I shouldn't take my job for granted because I definitely wouldn't be the only one to suffer the consequences.
" Well, Mrs Yang, that is a touchy one, but I assure you, the company will not suffer because of any shortcomings in my marriage, you don't need to be worried about losing your job", I tried to assure her; more like telling her to get the hell out, I've heard enough.
" Sir, it's easier said than done. You have to do it", she said, unable to read the air in the room and if I wasn't such a patient human being, she would've joined her friend in doing those menial jobs without my company having to fall apart or go bankrupt. " Look sir, it is very easy. You just have to let the yang energy take over you so that you can connect with the yin and have a wonderful love life with your husband; now that I think about it, my husband's last name is Yang", she laughed hysterically, sounding so much like those background laughter in comedy series - and hei, I just noticed too; her husband's last name was Yang. " That must be the reason why he is so good at what he does", she said, putting her hand over her mouth and blushing, " on our first night together....", she was looking up now, travelling down memory lane, " he was so considerate and slow. I didn't know if I told you but we had an arranged marriage", I couldn't tell if she was telling me that because I also had an arranged marriage. " My parents had insisted that I marry him even though I didn't know him not to talk of liking him, and given how obligated we were to listen to our parents back in the days, I went on with the marriage without any struggle and that was the best thing that had ever happened to me, not young people nowadays who are bent on marrying for love, only to end up separating after a year or two. Can you imagine that I specifically hand-picked a suitor for my daughter and she refused to marry him simply because he doesn't look like Brad Pitt".
" I really cannot imagine", I said, imagining what the girl would probably look like to want to have a husband that looks like Brad Pitt.
" Seriously sir. I told her that love happens, it grows if you give it time, and it is beyond the escapades of physical appearance but no, she's insisting on marrying for non-existential love", she said, as if she had given up on her daughter's case. " But back to the main matter sir, you have to do it, insert it and thank me later", there was a knowing smile on her face.
I leaned forward, dropping my pen and resting my elbow on my desk, " what if I'm not the one who does the inserting? What if I'm the one who will be penetrated?", I couldn't believe that I was indulging her in a sexual discussion.
She examined me, as if checking to see if 'bottom' was written somewhere on my body, " naw, you are not", she sounded final.
" How could you tell?"
" You clearly have yang energy, and that's a penetrator's energy".
" What if my husband also has yang energy?" I was trying to pick her brain.
" It doesn't work that way; Buddha doesn't match people that way. It's always yin and yang, never yin and yin or yang and yang".
" Wow, you really have a hand for that", I said, bowing out but not yet being so convinced: Hunter might also be a top. But that would only mean that we were never meant to be.
" I do", she got up, taking out her cleaning rag from the front pocket on her apron, " I'll be on my way sir. Please remember, having a good sex life is the foundation of every marriage. Sorry for taking too much of your time".
" No problem Mrs Yang", I said, feeling exactly the opposite.
She got up and left the room. A moment of peace.
" What is it again?" I asked as the door wrecked open almost immediately after she left. " Oh, Basil, do I have a meeting you didn't inform me about?"
" No sir, it's just that um........we got a call from the police station", he was reluctant to relay the message: something was wrong.
" What is it?" Did Hunter take the case further and report to the police, requesting for an immediate arrest and interview?
" Your husband got pulled over. You need to go bail him out".
