Chapter 1 - [Main Text]

I Married the Young Master I Don't Like. It's not that there's anything wrong with the young master, but simply put, I don't know him.I can't say I don't know him completely. The title of the Fifth Prince, Xian Wang Chu Jingyun, is quite well-known in Xin'an City. But to me, he's nothing more than a legendary figure—someone I've never seen in person, alive, capable of running, jumping, or even catching his breath. In the legends, Chu Jingyun also has a cherished unrequited love, his "white moonlight."So, I know that the young master doesn't like me either. How coincidental! On the day of the wedding, I was quickly pulled away to get dressed and made up. The marriage of the Xian Wang's legitimate wife was grand and lively. I even had the honor of going to the palace to pay my respects to the king, feeling quite important. In fact, this marriage wasn't something I absolutely had to go through with, but the king offered so much that I was momentarily blinded by the temptation of wealth and nodded in agreement.Although I regretted it a little once I returned to the mansion, I still gritted my teeth and held on, all the way through the wedding ceremony and into the bridal chamber, as I gazed at the piles of gold and silver.People really do die for wealth!

Even though I didn't like Chu Jingyun, it didn't stop me from happily enjoying the whole wedding experience. After all, marrying a prince as his official wife is probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience.Once the maids and servants had left, I lifted my bridal veil and sat down at the table. From my sleeve, I pulled out the storybook I'd been hiding all day, munching snacks as I read. I didn't look up until the matron of honor came in to light the lamps—and there we were, staring at each other in surprise.

"Just give me a moment—I've only got two more lines to finish this chapter."

"Princess Consort, why are you the one lighting the candles?"

The matron watched as I pulled a flint from my sleeve, and the corner of her mouth twitched ever so slightly. In a few quick steps, she approached and reached out her claw-like hand toward me.

"Wait... no, hold on—don't you dare!"

I watched helplessly as she took that whole pile of odds and ends from my sleeves.

Before leaving, the matron sighed and said, "His Highness will be here any moment. How much longer until you finish reading, Your Grace?"

"Give me a quarter of an hour to prepare!"

I straightened up and threw myself back into the storybook with renewed focus.
