Chapter 3 - Memories Of Himself

Nameless saw his mother gently embracing him,

Training with his lovely father in the isolation chamber,

Their faces were vague but he knew its his parents,

Visiting the ethereal kings temple,

playing in the obsidian city hall,

Then he saw, his father arguing with a hunched back muscular crimson monster,

His father told him to run, so he did.

A few minutes later his fathers agonizing scream came from the back alley, so he ran even faster.

He told mommy everything, his mom ran in the middle of the night just to ask for help from somebody, anybody but nobody came.

Nobody came when his fathers lifeless body was taken away,

Nobody came when his mother shut herself down in a room,

Nobody came when they were starving for a bit of food,

Slowly, even his mother started ignoring him, she would even forget to eat sometimes. And she would go out at night, wearing a pitch black cloak.

Nameless always thought he was the reason for his fathers death and his mothers strange behaviour.

If he was just a little bit more brave, just a little bit more strong, he could have done something.

'At least I would have died in my fathers place!!'

But not this time, he was going to protect his mom.

And that was the day his mother got caught, saving him.

And that was the day another skeleton Hung in the lower layer.

Amid all of 'his' vague memories he just couldn't answer one question.

' if i am born and bred here, then why am i keeping track of the past seven days?!'

As soon as those thoughts came to his mind, his head started hurting furiously. He clenched his chest even tighter.

'It's OK, it doesn't matter!'

'It's OK!!'

'I still have time, and now i have a home to go back to.'

'It's OK!!!'

'It's OK!!!!' he repeatedly murmured those words to himself, as if to rid himself of all the pain.

 ______________

'Ahhh...., it's cold. it's very cold. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!!!'

Nameless jolted awake, his lungs were eerie cold, his head was numb. His heart was working overtime to pump blood to his brain.

His lungs screamed for air, but there was nothing to gasp. Every breath was colder than the last one. Darkness slowly began creeping in from the corners of his eyes.

He helplessly started frailing his arm around.

'Huh‚ my arm. how the h..?' before he could finish his thoughts, he was violently pulled from the water and slammed into the rugged obsidian surface. Pain surged through his back like a flowing current.

"HEY HEY, take it easy laila," a careful but melodious sound rang behind the muscular shadowy figure.

Nameless slowly tried to open his eyes, but his attempts were futile. A hand was already pressing against his jaw, threatening to crush it open.

"You wretch! do you have any idea what you are doing?!" a voice seething with anger said clenching his jaw even tighter.

As He looked up, in front of him was a woman with sharp facial and muscular tanned features. Darkcircled eyelids, her luscious dark brown hair was cut short around her chest and were now falling towards him.

She looked at him with cold contempt.

She was wearing a brownish worn down leather armour, specially reinforced around the torso, chest and cuisses which made her look fearsome nonetheless.

"I mean, clearly not," a dark melodious voice rang behind her.

A handsome dark skinned man with his hair neatly braided in a middle part was standing behind her.

What surprised nameless was not his blindfold but his strange clothes choice. He was just wearing a simple white tunic with a long civils scaley pant rather than armor.

He had a long circular quiver filled to the brim with obsidian arrows. And an intricately made recurve bow.

But there was another one, behind them a bulky, dark skinned man with obsidian armor covering his whole body except for the head and a shield quite literally as big as him. His bald head, one eye and long beard did not help him appear anymore welcoming. Despite his big stature, he was eerily silent. Somehow it felt like, his icy gray eyes hid deep clouds of madness and could get out at any moment's notice.

Nameless was still in a liminal state, so the information was rushing in his mind like a violent tide. Usually he would just keep his head down and mind his own business. He learned it from experience. Then the realisation dawned on him that those hunters were not just ordinary hunters.

'F-From the city, th-the city of Mirage!'

Cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

Mirage was made of three upper layers and only authorised personnel could come to Rogue. So by coming here he already doomed himself.

'Augh, i should have ran faster!' scoffing at himself, he realized it wouldn't have made a difference.

'That damned civil!' But his thoughts were shortly interrupted.

"Tell me you little piece of shit, aren't you the one who broke the wall, kill all those civils around here and you are the reason that all those blood hounds attack three days ago right?" tightly pressing her hands against his neck.

"Ahhh, wha...are you..ahem, ahem...its m-my first time..co-coming here," nameless scoffed, trying everything he could to get out off this sinister grip.

"Whoa, calm down laila you're jumping into conclusion again," the handsome guy calmly spoke, as if not to anger her any further. He quickly pointed at all the civils carcass scattered there, "Do you really think he killed all of them himself, when in reality he couldn't even defeat the healthy one alone."

