Chapter 38 - Splitting Up

As the duo entered the hallway, they saw a busted fence door. Michelle hummed a bit. "With the hands, I can pull the busted bars and squeeze through," she said before looking at CatNap. "You, however..."

CatNap approached the busted gate, claws extended, before grabbing the upper part of it. Soon after, CatNap tore the gate off before setting it to the side. "That works too," Michelle said before the duo walked forward.

Michelle looked at the fenced console at the center. "You probably open the other cell blocks..." she said, lowly. Soon after, the phone started ringing, which made Michelle grab it. "Ollie?" she asked.

Soon after, the duo heard static. "—you hear— Too much interfer— Make your way to— There's something— —octor is—" the phone cut off.

Michelle sighed a bit as she hung the phone on one of the hooks. "I'm guessing that's the Doctor's doing," she said. "What even is his deal?"

CatNap remained silent before looking down. "HE CREATED US..." he said, lowly. Michelle turned to CatNap. "He created you?" she asked.

When Michelle realized it, her eyes widened. "Wait... he's the reason you and the others..." she said. "He's responsible for the Bigger Bodies Initiative?"

CatNap slowly nodded. "HIS REAL NAME IS DOCTOR HARLEY SAWYER..." he said. "HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXPERIMENTS BEFORE HE BECAME ONE HIMSELF..." Michelle looked at the smaller TV screens in the fenced area. "I see..." she said, lowly.

Michelle looked at CatNap. "Then let me ask you this... is he even worth saving?" she asked. CatNap growled, and his ears pointed back. "NO..." he said.

Michelle nodded. "Then I agree with you," she said, which made CatNap look at her. "Once we regroup back at this Safe Haven, we'll need to come up with a plan to deal with this bastard."

CatNap looked down a bit before lying on the ground. "WILL THEY... ACCEPT ME...?" he asked. Michelle stared at CatNap before approaching him and placing her hands against his cheeks, which made him look at her. "I'll admit, it'll be difficult..." she said.

Michelle gently smiled at CatNap. "But... I'll do everything I can to convince the others that you're on our side and not the Prototype's," she continued. CatNap stared at Michelle before closing his eyes and purring. "THANK YOU, ANGEL..." he said.

Michelle smiled before glancing at the fenced console; after she removed her hands, she approached it.

As Michelle entered, she saw a few openings and the warden's office at the back; she looked up and saw an empty slot. "There's gotta be something that can open the warden's office..." she said before walking forward.

As Michelle entered the office on the left, she spotted an emblem on the desk. "Knowing this company, they probably made fakes," she said before pulling the left trigger.

The blue hand grabbed the emblem before retracting it. "I'll drop these in the hallway and see which one is the real one," she continued before entering the opposite room. Soon after, Michelle spotted the emblem in the room and pulled the right trigger.

The red hand grabbed the emblem before retracting; when Michelle was in the hallway, she pulled the triggers, which made both hands let go of the emblems.

Michelle entered the far right room and looked around; when she reached the desk, she saw a note in the chair, which made her pick it up.

Michelle read the note. "It's a journal from one of those bastard guards..." she said. "Apparently, this Cole guy used to be a 'Resource Extraction Specialist'... whatever the hell that means..."

As Michelle read the note, she was shocked. "I had no idea he lost people close to him..." she continued. "And while others got a pat on the back and placed in areas that didn't deal with the toys, he was reassigned to a 'Shelf Keeper'... that's a fancy way of saying a prison guard."

Soon after, Michelle laid the note on the desk. "He may be just as bad as this company, but... he might not have been as bad as the others," she said before leaving the room.

When Michelle entered the opposite room, she spotted an emblem on the office chair before pulling the left trigger. The blue hand grabbed the emblem before retracting.

As Michelle left the room, she looked at the warden's office broken door window before approaching it. As Michelle looked through the broken door window, she saw that the symbol in the back matched the emblem in the blue hand.

Michelle looked at the emblem with a chuckle. "So you were the real one all this time; so typical for the company," she said before aiming at the empty slot and pulling the left trigger. The blue hand placed the emblem in the slot, which opened the door.

As Michelle entered the room, she spotted a yellow VHS tape on the desk. Michelle approached the desk and picked up the tape. "What do you have?" she asked herself.

Michelle turned to the back and saw a TV with a yellow VHS player under it, which made her approach it. After Michelle put the tape inside the player, she looked at the screen as it booted up.

Soon after, Michelle heard sirens coming from the TV. "Oh God, no no no no no," a man said in a panic. Michelle crossed her arms. "I'm guessing that's the Warden himself..." she said.

