Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: Follow Me to the Underworld

The Joker was about to say something on the TV show, but it did not matter to Connors. After he finished cleaning up, he discovered something: his Spider-Sense had become a magnet again, attracting Cindy Moon, Silk, who was rushing toward him, while Harley Quinn was gone.

He immediately decided to go out and look for Harley, not because he worried she was in danger, but because he feared missing out on "juicy gossip" if he was late. The rewards for secondhand gossip and firsthand experiences were different.

He got dressed, went downstairs, drove, and hit the road. Just as Connors felt glad he had left before Cindy arrived, he heard a cry of surprise.

Pedestrians on both sides of the street in Gotham covered their mouths and looked up at the sky in disbelief. Then, large pieces of spider silk fell from the sky, and the car Connors drove shot straight upward.

With the help of his Spider-Sense, he knew the spider silk had found him, so he simply turned off the car mid-air and leaned back in the seat to see what would happen. Soon, the car was pulled by the spider silk to a height of nearly 20 meters above the ground, stopping between two tall buildings, high above the street.

At this point, Cindy had set up a large net, and Connors and his car became the prey in the net.

"Damn, is it the Joker again?"

"This time it's not the Joker, but a guy we've never seen before. He seems to have spider-like abilities. The citizen who called the police said it seemed to be a woman. In just a few breaths, she wove a large web between two buildings and even pulled a two-ton car into the air."

"I am leaving it to you, Gordon. Send a helicopter for rescue if necessary. You can try to use a flamethrower to burn off the spider web. I still need to deal with him."

The chief of the Gotham City Police Department said to Captain Gordon, pointing at the Joker on the computer screen.

Gordon wasted no time and quickly gathered his people. Police cars roared with sirens blaring. When they arrived at the scene, they found it was just as the passerby who called the police had described: a car was suspended in the air by a huge spider web.

But… Captain Gordon fell into deep thought as he looked at the car swaying rhythmically in the air. The people around did not leave. Instead, they stood there with their mobile phones, watching the show.

"Send the helicopter and first observe whether the hostages in the car are safe. Do not use weapons of mass destruction. You can try to use a flamethrower to burn off the spider web."

"Lay an air cushion under the car to ensure the car will not explode if it falls."

Captain Gordon pulled out his walkie-talkie. As soon as he finished speaking, the car that had been swaying in the air stopped moving.

After a while, the car door opened in full view of everyone, and a masked man and a masked woman jumped out, hugging each other. At this moment, the air cushion below had not been laid out, and even the crowd evacuation had not been completed.

Amid Gordon's wide eyes and the screams of onlookers, the two people in the air shot out a spider silk that attached to the tall building, then swung away. By the time the helicopter finally arrived, the two had long disappeared.

"Cindy, next time, could you please not kidnap me in broad daylight? This is too high-profile," Connors said, hugging Cindy, speaking the first words between them so far.

"…" Cindy said nothing. Spider silk continued to shoot from her fingertips, but her breathing began to quicken again.

Connors was shocked. Having sex in the car in the air, using a spider silk web, was exciting enough, but he could not do it again while flying, could he? Fortunately, although Cindy Moon's breathing was rapid, they had just experienced a big event, so she was able to control it.

While in the air, Connors felt the wind in his mouth and nose. Seeing that Cindy ignored him, he simply closed his mouth.

On the big screen on the street, the Joker was still talking:

"Today, your dear Joker has something very special to do…"

"Those rich and powerful guys have ruled us ordinary people for too damn long, and now it's their turn to be tortured!"

"So, I am going to have a buy-one-get-one-free promotion: today, I am going to get rid of Judge Thomas Lake, and Gotham's favorite tycoon Bruce Wayne."

Connors said to Cindy, who constantly shot spider silk in his arms:

"Go to Gotham Reservoir."

He did not know where the reservoir was at all, but Cindy's Spider-Sense was countless times stronger than Spider-Man's, both now and in the comics. He was not worried that Cindy did not know the reservoir's location.

Soon, their direction changed, and they quickly moved toward the Gotham Reservoir.

Although the process did not entirely match the comics, the events developed similarly.

Connors had just read the comic "The Man Who Laughs" before traveling through time, so he realized early on that the Joker's "laughing gas" was causing trouble.

According to the plot development, killing Judge Thomas Lake and Bruce Wayne was not the Joker's true purpose. This madman's real goal was to pour the laughing gas virus into the reservoir, causing everyone in the city to die while laughing.

He wanted revenge on everyone who turned him into this clown so the whole city would "follow him to hell."

As the story developed, it was no surprise that Batman would recapture the Joker and end this disaster.

But this would not work. Even if Connors were present at the scene, he would just be a spectator. To get bigger rewards, he had to participate!

He had given Batman a hint about the "reservoir" yesterday, but given Batman's intelligence, he would definitely guess that the combination of "laughing gas" and "reservoir" was a blockbuster bomb that could paralyze the entire city.

Batman must have already made arrangements there, but the suspicious Batman would not be led by Connors, and Batman would have a backup plan. If things went wrong, he might take down both Connors and the Joker, which would go against Connors' purpose.

While it was still early, Connors had to hurry to the reservoir.

Of course, there was another reason he gave up looking for Harley Quinn and turned to look for the Joker: just moments ago, Harley Quinn flashed behind the Joker on the big screen on the street.

Harley appeared behind the Joker not because she still had feelings for him, but because she was swinging a baseball bat, preparing for a sneak attack. However, a green cane hit her on the back of the head.

Before reaching the reservoir, Connors offered Cindy Moon a cucumber on a high-rise building.

He then said goodbye to Cindy, who had not spoken a word until now, and headed straight for the reservoir.

Gotham Reservoir.

A place resembling a magic stage was temporarily built there. The Joker had been transferred there from Arkham Asylum a long time ago; otherwise, Batman would have caught him already.

At this moment, the Joker wore a purple suit and had green hair. Behind him stood a man in a green suit and a green top hat. Unlike the Joker's solid-colored suit, the green suit was covered with question marks of all sizes.

"You are the cancer of Gotham, spreading from Gotham's lymph nodes to the spleen. If you spread to the bladder, even God cannot save us… but I am using chemotherapy," the Joker said with a laugh, waking Harley Quinn, who lay on the ground, by splashing her with cold water.

Bang! Batman spread his cape and descended to the ground.

"It's over, Joker… and Harleen."

"... Riddler? Why are you here?"
