Chapter 2 - Life Can Change In A Blink

'What will I eat today?' Khaos pondered as he headed towards his home.

'Should I try Guaculo? I heard it is a bit expensive, but it tastes delicious. They are made with Mud Whale's fat, Krimite Vines, and Cloud Glitter dough. Or should I try Mari Vuna…'

While Khaos was deep in thought, a pair of eyes was watching him from the shadows. Completely unaware, Khaos let his vigilance down.

The place Khaos lived was on the outer section of Batas City, where all the slums are located. Here, there was no such thing as law. If you have power, then you are the king.

Therefore, you have to be always cautious walking these streets. But Khaos, who was in a joyous mood after getting this much money in a long while, let his guard down.

The man hiding in the shadow pointed his finger at Khaos's heart. A soft red glow appeared on the tip of his finger before a ray of light shot out, piercing Khaos's heart.

"ARKK!"

Khaos screamed out loud before slamming the ground.

The passersby freaked out at the sudden killing, but no one came forward to help. Everyone went on their own way, completely wiping out what just happened in their minds.

'Fuck! Khaos, you stupid bitch. Why did you become so happy? Happiness is not for me. I can't be happy. I can't smile. I…I want to smile and…have friends to laugh with…' Khaos's eyes lost their color as his consciousness faded into darkness.

At that moment, a voice resounded in Khaos's mind. A deep, ancient speech, as if it was drifting through the river of time.

'Boy, you can't die yet. Someone has made a pact with me. So, you can't die yet. Yet there is a story to tell. Go, start your journey.'

Khaos didn't know why, but after that voice he felt vitality returning to his body. He began to feel every single part of his body.

Then his eyes shot open, revealing a white ceiling plastered with beautiful mosaics. He got up and found himself in a luxurious bed. He looked down and saw his chest bandaged where he was wounded deeply from the sudden attack.

"What happened? Where am I? Didn't I just die?" Khaos touched himself and went to the window. His eyes widened when he saw tall steel structures piercing through the skies and flying spaceships drifting through its edges.

"Is…is this the capital?" The capital Khaos speaks of was Batas City, as he only knows of such a mega foothold.

"Yes, you are. But before we talk, wear something decent. There is a lady with you in this room."

Khaos turned his head behind and found the source of this voice. A blonde woman sitting on the chair beside the bed. She had her legs and arms crossed while her eyes remained shut. Nonetheless, these couldn't stop her beauty from being hidden. Her smooth, white, textured face, sharp nose, lustering eyelashes, lips glistening in lipstick, and stoic face only added to her charm.

Khaos was a little mesmerized, as the women he had seen were all vulgar or wearing the most basic clothes possible, losing the charm he could feel over time. He has not seen a refined woman in his life.

"Hey! Are you listening? Quickly wear something, or I will break both of your legs with the third one too."

Khaos finally came to his senses before looking down. He was left dumbfounded to witness his completely bare body.

"Uhh, miss, what should I wear? I don't see any clothes around." Filled with shyness, Khaos asked the woman as he looked around the room.

The woman pointed at the door to the bathroom. "It's inside there. Go fast and change. There are pressing matters waiting for you."

Khaos nodded his head before entering the bathroom.

Just as Khaos entered, the woman softly whispered. 'How can someone like him deserve the glance of the mighty gods?'

After a while, Khaos came out wearing a blue t-shirt and black trousers. Khaos couldn't even ask anything, as the woman was already waiting outside the room.

"Come with me. There are many people waiting for you." The woman signaled him and went ahead.

Khaos quickly followed suit and caught up to her. As they walked along the narrow hallway, Khaos asked. "Miss, why am I here, and where are you taking me?"

The woman answered without looking back. "You are inside the headquarters of The Oasis Group. The only human organization stationed in Batas City. And you. You were but a dead person, dying on the streets of the slum. However, a sudden power spike occurred that alerted the entire city and especially the powerful organizations stationed here. They all headed towards the source of it and found out that it was from you. Despite getting shot at the heart, your body was still combusting with unbelievable vitality. So, a war among all the organizations broke out trying to take you. Wiping out half of the slum. To not cause further casualties, the higher-ups decided to have you choose your fate."

"This…" Khaos was overwhelmed by the information he just received. He didn't expect so many things to happen just because of him. He became a bit heartbroken thinking of all the people who died for him.

Finally, the woman looked back and spoke with annoyance. "What is with that look? Are you grieving for a few insignificant beings? There were many people from other races too. As a human, are you also grieving for them too?"

"Oi!" Khaos snapped as his face turned stern. "Don't teach me how I should feel. It is up to me who I should care for. I can care for people who died before me, or I also can't care for people who might die before me."

"Huh!" The woman was left stumped, not expecting Khaos to switch up like this, and his sentence also snapped the woman. "You haven't done your transcendence trail yet, and you are already so cocky. Higher-ups should give up on you. Humanity doesn't need an egoistic person like you!"

"Hey, what do you mean by transcendence trials? And why should I do it?" Instead of rebuking her, Khaos became confused.
