Chapter 3 - Chapter 1.5 Breaking in

Kiri: "How are we breaking in?" He scanned the area, hunting for an entrance.

Yumi: "No, no, no. We're already in the church. Wondering how? Follow me."

They slipped down the rear stairs of the hotel into a small garden. In the center stood a single, gnarled tree; not a blade of grass grew beneath its roots.

Kiri: "Is this what I think it is? The secret passage built for the bishop during the Great Massacre?"

Kiri: face going all worried "Plan's fine but how we gonna dig this up?"

Yumi: "That shed. I set it up. Now grab the tools and move."

Kiri: worry flips to pissed "You better pay extra and give me holidays if you want me swingin' a shovel."

Yumi: "Relax, I'm hustling for extra pay from the agency too. I've gotta dig the same as you. Besides, you're not the kind of guy who lets a woman sit back while he works." She muttered under her breath, "Kinda like that about you.

Kiri: "What was that?" He keeps shoveling.

Yumi: "Nothing. Anyway, you know the story of the massacre? The king wiped out every Christian here—said they were plotting a coup. Bloodiest night ever, over twenty‑five thousand dead. But the bishop saw it coming, dug this tunnel for himself, and bailed."

Kiri: "Yeah, because the bishop wanted his own followers dead too, right? Figured he could play the hero, rally more people, get help from other countries. And the king bro was straight‑up unstable, wasn't he?"

As they kept digging Yumi giggled.

Yumi: "King Bro."

Kiri: "King Bro… for some reason that sounds hilarious."

His shovel suddenly clanged against iron. A chill shot up his spine. Yumi burst into laughter.

Buried beneath the dirt was a thick metal door. They strained to budge it, but it wouldn't move an inch.

Kiri: grunting "So freaking heavy… won't budge." He threw his weight into it, muscles trembling.

Kiri: "I got this." He focused, voice steady as he spoke, "Feuer, vernehme meine Worte, verbrenne meine Feinde in glühender Raserei und zerschmettere sie mit unerbittlicher Macht!"

Yumi: "Hey, you remembered the spell! Nice."

Slowly, the metal door began to melt and warp, creating an opening.

Kiri: "Fuck you, by the way, for sending me to some godforsaken magic school in the middle of a spirit forest undercover.

Yumi: "Hey you learned magic, also the blessing…" as she forgets that kiri blessing Kiri: "My fucking cursed, I cant even talk proper now this fucking blessing? Taking strength from random body parts is not fun, you know?"

Kiri: "I can't see shit in here, mate." His voice echoed softly off the damp stone walls. The darkness pressed in, thick and suffocating.

Yumi: "Like I do?" she shot back, unfazed, stepping forward confidently.

They stumbled forward, silence broken only by their footsteps and distant drips of water. Then Kiri suddenly stopped, irritation flashing across his face.

Kiri: "Wait, you literally have a torch in your bag. How do you forget something like that?"

Yumi: She rummaged in her bag, pulling out the small flashlight. "Oh, it totally slipped my mind."

Kiri: He shook his head, a mix of disbelief and amusement in his voice. "Damn, you got dementia or something? This isn't exactly a walk in the park."

Yumi: "Now that you mention it... doesn't your magic draw strength from, like, random body parts? Like, totally random?"

Kiri gave her a look of pure disgust.

Kiri: "Yeah. One time, I overdid it and my lower body hurt so bad I couldn't sleep. Not the thighs. Not the legs. Somewhere... worse."

A long, awkward silence followed.

Yumi kept walking, suddenly very focused on the tunnel floor, clearly regretting bringing it up.

She muttered under her breath,

Yumi: "Okay... maybe too much info."

Unknown Voice: "Is the plan going according to the script?"

Unknown Voice 2: "Yes, my lord. They've taken the bait. They're headed straight for the pawns we planted."

Unknown Voice 2: "If they are as weak as we assumed, they'll vanish from this realm in an instant."

Long steps echoed through pure darkness, like wandering in the void carved deep in their hearts. No sound but their own breath. No light but the weight of memory. It felt endless—until a faint glow shimmered ahead.

Kiri: "Finally... light."

They paused, not just from exhaustion, but from the strange warmth creeping into their chests. In that tiny glow, they felt something close to hope.

But for someone else, that same light was no blessing.

