Chapter 2 - Moonlight Terror

As Matt navigated the forest in his new form, he let out a loud howl, a mix of fear, frustration, and confusion. The sound echoed through the trees, and unexpectedly, he heard a response ,a familiar howl, one that sent a shiver down his spine.

Caleb, Matt's brother, had heard his cry and was rushing to his aid. Caleb had been walking home from a long day at work, exhausted but preoccupied with thoughts of his brother's safety. When he heard Matt's howl, he knew something was wrong.

Without hesitation, Caleb transformed, his body shifting into a powerful werewolf. He sprinted through the forest, his senses heightened as he followed the sound of Matt's howl. As he approached his brother, he could see the confusion and fear in Matt's eyes.

Caleb positioned himself between Matt and the nearby human settlement, ensuring they wouldn't be spotted. He let out a series of calming growls and whines, trying to reassure Matt that he was there to help. Matt, still disoriented, slowly began to calm down, his breathing steadying as he looked at his brother.

Caleb guided Matt deeper into the forest, away from prying human eyes. As they moved, Caleb used a combination of body language and low growls to communicate with Matt, teaching him how to control his new form and navigate the supernatural world that had been hidden from him until now.

As the night began to close in , Matt began to understand the magnitude of his transformation. He was no longer just a high school student; he was a werewolf, bound to the lunar cycle and the rules of the pack. Caleb's guidance was crucial, but Matt couldn't shake the feeling that his brother knew more about the attack than he was letting on. Matt focused on learning to survive in his new skin.

Caleb's expression turned somber as he revealed the truth to Matt. "Matt, I need to tell you something. I'm the one who bit you that night. I lost control, and... I'm sorry."

Matt's eyes widened in shock and anger. "You're the one who did this to me? You're the one who killed my friends?" The pain and betrayal in his voice were palpable.

Caleb tried to explain, but Matt wouldn't listen. His anger boiled over, and he felt the familiar sensation of his body shifting. Before he knew it, he was in his wolf form, snarling and snapping at Caleb.

Caleb, anticipating Matt's transformation, shifted as well. The two brothers faced off in the living room, their wolf forms clashing in a fierce battle. Furniture shattered, and objects broke as they fought, their growls and snarls filling the air.

The fight was intense, with neither brother willing to back down. But as the struggle continued, Matt began to realize that Caleb wasn't fighting to hurt him, but to teach him how to control his newfound powers. The realization didn't calm Matt's anger entirely, but it gave him pause.

As they panted, locked in a fierce stare, Matt knew he needed answers. Why had Caleb done this to him? What did he hope to achieve? The questions swirled in his mind, and he knew he wouldn't rest until he had the truth.

Caleb, still panting from the intense fight, slowly shifted back into his human form. He approached Matt, who was still in his wolf form, and spoke in a calm, gentle tone, "Matt, it's okay. I'm here to help you. Let's talk about this."

Matt, still seething with anger and confusion, gradually regained control and shifted back into his human form. He stood facing Caleb, his eyes blazing with a mix of emotions.

Caleb began to explain, "Matt, I'm sorry for what happened. I lost control that night. I've been struggling with my own demons, and I didn't mean to hurt your friends. I had to protect you. You're the only family I have left, and I couldn't bear the thought of losing you."

Matt's anger and hurt were still raw, he listened intently, trying to understand his brother's motivations. "Why did you have to kill my friends?" he asked, his voice shaking with emotion.

Caleb's expression was filled with regret. "I didn't mean to hurt them, Matt. It was a full moon that night I was in a state of frenzy, and I couldn't control my shifts, I had to clear the evidence by ending any human who witnessed my transformation . I'm truly sorry for the pain I've caused you."

Matt's curiosity got the better of him, "Caleb, how did you get turned? And how long did it take you to control your shifts?" Matt asked his brother.

Caleb's expression turned introspective, and he began to recount his own story. "I was turned about 10 years ago, when I was in my early twenties. I was out hiking in the woods when I stumbled upon a rogue lycan. It attacked me, and I was bitten. The transformation was brutal, and it took me a while to adjust" He said.

Matt listened intently, eager to learn from his brother's experiences. "How long did it take you to control your shifts?" he asked.

Caleb thought for a moment before responding, "It took me about a year to get a handle on my transformations. But it wasn't just about controlling the shifts it was about understanding my new nature and learning to live with it. It's a process, Matt, and it's not always easy."

"Are there lots of werewolves out there?" Matt asked, his eyes wide with curiosity.

Caleb nodded. "Yes, there are. We're not alone, Matt. There are packs and rogue lycans out there. Some are friendly, while others are not.

Matt's mind was reeling with the implications. He had so many questions, but he knew he'd need time to process everything. For now, he was grateful to have his brother by his side, guiding him through this new reality.

Caleb's expression turned serious as he continued to explain the world of lycanthropes to Matt. "I'm also the leader of the Mooncrest pack." He said.

Matt's eyes widened in surprise. "The leader? What does that mean?" he asked, his curiosity piqued.

Caleb leaned in, his voice taking on a more formal tone. "As the leader, I'm responsible for guiding and protecting our pack. We have rules in place to ensure our safety and secrecy. We live by the Law of the Moon, which dictates our behavior during full moons and our interactions with humans."

Matt listened intently, eager to learn more about the pack's dynamics and expectations. "What are the rules?" he asked, his penchant for order and structure evident.

Caleb smiled, pleased that Matt was taking an interest in the pack's ways. "Our rules are simple yet crucial. We respect human territory, avoid unnecessary confrontations, and prioritize pack loyalty.

Matt nodded, taking it all in. He was beginning to understand the complexity of the lycanthrope world and the responsibilities that came with being part of a pack. He looked at Caleb with newfound respect, recognizing the weight of his brother's role as leader.

Caleb's expression turned solemn as he broached the subject. "Matt, there's another important rule to consider. In our pack, it's customary for lycans to mate with other lycans. It's a strict law, it's a tradition that's been passed down through generations."

Matt's brow furrowed in curiosity. "Why is that?" he asked.

Caleb hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "It's partly due to the risks involved in loving a human. Humans don't understand our world, and it can be... complicated. also, our kind has a strong instinct to protect our mates. When we mate with another lycan, it's a deeper connection, one that's rooted in our shared experiences and nature."

Matt nodded thoughtfully, beginning to understand the pack's perspective. "And what about loving a human? You said it's forbidden?" he asked, his tone neutral.

Caleb's voice took on a more serious tone. "It's strongly discouraged. Loving a human can put both the human and the lycan at risk. Humans can't comprehend our world, and it can lead to danger for both parties. Our pack's history has seen... unfortunate incidents."

Matt's mind was processing the information, weighing the pros and cons of the pack's rules and traditions. He looked at Caleb, sensing that there might be more to the story, but he didn't press the issue. For now, he was focused on learning and adapting to his new reality.
