Chapter 12 - Chapter 12— The arrival of the moon

Kura and the principal kept beating the assassin, striking with all their might at key points like the man's head and right arm, trying to truly separate him from Itadaki's body and then kill him to put an end to it all. Arold was analyzing the entire fight, especially the burn on the original Miraijin's arm. He was using the last of his energy to process everything with his quick analytical mind, managing to shout to his older brother with all his strength while gasping for breath:

—Brother, throw him out of the building! The sun will kill him!

Arold screamed this with his remaining strength before temporarily falling unconscious. The electric boy's words reached both his brother and the principal, but for a split second, they left an opening — just enough for the immortal to vanish, leaving not only Kura but everyone there worried. The only one unfazed was the principal, who pulled a small crystal-like sphere from his pocket. He activated his power and connected the orb to the vision of the immortal man, noticing he was quickly approaching them.

The tall, bald man holding the orb quickly shoved Kura aside, managing to save the boy from having his head ripped off — and consequently being killed — by that damned assassin. But in doing so, the principal had his right arm instantly torn off. Blood and bone fragments could be seen flying through the air, hitting the ground and staining it red.

—Principal Regisseur, your arm!

Though clearly in pain, the principal couldn't stop protecting Kura from the immortal's next attack — another strike aiming for his head. Regisseur intercepted it with a kick to Dtùschar's right leg, throwing him off balance and making him slam into a wall instead of hitting the boy.

—Don't worry about my damned arm! Losing it is nothing compared to losing you! You're the only vessel this country has!

The principal shouted, then kicked his severed arm into the air, caught it mid-flight, and used it to swing his baton — still gripped in the lifeless hand — delivering a series of blows to the seemingly invincible enemy's head.

Kura snapped out of his shock, grabbed the immortal by the waist, and hurled himself at full speed into a wall, creating a massive hole that sent both of them outside. It looked like Dtùschar might finally die, especially as his arm began to burn — but unfortunately, the sun set, and nightfall saved the blond from certain death.

Both he and Kura crashed to the ground. The soldier landed with relatively few injuries, though he had cracked ribs and a fractured bone in his right leg. The blond began fleeing when suddenly, his legs were cut off.

—Hey, dumbass! Are you okay?

The voice came from Ali, who held a sword in her hand. Kura nodded in response. She leapt down from above, landing in what should've been a fatal fall, but she got up without a scratch — while the immortal man took the damage instead. Everyone around was stunned, except her brother Aki, who knew her powers well.

—Hey idiots, shoot me!

She barked the order to the lower-ranking soldiers under her command. They all obeyed, more out of fear of her using her powers on them than loyalty. They opened fire as she ran at full speed toward her enemy.

Strangely, she wasn't hurt at all by the hail of bullets — instead, the immortal was. "Her power was replicating the nervous system of anyone whose blood she consumed, making any damage inflicted on her reflected onto the original owner of that system." This explanation came from her brother Aki, who had just landed calmly on the ground.

As he stretched, he suddenly fired a shot to his right. The bullet changed course midair and struck the immortal. This amazed Kura, who began analyzing the powers at play.

—And how does your power work?!

He asked almost instantly, which delighted the young Aki, who was about to explain when the villain launched another attack — striking Ali to the side without causing too much harm, then advancing toward Aki. It would've been a fatal blow if the electric boy hadn't electrocuted the blond and sent him flying, though the effort made Kura vomit blood.

"Damn… I think I've hit my limit…"

Another strike was attempted. Kura barely dodged, and even grazing the blow left him nearly unconscious. A final strike aimed for Aki's head. Suddenly, an explosion hit the immortal's face — Arold had awakened.

The young man wielded a new sword taken from a soldier. He created "explosive air slashes" that not only cut Dtùschar but also blasted him. Arold launched himself with explosive blasts under his feet and slashed the man's chest with another explosive strike, causing blood and internal organs to burst from the wound. The violent attack shocked both Aki and Ali — it didn't even seem like Arold had been knocked out moments ago from exhaustion after leveling nearly three floors.

The immortal managed to retreat, regenerating the massive wound.

"It's like this damn kid's power got stronger — how did he do that?"

Arold didn't stop. He dashed with all his speed, destroying the ground beneath them to unbalance Dtùschar, making dodging impossible. Another explosive slash struck, obliterating a third of the enemy's body and sending the cursed killer flying.

—Bastard! Don't think you're escaping me!

Dtùschar regenerated quickly and raised his right fist, charging at Arold with claws now resembling steel. But Arold kept advancing with his explosive sword, now loaded with an energy material powerful enough to vaporize everything in a five-meter radius on impact.

Both attacks approached — and it looked like both the immortal and Arold would die.

Kura was too weak to intervene, Ali and Aki were too far, and the principal was still tending to his injury. Death seemed certain for Arold — until a voice rang out from afar:

—Jikū o kirisaku ha…

Right after those words, the only thing both the boy and the psychopath could see was a kind of green light that appeared between them. They both noticed that neither the blade nor the fist had met, which made them back away from that glow and retrieve the things they had used to carry out their attacks. It was noticeable that the parts hit by that "light" had simply ceased to exist. With the regeneration of that immortal being's body only beginning after he realized his hand was missing, both of them thought the same thing when they saw that:

— "What the hell just happened here? That thing just erased my blade/fist from existence out of nowhere?!"

That ray soon vanished, revealing that the ground had also been affected by the attack launched by that voice. Both fighters tried to look toward the source of the voice, unsure whether it was a new enemy or an ally. However, the blond couldn't see who the attacker was because a muscular man's fist came flying toward his face. The immortal being tried to block the attack by putting his arms in front of his head. Meanwhile, Arold managed to see who had launched the blow—it was none other than the one hailed as the best swordsman in the world, Subete Katto.

Back to the immortal man, who had luckily managed to partially defend himself from that attack, he didn't have much time to recover before being attacked again by a downward kick. He dodged it, but still suffered a cut that made his blood spurt out. Another blow was delivered to his head, this time by the same person who had kicked him. The one attacking him was a woman with a slender and well-defined body, looking quite muscular, her hair swinging as she struck. The woman wasn't frustrated by missing the attack and used that moment to land a powerful blow with her forearm, cracking his skull and neck, making him stagger and move away from her. A quick, ironic comment left her lips:

— Oh, did the big guy get surprised? Come on, don't fall just yet—the night is long, baby…~

They stared each other down. The wounds on his face now had small stones that looked like pieces of the moon. He exchanged a threatening glare with the woman. The people who had just arrived were the members of the Lächeln squad—ready to eliminate the enemy!
