Chapter 4: Trapped In The Memory
Mila stood frozen in the hallway long after his footsteps had disappeared.
This isn't over. His voice echoed in her mind like a haunting promise.
Her fingers brushed her lips, recalling the kiss they never talked about—the kiss that refused to be forgotten. It didn't just live in her memory; it consumed it. No matter how hard she tried, it clung to her like a second skin.
He was her sister's fiancé.
Every inch of her screamed wrong, but her heart whispered something more dangerous: what if it isn't?
She turned the corner and slipped quietly into the guest room she'd been assigned for the engagement week, quietly closing the door behind her before the weight of the moment could crush her.
But it wasn't that easy.
She stood with her back against the door, pressing her palm flat against the wood, hoping that would somehow calm the chaos inside her.
Why did he have to look at me like that?
Why did she look back?
Ten minutes passed. Maybe more. She sat on the edge of her bed, numb, staring at nothing, every part of her mind replaying the conversation in the hallway.
His words. His closeness. The way the world had gone silent between them, except for the loud truth neither wanted to face.
Her phone buzzed beside her, startling her. She snatched it up like it had burned her.
A text.
From Anna.
"Can we talk later tonight? I need to tell you something."
Mila's stomach twisted.
Anna never used punctuation. She never sounded this serious. And the guilt that had been trying to stay buried suddenly pressed harder on Mila's chest.
What did Anna want to talk about?
Had she noticed something?
Did she know?
Mila's thumbs hovered over the screen, but she couldn't bring herself to reply. Not yet.
The mirror across the room caught her reflection. She looked the same—but nothing felt the same anymore.
The girl staring back at her had tasted forbidden things.
And liked it.
She brushed a hand through her hair and laughed bitterly. "Get a grip, Mila," she whispered to herself. "It was just a kiss."
But deep down, she knew it wasn't. It was everything she wasn't supposed to want. And yet—here she was.
Haunted. Tempted. Torn.
How much longer could she keep this secret buried?
Because secrets always had a way of digging themselves up.
And hers?
Hers had lips—and eyes—and a voice that said "This isn't over."
End of Chapter 4
Let's be real—pretending nothing happened is sometimes harder than facing the truth. Mila's trying to hold it together, but that kiss didn't just leave a mark… it cracked something open. And now, Anna's message? Yeah, things are about to get messy.
Does Anna already know more than Mila thinks?
