"Do you want to speak to her?" he asked, "your mother?"
And my eyes, as if triggered by his spoken words, widened in response.
As tears moved out, running wild, feeling like an ocean.
"Please," my voice could only whisper, as I rubbed my face with the edges of my raised knees. "Please bring her back."
And he moved, standing up, as the stone he was sitting on fell flat to where it once was, returning to the ground it once belonged—as if it had served its duty.
He moved his figure as his movements walked slow, his posture positioned as if every step spoke purpose.
And in seconds, he reached the corpse—one which I once called mother.
Kneeling and bending to where she lay, he extended a finger—as it transformed into a large, piercing fang.
It was large—far larger than what one would expect.
As it pursued her drained skin, darkened red blood spilled out.
But as if it had been drained—it stopped its movement, a reflection indicating its last drop.
"I can only bring her back for a moment," he said, his voice deep yet holding some type of untainted conviction.
Then he moved his monstrous finger—opened his mouth and placed the blood on his tongue.
He closed his eyes slowly as if embracing its taste—and a faint smile appeared on his lips, but it disappeared with swiftness, it was fast—too fast to the point that even I didn't know how I noticed.
Standing up, he placed his gaze on my figure.
"You have two minutes," he spoke, and then, as if risen by his command, the shadows twisted from the darkness, red light radiating with their form.
Then I saw her.
My mother.
Even though she was nothing but shadow.
Even though the shadow seemed to show nothing but form,
I still noticed.
"Mom."

{Plane to Chicago leaving in 3 minutes}
The notification from the airline interrupted the meeting, perhaps rendering the atmosphere awkward and somewhat—out of place.
Vlad, Bella, and Charlie were looking dead straight into each other's eyes.
"Boyfriend?" Charlie asked, his words ever so curious, as his expression turned to one so questioning and surprised.
"No…" Bella tried to speak.
"I'm Vlad, your daughter has told me a lot of things about you, sir," yet Vlad interrupted as he grabbed Charlie's hand, giving him a firm handshake.
"No… his—"
"Strong grip," Charlie replied, and judging from his expression, it didn't seem like it was intended to be a compliment, "surprising considering how you look."
"Well, you know what they say about small packages," he joked.
"Vlad, stop!" Bella shouted in surrender. "Charlie, he's not my boyfriend."
"Huh…" Charlie looked confused with Bella's words, and for a second, it seemed as if he was beginning to accept Vlad as his new son-in-law—or at least it seemed.

"So… same city, going to the same destination, planning to attend the same school," Charlie's voice rang loud as he drove his car through the passing freeway.
"Never thought I would see such a coincidence in real life," he shook his head as he looked at the passing air blades made by cars.
"Well, it's not that surprising considering that anyone who would wanna leave behind Phoenix is probably looking for some place that doesn't have sunlight," Bella unknowingly spoke out.
"Yeah, but Forks… it's not that common," he replied, his gaze still locked at the oncoming road.
"You know, Mr. Swan, you really didn't have to…"
"Don't mention it," Charlie shot back, "no offense, but finding out that you aren't dating Bella… is enough."
"Huh!" Vlad couldn't help but take offense from his words. Until Bella, who for some reason was sitting in the back seat right next to him, softly reassured him that it was only a joke.

"Can you please not point that at me," Vlad's voice whispered loudly, as his eyes looked at Bella, who was apparently holding a cactus for some unknown reason.
"Why do you even have that?" His words couldn't help but ask, as its sharp, green, tiny nature was making him feel somewhat uncomfortable.
And she chuckled, "It's a present from my mother," and Vlad's eyes couldn't help but notice Charlie looking back through the rearview mirror after her words.
"Yeah, just put it in your bag or something."
___{Time skip}
"Are you sure this is it?" Charlie couldn't help but grow concerned as he looked at the building that seemed almost abandoned.
"There used to be rumors that the house is haunted, and you wanna stay there?"
"Yep," Vlad simply replied, his smile seeming almost too white to be normal, yet even with its perfection—it retained the uncomfortable uneasiness it brought.
"Okay."
Vroom!
Charlie's car swiftly drove off.
But before Vlad could even process what had happened,
Rumble!
It reversed back to where it once stood.
"Em, Bella wanted to say goodbye."
Vlad laughed slightly as he saw the occurrence.
"See you at school, Vlad."
"Yeah, see you there."
Then it drove, leaving Vlad, who stood near an abandoned home rumored to have ghosts, a home which was now his only inheritance.
Creak-kreee!
The house's door rang loud as he opened its old opening.
The inside was clean, which seemed to be the opposite of its outside exterior.
Double-story apartment with only one room to sleep in.
What more could a teen who left home on his own expect.
So he stepped inside.
And immediately, he couldn't help but acknowledge the freezing cold temperature that even made his vampiric body shiver with its breeze.
And his eyes, as if expecting it, gained sight of a note which was left pasted on the black flat-screen TV, its ink written in red, as if painted with blood.
And its front was only marked with three effective words,
(To my descendant)
___
(If you are reading this—it only means that I am dead.
Which for you, can either be a good thing, or a bad one.
By this, I'm assuming it is the second, since because of my death, you are fated to exist as a blood-sucking leech for the rest of your eternity, hahah.
Anyways, this house is the only thing I can leave behind—since I'm actually broke.
And yes, you are not allowed to wonder how a vampire like me, who has lived for thousands of decades, is poor, all I can say is—it is none of your business.
Ohh, almost forgot, don't mind the cold—it's just a spell that keeps away beings or people who are uninvited—just turn it off.
So yeah—good luck.)
Vlad couldn't help but sigh as he read through its details, he even read through it twice to make sure that he took note of everything.
"Shit, this guy really was broke," he surrendered as he dropped his body on a sofa that stood close to his once-standing body, lying down as he prepared himself for a deep sleep.
Sleep caused by the comfort of a sofa so old and neat.