Soon after, Michelle heard a door close in the background. "Warden?" the Doctor asked. "Doctor! Doctor, what's going on?! What's happening, it's—" the Doctor sighed. "Yes... yes, I can hear it."

The Doctor hummed. "They've staged quite the rebellion... remarkable, 1006," he continued before chuckling. "How could this happen? There's failsafes. Security measures. They... it's impossible..." the Warden said.

"Personal agendas have long been the downfall of this company. Is it unreasonable to believe there were conspirators? Playtime is filled with vipers and backstabbers," the Doctor said.

"But... but without executive access... how could anyone even get through?" the Warden asked. "Leith, Stella, Eddie... only the four of us have that kind of clearance."

Michelle was annoyed and looked away with her arms crossed. "Of course that asshole would have a way of escaping this place..." she said, lowly. "Does any of that matter now? It's your life you have to protect," the Doctor said. "You have executive access."

Michelle was shocked and looked at the TV. "For all the good it does me! Opening a door at a time won't get me to the exit, not with those THINGS everywhere," the Warden said.

Michelle heard the Warden sigh. "You didn't see what I saw. You didn't see the trail of limbs down the hall, didn't hear the things eating. The... the wet crunches of bones... God, I..." he continued.

Michelle was concerned. "There is... something you can do, Warden. I can help you," the Doctor said. "How? You're stuck in there. You can't—" the Doctor interrupted him. "My body's here, sure... but my mind..." The Warden sounded shocked. "What?" he asked.

"The Omni-Hand... if you give it to me, I can get you anywhere. I'll have control over everything," the Doctor said. "I can shut some doors, open others. I can make you a pathway that leads right to the exit." Michelle shook her head. "I wouldn't take a deal like that..." she said, lowly.

"I don't... I don't know..." the Warden said, lowly. "If you want to wait to get torn to pieces, that's your prerogative, but look at your immediate options, Warden. What choice other than this gets you out of here alive?" the Doctor asked.

"I'm giving you the tool. Just get me out of here. Please," the Warden said. "Of course... you've made a smart decision, Warden," the Doctor said. "I promise I'll get you out of here safe and sound."

When the TV turned off, Michelle stared at it. "Something tells me he backstabbed him after he got what he wanted..." she said before leaving the Warden's office.

CatNap looked at the back as Michelle approached the consoles. "DID YOU FIND ANYTHING...?" he asked. Michelle sighed. "Just a journal log and a video between the Doctor and the Warden; nothing too glamorous," she said before looking at the red hand scanner.

Before Michelle could do anything, CatNap approached the far left fence gate. "ALLOW ME TO GO THROUGH HERE..." he said. Michelle looked at CatNap. "Is there a reason for this?" she asked.

CatNap remained silent before looking away. "I SMELL BLOOD AND DECAY AROUND HERE..." he said. Michelle felt squeamish before looking away. "Very well..." she said, lowly. CatNap grabbed the gate with his claws before tearing it and setting it to the side.

As CatNap entered, he saw a door to the left before slashing at the wall, which destroyed it. CatNap saw corpses littered around the hallway before walking forward.

As CatNap turned to the right, he saw a pile of corpses hanging by metal bars, broken fence pieces, and a small gap. CatNap walked forward. "NO HUMAN SHOULD SEE THIS... ESPECIALLY ANGEL..." he said, lowly.

CatNap pushed the metal debris and hanging corpses out of the way before walking forward. When CatNap looked down, he saw a red keycard next to a corpse on the left.

CatNap carefully picked up the red keycard. "THIS WILL BE USEFUL TO ANGEL..." he said before wrapping it around his tail and walking away. As Michelle looked at the console, she heard footsteps, which made her turn her head to the left.

Michelle saw CatNap approach her. "Find anything?" she asked. CatNap held the red keycard out with his tail. "ONLY THIS..." he said. Michelle took the red keycard. "Nice find," she said before putting it in the center console.

Soon after, another red scanner is activated; Michelle aimed at it before pulling the right trigger, launching the red hand at the scanner.

As the red hand started scanning, Michelle caught a glimpse of the Doctor on one of the TV screens before he disappeared, which concerned her.

Soon after, the gates on the left started opening. After Michelle went through the gates, CatNap destroyed them before following her.

As the duo entered, the vault door behind them closed, which made them look at it. "Well... if it's anything like the other prison block, there should be a control room with a keypad; let's find a way to get in it," Michelle said.

CatNap nodded as they walked forward. After Michelle crouched under some debris and walked forward, CatNap stepped over it. Alarms started going off, which shocked the duo and made them look around.

