Chapter 20 - Chapter 19: The Market of Many Worlds

The Starship of Ashes soared across the cosmic sea, its hull aglow with the Worldheart's light. Beyond the moon of Asterium lay a new horizon—one that pulsed with the promise of discovery.

Anaya's eyes sparkled as she studied the ley lines ahead. "We're approaching the Locus—the Market of Many Worlds."

Vaelin raised an eyebrow. "A market? Out here in the void?"

Akira smiled faintly. "Not just any market. The echoes speak of it—a crossroads where traders from every galaxy gather. Where memories are currency, and even time itself is for sale."

🌠 Arrival at the Locus

The ship slipped through a shimmering rift, and the Market of Many Worlds unfurled before them—a tapestry of floating platforms, each alive with colors and sounds from countless civilizations.

Crystalline bridges spanned rivers of stardust, and traders in robes of light hawked wares that shimmered like the dreams of dying suns.

Vaelin whistled low. "I've seen markets in a thousand worlds, but nothing like this."

Anaya adjusted her staff, her eyes watchful. "Be careful. The Locus is ancient—and its bargains always carry a price."

🌌 The Echo Traders

They landed on a floating platform of polished obsidian, where a figure in a cloak of shifting nebulae greeted them with a flourish.

"Welcome, travelers!" the figure sang, their voice like music in the void. "I am Mezar, Keeper of Echoes. What do you seek? Memory? Power? A shard of forever?"

Akira stepped forward, the Worldheart's light steady in his hand. "We seek knowledge. The Sorrowed Court hunts us, and we must learn how to stand against them."

Mezar's eyes glimmered like distant stars. "Knowledge is a precious echo indeed. Come—there are many who would trade it for the right price."

🌠 A Bargain of Memories

As they walked the market's winding paths, Akira felt the pull of a thousand echoes—each one a story, a life, a world.

A trader with eyes of molten silver offered Vaelin a blade forged from the breath of supernovas. A weaver of starlight tried to tempt Anaya with a cloak that would let her walk unseen through the echoes.

But it was an old woman, her face lined with constellations, who stopped Akira in his tracks. "Starborn… your light calls to me. Will you trade a memory for a vision of what is to come?"

Akira hesitated. "What memory would you take?"

She smiled, her voice soft as starlight. "The memory of your first echo—the one that made you who you are."

Anaya touched his arm. "Akira… you don't have to."

But Akira nodded. "If it brings us closer to the truth… I will pay."

🌌 A Glimpse of Tomorrow

The old woman laid her hands on his temples, and the world fell away.

He saw himself—a thousand echoes of himself—standing at the heart of creation, the Worldheart's light blazing in his chest. Around him, the echoes sang of unity and division, of harmony and conflict.

In the shadows, the Sorrowed Court waited—an endless hunger that would not be denied.

But he also saw hope: a circle of starlight, a bridge of echoes reaching across the abyss. And he knew, in that moment, that the echoes were more than voices—they were the breath of all who had ever dared to dream.

🌠 The Memory's Price

Akira gasped as the vision faded. The old woman stepped back, her eyes kind. "The path is never certain, Starborn. But the echoes will sing as long as you believe in them."

Vaelin's voice was low. "What did you see?"

Akira looked at them all—his friends, his family in the stars. "A chance. A choice. And the promise that even in the darkness… the echoes will endure."

🌌 A Warning in the Shadows

As they prepared to leave, Mezar appeared again, his expression grave. "Starborn… the Sorrowed Court hunts this place too. Their shadows slip through the cracks of the market."

Anaya frowned. "The Court's reach grows faster than we thought."

Akira's gaze was hard. "Then we'll be faster. We'll gather what we need and be gone before their shadow falls."

Vaelin's hand tightened on her blade. "Let them come. The echoes will stand."

🌠 Departure

The Starship of Ashes lifted from the market, its hold now filled with echoes of knowledge and secrets long hidden.

Akira stood at the helm, the Worldheart's light burning steady in his chest. "We have what we need. Now we prepare for the next step."

Anaya's eyes were bright with determination. "The echoes are with us, Akira. And we will not let the Sorrowed Court take them."

Vaelin grinned, fierce and unwavering. "Let them hear our echoes—and let them tremble."
