At the dawn of the universe, the Honkai emerged as a cosmic force of entropy that opposed the flourishing of advanced human civilizations. Whenever humanity reached a critical point of development, the Honkai awakened, incarnating itself in natural disasters, irrational beasts and, finally, in conscious entities known as Herrschers. This force seemed to be governed by a higher will, abstract and incomprehensible to humans, whose sole objective was the eradication of civilization. Thus began a constant cycle: human advance, Honkai intervention, collapse and reboot.
In an era lost in history, there existed a human civilization far more advanced than today's, both technologically and evolutionarily. At that time, the Honkai also awakened and devastated their world through multiple manifestations, among them the thirteen Herrschers, each representing a different aspect of the Honkai's destructive power. To confront them, the MOTH organization emerged, a coalition of the last survivors of that era. Among its members were individuals who would become known as the Flame Hunters, beings genetically modified through Project MANTIS, who fought valiantly in a desperate attempt to resist the enemy advance.
Elysia, Kevin, Su, Vill-V and other fighters took on the Herrschers one by one, many of whom were former allies, acquaintances or even ordinary humans corrupted by the will of the Honkai. One by one, the Flame Hunters fell, sacrificing themselves to preserve what little remained. Finally, Kevin, who had been the most powerful of all, decided to activate Project Ark, a plan to preserve human life by freezing embryos and sending them off-planet until the Honkai disappeared or could be contained. With the sacrifice of all his companions and the final fall of the 13th Herrscher, the world was left in ruins, but the seed of humanity survived, hidden in time.
As the millennia passed, the planet began to heal and a new human civilization emerged, completely unrelated to the previous cycle. In this new world, the Honkai lay dormant for centuries, until it returned to activity with the technological renaissance of modern humanity. Soon anomalies began to appear: outbreaks of unknown energy, unexplained disasters and humans developing extraordinary powers. The Honkai was awakening again.
Over the decades, both organizations accumulated power and developed incredible technologies: mechas, clones, sealed Herrscher cores and experiments with the genetic structure of the ancient MANTIS. Among the most relevant projects was the cloning of a girl named Kiana Kaslana, a genetic replica with the potential to house the Void Herrscher core, the most powerful of all ancient Herrschers. Otto intended to use her as a receptacle to recreate a divine version of Kallen. This coldly made decision triggered a series of events that would shape the fate of the world.
Over the years, the Honkai manifested itself in various forms around the world. Organizations that had emerged in secret, such as Schicksal and Anti-Entropy, began to actively act to contain these outbreaks. The Honkai was awakening again.
At that uncertain moment a silhouette appeared falling from the sky, causing a great roar all around.
