Cherreads

Chapter 21 - 21

With the "creak" of the Tavern door opening, a long shadow stretched in, pulled by the setting sun. Doug seemed to sense something, tossing the rag in his hand and turning his head sharply.

"You brat, you're finally back! Damn it, you made me go a whole hour without talking!" Seeing me still standing at the Entrance in a daze, Doug pounced on me fiercely, slapping my shoulders hard, not forgetting to assault my ears with his raspy voice.

"Uh, yeah~~ Sorry, I went out for a bit and got lost. Just got back now."

I rubbed my eyes and grinned, clearly speechless at Doug's "gentle" greeting.

"Huh? What's wrong, Wu? What happened?"

Doug asked strangely, noticing my unusual behavior. It seemed he occasionally had his moments of attentiveness.

"Nothing," I rubbed my eyes again. "Today's sunset is just too damn dazzling."

"Haha... I told you, Wu, you must have been staring at the sunset the whole time, haha..."

Doug roared with laughter. I thought, it's fine if you mock me, but can't you keep it down? Do you have to make me endure the double torment of my mind and ears? And here I was just feeling touched for a few minutes.

"Right, where's Geoff?"

To stop Doug from further assaulting my ears, I had to immediately blurt out the question I'd been holding in.

"He went out looking for you. He's already searched several times. Looks like he'll be back soon."

Damn it, just finished hitting me, and now you want to make me feel touched again? No way, not even a window.

Doug and I casually picked a table and sat down. Seeing Doug sit, I was quite conflicted about choosing my own seat.

Sitting next to Doug meant enduring his noise bombardment. Sitting across from Doug meant enduring the baptism of his spit. After thinking it over, I cautiously chose a seat at a 120-degree angle from him, thinking this position should be the most ideal.

Unexpectedly, fate had other plans. When I sat down, Doug turned his face towards me, and countless pieces of nonsense, mixed with sparkling spittle, flooded out like a raging torrent. I wanted to cry but had no tears. If I had known this, I would have just sat directly across from him.

Before long, just as I was on the verge of death from Doug's bombardment, the great Comrade Geoff finally returned. What a good person! You will definitely become a Hero who saves the Dark Continent in the future. My eyes welled up with tears of gratitude.

Geoff glanced at the person lying on the table, on the verge of death, and a hint of a smile flickered in his eyes.

"Geoff, you're finally back!"

Seeing my savior appear, I immediately stepped forward, as if a central leader had come for an inspection, grabbing Geoff's large hands with both of mine and shaking them vigorously.

"Welcome, welcome, a warm welcome..."

Oops, I accidentally blurted out a phrase from my original world.

"Where did you go just now?" Geoff also sat down and asked strangely. He had almost walked around the entire Rogue Encampment.

"Oh, I stayed by the Fountain for a while."

"No wonder..."

Geoff thought I was lost (which was true) and didn't expect me to be so close to the Tavern. He couldn't help but sigh that the most dangerous place is the safest, no wonder he hadn't found me, and so on.

Seeing that there was no one else around, Doug was probably bored staying in this ghost place. So the three of us called the boss, paid the bill, and walked out of the Tavern. While searching for me, Geoff had already found an Inn and booked three Rooms. He truly lived up to his title as an unconventional Barbarian; his actions were indeed meticulous.

This was a large house called the Dream Hotel. According to Geoff, although it wasn't the most luxurious Inn in the entire Rogue Encampment, the service inside was particularly warm and thoughtful, making it very popular among Adventurers.

The first floor of the Inn was the Restaurant. As soon as I entered, a chubby middle-aged man greeted us warmly. I looked around the Restaurant, and the Waiters all had natural smiles on their faces, without a hint of artificiality, clearly well-trained.

I couldn't help but admire the foresight of this Inn's owner. In this war-torn Continent, there really aren't many people who think of improving staff quality instead of just relying on luxurious decoration. It seemed the first five-star hotel on the Dark Continent wasn't that far off.

The Tavern didn't serve anything to fill our stomachs, and we were all starving, bellies pressed against our backs. Especially Doug, whose stomach had been rumbling like thunder uncontrollably from the start. Even with his thick skin, he couldn't help but blush.

The three of us immediately found a table in the Restaurant and ordered a table full of dishes. Speaking of which, this was the first time I had eaten hot food since coming to Diablo. All along, I had only eaten Doug's Dried Meat, which was dry and easily made you tired of eating it.

I took a sip of the Meat Soup. En, not bad. Although it was still not as good as in my original world, at least they knew to add some seasoning to remove the gamey smell.

After the three of us devoured the table full of food, we patted our bellies and returned to our respective Rooms. I had been walking all day, and thinking about everything that had happened today was overwhelming. From returning to the Rogue Encampment, to meeting the Little Girl Lin Ya, the blind Akara, the Blacksmith beauty Charsi, and the Bugged Amulet, the ups and downs of my mood had left me mentally exhausted. After silently recalling the day's events, I could no longer resist the invasion of fatigue and fell into a deep sleep.

I slept straight until noon the next day before slowly coming out of my Room. Unexpectedly, as soon as I opened the door, I saw Doug also coming out of his Room, looking groggy. We exchanged a smile, feeling like kindred spirits.

