The frost was growing stronger. Sona walked slowly down the empty street. Her hands were frozen. The cold had rendered her lips immobile. Moments of recent events spun around in her head. The fall. The rescue. The white face. The incredibly beautiful eyes. The smile. The trash... On the head... On Yoongi's head. She would never forget the look on his face as he picked banana peels and shredded pieces of office paper out of his hair. She was so embarrassed that she was afraid to look him in the eye.
While her bandmates helped Yoongi remove the remaining trash from his hair, Sona hurried between the buildings as quickly as possible. The boy didn't have time to come to his senses before the girl he had just saved was gone.
"Why? ... Why is this happening to me?" She stopped in the middle of the road. "Yaah!" She grabbed her head, messing up her hair. But she quickly came to her senses and continued on her way home.
It was quiet at home; even the TV was off. Her mother had been asleep in her room for a while. Mina sprawled across the bed and had her tenth dream. She was tired, but she didn't feel like sleeping.
After making herself some ramen, she sat down at the table to eat. Thoughts were still buzzing in her head, and her heart was beating faster than usual. When she remembered the trash on her savior's head, she immediately blushed with embarrassment. This feeling would haunt her for a long time.
Yoongi had just arrived at the dormitory. Tired from a hard day, he went to the bathroom to take a shower. Jin was cooking dinner in the kitchen while Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook played like children in their room. They never seemed to get tired. They were the only ones with energy left at the end of the day.
As soon as Namjoon arrived home, he sat down at his laptop and listened to the songs he had recorded in the studio that day. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Hoseok sat with his older hyung. While Jin cooked ramen, Hoseok talked about how long it had been since he had eaten his mother's cooking and how much he missed home. Yoongi joined them, and Hoseok immediately changed the subject.
"Hyung, you weren't yourself today," Tonsen said. "You saved the girl so heroically."
"What?" Yoongi was surprised. "No, not at all. You would have done the same in my place," the boy replied calmly.
"Hmm, I don't know. I got the impression that you two know each other."
"No, we don't," Yoongi said nervously.
"And I thought you knew her. I noticed how you smiled at her," Jin confirmed.
"Not at all. It's me... from the pain of the fall," the boy denied.
"The ramen is ready," the eldest hyung called, inviting everyone to the table.
The three tonsens quickly ran to the kitchen.
"What were we talking about?" Jimin asked cheerfully as he sat down between Hoseok and Yoongi.
"We're trying to get the truth out of Yoongi," Hoseok explained. "Hyung and I claim that he knows that girl, but he denies everything."
"Ah, the one he saved today?" Taehyung clarified. "I also noticed Yoongi's strange behavior." He glanced at the boy slyly. Yoongi just looked away silently.
"So you know her?" Namjoon asked, settling into a chair.
"I don't know her," Yoongi replied with a slight smile. "I've seen her a few times in our building, and that's all."
"Ooooh, there's your answer," Hoseok exclaimed. "She's pretty," he remarked.
"Careful, the ramen is still hot," Jin warned as he set dinner on the table.
All seven of them pounced on the food, stuffing their faces. They talked for a long time. When the clock struck one in the morning, they finally went to bed.
Yoongi couldn't fall asleep for a long time. He couldn't stop thinking about the girl's beautiful eyes, and he no longer cared about the trash on his head. Thoughts of her had been haunting him for days, and he wanted to see her again and finally get to know her.
Reaching into his jacket pocket, he pulled out a smartphone that wasn't his. He swiped the screen and saw a photo of the girl. When they fell, both of their phones fell out of their pockets. Everything happened so fast that Yoongi didn't notice he had picked up the girl's phone.
"What is this?" Fate or coincidence? Or maybe just a chance occurrence that could happen to anyone?" For a long time, the boy asked himself these questions while flipping through the photos of the stranger who made his heart beat faster.
Sona had to sleep on the floor in the living room. Her younger sister didn't leave her any space on their shared bed. But sleep wouldn't come. She decided to listen to music to help her fall asleep faster but was surprised to find someone else's phone in her jacket pocket.
She immediately realized that she must have picked up her rescuer's phone off the ground and that he now had her phone. He had undoubtedly already looked through all her photos, good and bad. Oh no! There were embarrassing photos of her and her sister painting their faces with their mother's makeup.
"Ugh! Why am I being punished like this?" She pulled a sour face at yet another failure. Maybe I should text him and ask him not to look at the photos. But then he'll definitely look at them. Ugh!" She didn't know what to do. But she had nothing to lose. "I'll text him and ask him to return the phone."
"Good evening," she began typing the message. "Today we accidentally mixed up our phones, so I'd like to ask you to return it. P.S. Please don't look at my photos." The screen lit up with "Sent."
Sona held back for a long time, but her curiosity got the better of her. She didn't hesitate. She unlocked the phone. The screen lit up with a screensaver displaying Japanese text. She opened the menu. She rummaged through all the folders. She looked through the photos. When she got to the music folder, she was interrupted by the sound of a new message. Her heart raced. She opened it.
Yoongi:
"Hi, I just realized that we mixed them up. I'll bring them back tomorrow. P.S. I didn't look at the photos." "
"Why aren't you sleeping at this hour?" Another message came in.
Sona:
"I'll never forget what happened today," the girl wrote in reply.
"I'm sorry."
"Um... thank you... for saving me."
Yoongi:
"It's okay. Always happy to help." "
"You have good music," he remarked.
"You've probably already rummaged through my phone, so turn on track #27. It's my favorite."
Sona:
"Not at all."
"I didn't rummage through your phone."
"I just looked through a few folders."
"Play track 27 on my phone."
Yoongi put on his headphones. Imagine his surprise when he heard his favorite song, number 27, playing on her phone. His lips stretched into a smile, and his heart filled with sweet feelings again.
They both closed their eyes and enjoyed the music. Sleep slowly began to take hold, but the boy still had enough strength to write one last message to the girl.
"Good night," he wrote, but Sona was already asleep, so there was no reply.
Today, Yoongi slept well for the first time.
