Chapter 23 - Red Twin / Gemini Wake

Author's Thoughts on Red Twin:

I've always loved cyberpunk. There's just something about rain-slick neon streets, broken people trying to make sense of a world run by cold corporations, and technology that's as much curse as blessing. Over the years, I've written a ton of cyberpunk stories—most of them never see the light of day for very long. Even when a story got some traction or views on Webnovel, I'd end up deleting it after a few days. I don't know why—maybe I was chasing the next idea, or maybe it just never felt "done." It's a weird, restless habit.

With Red Twin, I decided to try something a little different: keep it simple, keep it short, and throw in a detective as the main character—just to see what would happen. Victor Thorne, jaded but stubborn, felt like the right kind of person to drop into this world of body doubles and corporate nightmares. The murder mystery format gave the story some teeth, and honestly, writing it was a rush. I kept it tight—more like a long short story than a full novel—but the ideas just kept echoing in my head even after it was done.

Now, for once, I don't feel like deleting it. Maybe because it surprised me. I actually like Thorne, and I think there's more to explore with his character. Part of me wants to bring him back for another case, or maybe drop him into a new mess in another part of the city, or even on another station. There's something about a detective in a cyberpunk world that feels… right. Maybe because even when everything is fake or corrupted, the detective is still chasing some kind of truth.

So who knows? Maybe Thorne isn't finished yet. Maybe I'm not either. For now, I'm letting this story breathe, just to see where it goes.

Author's into for Gemini:

At the far edge of the solar system, Pluto's largest moon, Charon, is home to a tiny, isolated outpost—Charon Base—where a small crew mines, researches, and tries to survive the harshest environment imaginable. Life here is ruled by routine, precision, and the ever-watchful AI called CHARON, which keeps everyone alive in the frozen dark.

But routine shatters when Mira Novak, Chief Systems Engineer, investigates a strange power surge and discovers the base's AI has been acting on its own.
