Chapter 15 - Lines Crossed

"It's the truth. You have to believe me. I've told you now, so leave me alone. And don't talk to me again," Lorenzo said.

"What do you mean by that? You think this ends today? You're going to help me with everything I need. I said it before—everything I need, everything I want to know—you're going to tell me. You're a pawn now. You're my minion. You're under me," Luna said.

"To be honest, I'll tell you something. I thought you'd be a bit scared of me, that you'd show me some respect. When you came to my house, you saw how rich I was, how powerful I am. I thought you'd at least acknowledge that," Lorenzo said.

**"I won't lie. I did respect you because you were rich and had power. You had everything—a home, a mansion, just like ours. But the truth is, all of that respect disappeared the moment I found out you were in the Mafia.

"I knew. Before I even came to your house that day, I suspected. But now, I know more than I did back then.

"You work under my husband. You're his right-hand man,"** Luna said.

"How did you know that? That I'm his right-hand man? Who told you? How could you have known?" Lorenzo asked.

"I know many things about you all. I've been investigating," Luna said.

"You have to stop this investigation. You're going to get yourself into trouble. What do you mean, 'investigation'? You won't find anything in this house. Everything is locked. Matteo is careful about everything he does," Lorenzo said.

"There was a time he left the drawer open. That's when I saw everything I needed to see. And not just that—I already had my suspicions. I told you, I was watching you when you went to the restaurant. Even when you met with Jerry," Luna said.

Lorenzo was shocked. He couldn't believe it. How could a woman like her have been spying on them this whole time?

He was speechless, just staring at her.

"What is going on? How did this woman manage to track us without us even noticing?" he thought.

She had even followed them to the apartment building.

Lorenzo thought back. "Someone was spying on us… someone got into a taxi and drove off…" He was finally piecing it together.

"I'm telling you all this because I know you won't snitch. You won't go running to my husband. Because you know if you do…" Luna held up the picture again. "Look at this one more time. Remember your situation. If you do, you'll behave yourself and do everything I say. Do you understand?"

"Yes, I understand. But I'm going to tell you something—be ready for the underworld. And there's something you're going to have to stop.

You said you followed us? That was the worst choice you could have made. You could have died. You could have lost your life doing that. If an enemy had also been following us, trying to see where we were going, and they spotted you, they might have killed you on the spot.

"If it was someone who knows who Matteo is—because most people don't even know he's in the Mafia, let alone that he's the boss—but if someone did, and they knew you were his wife? If that person hated you, they would have killed you immediately.

"So, I'm just telling you—try to behave. It's very dangerous. Following me or Matteo, even stepping into that abandoned building, was the worst possible decision.

"I'm talking to you calmly and respectfully for one reason. And believe me, I don't usually speak to women with respect. Not even my own wife. I don't live a good life, I don't respect people. The only person I've ever respected is Matteo.

"He's told me many times to try and enjoy life. He's told me to care for my woman. But I can't. I'm only respecting you because you're Matteo's wife. And because of that phone in your hand.