Going down to the Restaurant, Geoff was already sitting there eating lunch. He truly was an unconventional Barbarian.

"Doug, Geoff, I want to go to the Wilderness to train by myself," I said indistinctly, chewing on a piece of tender, boiled fragrant meat.

Doug and Geoff exchanged glances.

"Wu, are you sure you'll be okay alone? Maybe it's safer to find a few more people to go with." They didn't intend to stop me, just advised me to see if I could find more people to party with. Going out for training is something every Adventurer must experience. Birds in a cage will eventually lose the ability to soar.

"Forget it, I asked around. No one has Class Changed in the past few months. Where would I find people to party up?" I looked at their worried gaze. They were clearly uneasy about me going alone. Even they, during their first training, had gone with 4 or 5 people in a party.

"It's okay, don't I have this Wooden Club? And you guys taught me a lot of techniques the past few days. I already have a lot more advantages than those people. Even alone, as long as I'm careful, I believe I can handle it."

I said leisurely, adding silently in my heart, plus that Bugged Amulet. If I can successfully level up, and if I learn a skill, I can even fight you three for a while.

The two Barbarian brothers put their heads together and discussed. Finally, Doug said,

"Alright, my dear Wu, we don't have the right to stop you. Good luck."

Geoff also nodded beside him, looking at me with a sincere expression.

...

"Wu, take this. Consider it a farewell gift from me."

As I was about to leave, Doug stepped forward and said, pulling out a dark Tent from his private Item Space.

"This was given to me by my teacher. Now, I'm giving it to you. Good luck," Doug patted my shoulder, saying it with a look that I couldn't refuse.

"Good brothers," I patted the shoulders of the two Barbarian brothers. In this world where strength reigns supreme, perhaps only they were so good to me.

"Good brothers," they also patted my shoulders. Even Geoff, who usually had a stern face, became emotional.

I didn't say anything more, turned around, and walked out of the Inn under the gaze of the two brothers.

The friendship between men requires no excessive words, yet it can make one's blood boil.

...

First, I had to go to the Plaza and put the Small Amulet on. Although the most overpowered +7 All Skills was still unusable, the added Critical Hit Chance and Experience Points alone were enough to make me grin from ear to ear.

Before long, the prismatic crystal appeared in my sight.

It seemed there were a few people who had seen my embarrassing state yesterday. Seeing me come again now, their eyes were filled with contempt and hostility.

I didn't mind. This was a world where strength spoke. And I would prove my ability to everyone. One day, when I stood at the peak, you people would bow at my feet, singing poems of praise for me, and offering your piety.

It seemed I was still affected by the Inner Demon from yesterday. The idea of living in seclusion in the mountains and leading a carefree life had unknowingly changed. But it didn't matter, as long as it was within my control. A man should have some ambition, some dominance, otherwise others would think he's easy to bully.

Approaching the crystal, I silently opened my Stash. The Small Amulet, which I had thrown aside in my panic yesterday, still lay quietly in that corner, like an unopened divine weapon waiting for its master's arrival.

I gently picked it up, my hands still trembling uncontrollably. Fortunately, after yesterday's test, I would no longer lose my mind because of its power. After looking at it carefully for a few moments, I solemnly placed it in my Inventory. The moment my hand released it, its power was officially unleashed. I didn't know if it was an illusion, but I felt my whole body lighten, as if a powerful and vigorous warm current flowed through my limbs and bones, and my whole body emitted a faint white light. I looked around, and no one noticed the strange phenomenon on my body. It seemed it was probably just my illusion.

Next, I easily found a sword in another corner, a sword made of pure crystal. Unlike the ordinary Small Amulet, this Crystal Sword was dazzling like a perfect work of art. It was just that yesterday I had been scared silly by the Small Amulet and hadn't noticed its radiance.

The entire sword body of the Crystal Sword was made of pure crystal, clear and transparent, faintly emitting a dreamy blue light. Several fine, red, blood-like lines were wrapped around the sword body, spiraling from the tip to the connection point of the hilt, emitting a bloodthirsty and eerie aura. The hilt was relatively long, carved from yellow diamonds, and inlaid with a blood-red gem, like a demon's pupil, making people feel intimidated before even fighting. The connection between the hilt and the sword body was seamless, as if they were one piece. The entire sword was like the art of slaughter, exuding a mesmerizing majesty and irresistible charm, making one unable to resist holding it.

Undoubtedly, I couldn't resist this temptation. My hands involuntarily gripped the hilt and tried to pick it up... Uh... pick it up? I used all my strength, but the sword didn't move at all.

"Huh?"

Coming back to my senses, I broke out in a cold sweat. Fortunately, I couldn't even bear the weight of the sword, otherwise I might have been controlled by it just now. This truly was a demon's sword.

I held my breath, trying hard to stay conscious, and looked at the sword again. Although I was not yet strong enough to pick up this sword, I could still see its attributes. Half a month had passed, and I had experienced countless thrilling events in between. I had completely forgotten the attributes of this Dimensional Blade, which I had personally crafted with my own hands?