Soon after, Red Smoke started filling the room. "Don't fight... fighting will only make it work quicker," the Doctor said. Michelle quickly covered her mouth with her hands. "Damn it! Not good!" she shouted.

CatNap quickly picked Michelle up and placed her on his back. "TRY TO HOLD YOUR BREATH A LITTLE LONGER..." he said. Michelle nodded as CatNap started slashing at the fencing nearby. When CatNap made a large hole, he leaped down and looked around.

Michelle tried looking around, but her vision started getting blurry. Soon after, Michelle spotted a busted pipe with a missing valve. "We need to find the valve," she said before she started coughing.

CatNap nodded before sprinting forward; when he spotted debris, he cleared it away with his claws. Soon after, CatNap spotted a room ahead and sprinted forward. Soon after, Michelle started hearing things. Hurry, CatNap... she thought.

As CatNap entered the room and looked around, Michelle spotted a note on a desk before grabbing the left trigger and pulling it. The blue hand grabbed the note before retracting.

Michelle grabbed the note off the blue hand and looked at it. This one is a weekly checkup on Experiment 1424; the poor thing was disconnected from its surroundings and had all these conditions, including catalepsy and memory loss, she thought, before dropping it to the ground.

When CatNap turned his head to the right, he spotted the valve, which made him grab it and sprint back. When CatNap was close to the broken pipe, he placed the valve in the missing spot before quickly twisting it.

After the pipe was fixed, they saw a red hand scanner. Michelle grabbed the right trigger and pulled it, launching the red hand to the scanner.

After the scanner finished, Michelle saw that the colors around her started going inverted. CatNap quickly placed Michelle on the ground. "GET TO THE ROOM ABOVE... HURRY...!" he shouted.

Michelle nodded before sprinting up the stairs. Soon after, Michelle entered the room and closed the door behind her before gasping. Michelle tried catching her breath. "That was... way too close for comfort..." she said, lowly.

As Michelle looked around the room, she spotted a cutout of a petite pink slime toy with a cutesy smile, axolotl frills on her cheeks, and an axolotl tail with her left arm raised. Michelle stared at the cutout. "Is that..." she said, lowly, before approaching it.

When Michelle was close to the cutout, she pressed the button. "Hiya! I'm Suzy! I slime like I mean it!" it said. Michelle pressed the button again. "Have you met my friend Doey? He can ooze his way into your heart," it continued before giggling.

Michelle pressed the button again. "I'm all about that goo-d life... get it? Because I'm goopy..." it said. Michelle pressed the button. "I might be a little messy, but it's slime well spent," it continued.

Michelle pressed the button again. "If you stick with me, I brighten any gloomy day with glee," it said. When Michelle pressed the button again, she heard a broken toy theme song before it faded.

Michelle stared at the cutout. "I'm so close to finding you and your brother, Katie... just wait for a little longer..." she said.

When Michelle turned around, she saw a calendar in the distance. "The last one had the code in the form of a Hangman game on a whiteboard," she said before approaching it. "What do you hold?"

When Michelle was close, she saw a few letters on different days; when she looked down, she saw a sticky note. Michelle crouched to the note. "Check the CAGE..." she said, lowly.

When Michelle looked at the calendar, she saw an 'E' on Tuesday, a 'C' on Wednesday, a 'G' on Thursday, and an 'A' on Saturday. Michelle stood properly and followed the numbers that spelled cage. "3-6-4-2... that's my code," she said before approaching the main console.

When Michelle was close to the keypad, she typed the code, which made the case for the red button open. When Michelle pressed the button, alarms started going off before the room started siphoning the Red Smoke.

When the Red Smoke was gone, alarms started going off, and the room started shaking, which made Michelle look around. Red Smoke started filling the left side, which made Michelle look at it before backing away.

Soon after, the glass shattered before the Red Smoke was completely gone, which made Michelle sigh in relief. As the vault door on the other side opened, CatNap got on the upper floor and approached the glass. "ANGEL..." he said.

Michelle looked at CatNap through the glass. "I'm OK, buddy," she said before looking around. "But it looks like I can't find a way for you to come to this side." CatNap was concerned. "WHAT NOW...?" he asked.

Michelle thought of something and looked at CatNap. "You track down the others while staying out of the Doctor's sight; I'll find a different path, and we'll rendezvous at Safe Haven," she said.

CatNap stared at Michelle before nodding. "VERY WELL... BE CAREFUL..." he said. Michelle nodded. "Likewise," she said; CatNap nodded before running toward the back and leaving the area.

Michelle looked at the broken window. "Time to get out of this place," she said before approaching it.