Now that he mentioned it, all those carcasses do look different, their body part didn't match up. At first he thought they were a part of a much bigger civil but now that he took a closer look at it, their carcasses differ in size. Hunters really have sharp ey...

'Wait! he doesn't even have eyes.'

"I don't give a shit, Noah!" whipping her hand out of his grip, "Doesn't matter, the kid needs to understand his responsibility, didn't you see when the blood hound attacked the other day, just because he couldn't move his lazy ass up faster our hunters died."

Nameless fell silent, his head stumped down. She was right if he was a bit more faster, more stronger, people didn't have to die because of him, again.

"And do you think, he feels even a little bit remorseful about the life's, he took?" she gritted her teeth even more furiously, now small sparks of blood flowed down from it.

'I am sorry.'

"Do you think people like him ever change they stay the same, the same pieces of shit that have ambition as high as heavens but does nothing and watches their life go by behind their shell that, they crafted for themselves. And when they do try, either innocent people or they themself die in the process. they only exist to give pain and misery to themselves and others."

'I AM sorry!'

By then blood flowed like streams of crimson liquid from her mouth. Her fist was strained beyond comprehension that they started turning purple, her nails digging into her skin.

And a slight hint of sorrow and guilt found its way in the corner of her eyes, and flowed down.

"Come on Laila! he's just a kid!!" the handsome guy spoke, his tone not so friendly anymore.

'I AM SORRY!!'

"We were kids too we weren't born in the upper layer like others did ...!"

For nameless everything became silent. Only he and his guilt remained.

'I AM SORRY MOTHER!!'

'I AM SORRY FATHER!!'

'I AM SO SO SORRY!!'

"How many times are you going to cry to your dead mom and daddy, they can't hear you, even Gods can't hear you in this wretched place!" the voice in his head growled.

"You don't understand any of it, the guilt that i am carrying, the pain that i suffer. YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND ANY OF IT!" he lashed out as loudly as he could, letting out all the pain, sorrow that he had bottled up.

"I do!! and I'm the only person who ever will, and one day you will understand my pain too... one day....," the voice slowly faded away, like it never existed in the first place.

'like hell i will!' gritting his teeth, he let out a quiet chuckle .

"SHUT UP!" a deep commanding voice echoed.

All three of them looked at the stone like man.

"LET GO OF THE BOY, LAILA," through his voice the grip slowly came undone and nameless fell on the obsidian surface.

"BY YOUR SCREAM AND WHAT NOAH SAW, YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO HAVE DEEP GASHES ALL OVER YOUR BODY, BUT I DON'T SEE A SINGLE DROP OF BLOOD, MIND EXPLAINING."

All three of them looked around and there was nothing but jagged pieces of huge obsidian rock.

Nameless could have come up with a reliable answer, if his mouth didn't move on its own,

"I don't know."

'Damn it! What's wrong with my tongue,' he never wanted to get on the city's bad side.

"So you are stealing our GUMs now?" laila gritted her teeth and tried to reach for his neck again.

"Even so, the Gums that the city produces couldn't have healed him before we arrived," noah scoffed after stopping her hand.

"Whatever the case do not come here again, NOW GO!" Baldy added, he's words sounded more like an order than a suggestion.

Just like again, nameless-s body straightened and moved on its own.

'Maybe It's his voice' hunters have all kinds of weird power. By then he was already up and trying to move.

But before the boy could move, something fell from his mantels hood. His mantel was already torn, only the hood remained intact and in front of the hood a small emblem with the symbol of a bird fell to the obsidian floor.

Before he could run or pick it up, a lean muscular arm picked it up. After looking at it thoroughly, she looked at him with no humour in her eyes. Her eyes shone with unknown emotions, breathing became more hors, fist clenched too tightly.

"You...how...dear you....!"

With that, nameless found himself sprawled on the ground, again. Only this time he was actively being choked. Her both hands clamped shut around his neck, while her knee was pressing against his ankle.

This time he was not so helpless anymore. He tried to hit her, get out of that guillotine choke, even to pock her eyes but nothing worked. Either she would move to the side to Dodge or choke him even tighter.

Thankfully baldy and noah pulled her out at that crucial moment.

"GET OUT, NOW!" Baldy shouted loudly.

"Do you have any idea how many lives have lost that day! just because of your mothers betrayal...!" she scoffed while trying to free herself.

Nameless didn't even wait for her to finish, he just ran, ran and ran, not even dareing to look back.
