THE DEVIL'S BRIDE
Episode 26: When the Devil Rises
By Rapwizzy Debaron
The battlefield was chaos—screams tangled with steel, wings clashed with shadows, and fire devoured stone like hunger.
Kael moved like a tempest.
He wasn't just fighting—he was awakening.
Each blow of his sword echoed louder, sharper, until sparks of dark fire began to flicker from his fingertips. He didn't notice. He only saw the enemy, and they burned under his gaze.
"KAEL!" Evelyn screamed through the smoke.
But he was lost—trapped in the rush of power.
A golden spear shot through the fog.
Straight toward Kael's chest.
---
Time froze.
Then...
A blast of black light shattered the sky.
Lucien appeared.
Not as a man.
Not as a shadow.
But as the Devil.
His horns curved like obsidian thrones. His wings unfurled, vast and burning. His eyes—two pits of molten fury.
He caught the spear mid-air and crushed it to dust.
Uriel staggered backward, shielding his eyes.
Lucien growled, voice layered in a thousand tongues. "You dare touch what's mine?"
Evelyn's breath caught.
Not in fear…
But awe.
---
Lucien stood over Kael like a wall of wrath. Flames rose around him, not scorching, but protecting.
"Leave," he warned the angels.
Uriel sneered. "You think we fear the fallen king?"
Lucien smiled, slow and wicked.
"No. But you should."
With a wave of his hand, a rift tore open in the sky—black and deep and filled with screaming shadows. From it poured creatures of nightmare: horned beasts, winged serpents, forgotten gods.
Seraphina's army faltered.
Even she, watching from a distance, clenched her fists.
He's regaining power, she thought.
Too fast.
Too soon.
---
But Evelyn wasn't watching Lucien.
She was watching Kael—kneeling in the dust, staring at his hands.
They were glowing.
A strange mark had appeared on his wrist.
Ancient. Celestial.
She rushed to him. "Kael? Are you okay?"
He looked up, dazed.
"I felt something," he whispered. "Like… like I wasn't alone."
Lucien turned, eyes narrowing.
He saw the mark too.
And for the first time…
He looked afraid.
---
Back at the camp that night, no one spoke of victory.
Only survival.
Kael sat by the fire, silent.
Evelyn tended to his wounds, trying to hide her trembling hands.
Lucien stood apart, watching them both.
Seraphina had vanished once more.
But her words echoed in Evelyn's ears:
"He is the key. The gate. The ending… and the beginning."
And now, Lucien seemed to believe it too.
The Devil didn't fear armies.
Didn't fear angels.
But he feared that mark.
He feared Kael.
And Evelyn couldn't stop wondering—
What if he had a reason to?
---
To be continued…
