"All alphas are beasts, ready to chew and swallow anything they like. It is their nature to devour and dominate. So, Lea, would you become your cousin's shield and protect her fragile self? After all, unlike her fragile omega self, you are strong. Please, protect her and take her place."
Emelia looked at her aunt's smiling face before she followed the path that would lead her to the mansion secluded in the woods.
The main reason the Heinsberg mansion was located so deep and out of human civilization was to contain the crazy alpha in case an accident happened.
So far, nothing had happened. But just because nothing happened up until now did not mean the chances of it not happening in the future were zero.
Emelia followed the path that took her to the mansion, but she could sense that someone was keeping an eye on her the whole time.
Maybe it was her paranoia, but she somehow made it all the way to the mansion without giving in to her desire to run away, and she rang the doorbell.
That was when the beautiful warden welcomed Emelia inside, and the rest was history.
After the hectic morning, Emelia decided to look around the mansion to check if anyone else was in here or not at the moment.
From what information Emelia had been able to gather, there were three people who currently lived in the Heinsberg mansion.
The first one was the eldest of the powerful political family, Kim Sehyun, and he was 28. He was sent here when he first showed signs of his curse at the age of 10 and had been here the longest.
The second was from the famous family of actors, Eric Smith. He was the oldest one in the mansion, and from what Emelia had been able to gather, had only been here for about five years.
Somehow, his family had managed to hide the signs of his curse all that time and had only decided to send him when the information somehow leaked out.
The last person in the mansion was named Liam Piers, and he was 24 years old. That was all Emelia knew about him.
For some reason, no matter how much she tried to search for the name, nothing came up. It was as if the man did not exist outside this mansion.
"Well, I will meet them all soon enough. There is no point in thinking too much about it."
Emelia sighed as she looked at the mansion.
She might have come here and accepted her job, but that did not mean she knew what she was doing. After all, she had been given no instructions other than to be the warden and to look after the place.
But despite this, her common sense told her that she would be more akin to a nanny than a warden.
This place was out of records, and that also meant that people could not be employed here too frequently.
It fell on Emelia to look after the place.
"I don't see any servants around, and this place is massive. Despite that, it's clean and looks well-maintained. Did the previous warden do this? How did she manage that? Was she some kind of supernatural being or something?"
Emelia complained as she walked further.
The longer she spent inside the mansion, the calmer she felt about being here. It also made her drop her tenseness, and she was able to relax.
Unfortunately, it also meant that her stomach rumbled due to the lack of food.
Emelia almost wanted to say something about this being a highly inappropriate time for this to happen, but she was not able to due to her stomach rumbling.
She decided to head to the kitchen first. She found the kitchen without much time wasted and found that breakfast had been prepared.
There was a note left behind by someone, likely the one who made the food. It was a note for her that said:
[If the new warden found this note, then make sure to check in with Sehyun. He will give you the list of instructions about your duties and what to do about this.]
The note seemed simple enough, but somehow, Emelia felt a shiver go down her spine when she read it.
Somehow, she felt like she was falling into a trap.
She left the note alone and quickly prepared a new batch of food for herself. She was not sure whether she was allowed to eat the food especially prepared for the alphas.
Emelia finished preparing her food when she felt the alpha pheromones in the air rising up. She felt her senses sharpen, and her eyes turned to look at the entry of the kitchen.
The person who walked in had black hair and black eyes and a handsome face. He looked like a movie star and had a charming smile on his face as well.
But despite how he looked, Emelia had a feeling that she was looking at a predator who was about to eat her alive. Just looking at him made her instincts rise up.
'I am not supposed to act like this. I am a beta, so the alpha pheromones should not affect me like this. Don't tell me… is his pheromones strong enough to even get through the classification barrier?'
Usually, alpha pheromones could not be felt by betas or omegas, but Emelia was a special case.
Maybe it was because she was raised in a household of alpha-omegas, or maybe it was just because she was sensitive, but she could feel the pheromones around her.
But when she tried to tell the others about this, she mostly got made fun of. Some even called her weird for that.
Over time, Emelia had learned to use them as her weapon, to harness them and use them to her advantage.
But this time, things felt different. It felt as if her body was working against her and trying to make her fall.
Sehyun's eyes shined as they looked at her and dominated her being. Emelia's breath hitched as her instincts told her to submit and show that she was not in control.
'Tsk, I cannot allow this to dominate me. I have faced worse. These pheromones might be strong, but I will not bow down to them.'
Emelia kept her gaze pointed toward Sehyun, and her eyes looked fierce. She was letting him know that she would not back down, no matter what.
Sehyun did not turn his head away, but he did blink, and after a whole minute, he pulled his pheromones back.
"I apologize for startling you. My name is Kim Sehyun. I did not accidentally hurt you, did I? I usually keep tight control over my pheromones, but sometimes, they do slip out. Like they did right now. Now, may I know who you are?"
As Emelia expected, the person in front of her was Kim Sehyun. She had seen his picture before, but the man in front of her was much more handsome.
However, despite how charming he was, Emelia could not forget the reality of what just happened.
She took in a deep breath before she extended her hand toward him.
"My name is Emelia Heinsberg, and I am the new beta warden for the main mansion. I will be taking over the job from today onwards. If you want anything, please let me know."
Emelia's words were professional, but Sehyun's smile widened when he heard what Emelia had to say.
"A beta, huh? I was told that the eldest of the head family was an omega. Is this some new kind of prank I am not aware of?"
Sehyun asked, but he did not sound offended by what he heard. Still, Emelia felt that it would be best to clarify any misunderstanding that was about to happen.
"The head family eldest is a little sick, so she cannot take this position. I hope you won't feel too disappointed to see me."
Emelia spoke firmly, and Sehyun flashed her a smile.
"Disappointed? It's hard to feel disappointed when something as tempting as you shows up, Miss Emelia. Ah, but do be careful, because something as tempting as you might get devoured too quickly."