Far ahead, past the flickering brightness, a muffled cry echoed. Chains rattled. The light wasn't saving, it was exposing. Burning. Torturing.

The hope they felt?

It wasn't meant for everyone.

A woman's voice cracked through the flicker of light, rough and hoarse, barely holding together.

She coughed hard, blood splashing onto the mossy cobblestones. The red soaked in fast like even the ground was used to it.

Woman (spitting, furious): "You... fucking scums. Try me a hundred times, I don't care. Break me, burn me. I'm not telling you shit about where my daughter is."

She hacked up more blood, face twisted in pain, eyes full of rage.

Woman (screaming): "YOU FUCKING MONSTERS!"

The walls didn't shake, but it felt like they should. That scream didn't just come from her throat. It came from somewhere deeper. Somewhere shattered.

Here's a polished, raw version that keeps the tone gritty and unfiltered:

Man (coldly): "Oh, don't worry, dear."

He stepped forward, dragging a glowing-hot metal rod behind him, the hiss echoing through the tunnel. In his other hand, a can of gasoline sloshed softly.

Man: "This won't be quick."

His voice didn't rise. It didn't need to. The quiet menace said everything.

The screams echo through the tunnel.

Kiri: "What the fuck was that?"

Yumi: "Come on, move! Hurry!"

But by the time they got to the torture cell, it was already too late. A woman hung limp in the center, her hands burned from below. The whole place reeked of scorched flesh, the stench thick and suffocating. The sight froze Yumi in place, eyes wide, words caught in her throat. Kiri just stared, stunned for a second.

Kiri: "That's bad. What the hell is going on here?"

He couldn't look away. Who the hell would do that to someone? He didn't get it. His thoughts ran wild. Why? Why her? Why is it like this?

Yumi: "That's the client…"

Kiri slowly turned his head and stared at her like she just said the dumbest thing he'd ever heard.

Kiri: "Are you fucking stupid or something? First, you drag me out here with no explanation. Then you make me trespass on church property. Then I have to watch someone get tortured and now you're telling me the client that hired you is dead?"

He folded his arms and looked away, clearly pissed.

Kiri: "Listen. I don't work for free. That's a corpse, not a paycheck. And it's not like I can ask God to tell her to pay her damn tab."

While they argued, something felt off, like the whole job had been fishy from the start. Suddenly, Yumi's phone rang. It was the higher-ups.

Voice on Phone: "Yumi, straight to the point. Get the girl out of there, the small one, held in the main hall."

The call cut off just like that.

They bolted up the stairs, footsteps echoing in the narrow stone hallway. The deeper they went, the heavier the air got, like the walls themselves were holding their breath.

Kiri: "Why the hell is there a kid in a place like this? And why do the heads already know about it?"

Yumi: "I don't know. Something's off… way off. Let's just find her. Fast."

She didn't sound confident anymore. Just scared.

Kiri: "I've seen this kinda setup before. Don't wanna see it again."

Yumi: "Yeah… me too."

They turned a corner, and suddenly everything felt wrong. The hallway ahead was lit, faint flickering light, like candles, and dead silent. No screams, no whispers. Just... silence.

Kiri: "This doesn't feel right."

Kiri: "Are we lost…? Or is this some kind of trap? I swear, if this turns into that kind of situation—"

A voice interrupted him. Cold. Mocking.

???: "Well, well... isn't it Yumi the coward.

Yumi: "No, you…"

Kiri: "Friend or foe?"

Yumi: "He's neither. That's Vagnieere."

Vagnieere: "So you remember my name. How honored I must feel."

He raises his musket.

"The thing you're after belongs to my master. And you're not taking it."

Kiri: "Is that a goddamn musket, old man? You know after one shot it's gonna take at least—"

A shot rings out, blasting a massive hole in the wall—no explosion, just pure force.

Vagnieere: "You dare insult me, mortal scum? I once shot the eye of a fish swimming in the sea—with my eyes closed."

Kiri: "Pretty sure he's got a superiority complex too."

They brace themselves, trying to figure out a way through.

Kiri (thinking):But this isn't gonna work. I don't have the power to take on a master-level freak like him, and Yumi can't do much offensively either.

If she could just take one hit, just one shot, we might have a chance. But a hit like that? There's no surviving it. I don't think we're making it out of this alive. What will Yumi is thinking?

Yumi: "After we beat you, we're getting a beer."

Kiri: "Well... fuck…"
