After the reunion, Bai Ling supported her husband to the tree besides the cart. As she was about to put him down, he suddenly went limp and collapsed. Bai Ling let out a panicked scream.
"Husband!"
Su Xiao heard the scream and rushed to her side. Squatting down she started examining his body while his wife continued sobbing. After examining his condition, she discovered he had pneumonia. It was dangerous and he needed treatment immediately. She carried him to a more comfortable ground and instructed Bai Ling to go get water.
Mu Wei was worried but knew he couldn't help in anyway so he remained patient. He couldn't tell what she was doing as she had her back to him. But he had this inexplicable feeling that she wouldn't harm him. Although he couldn't explain the feeling, he trusted his instincts. Su Xiao got a syringe and some medicine from her space and fed him. She injected him and feed him some nutrient fluid. After she was done, Bai Ling came back with a cup of water.
Su Xiao told her to keep it somewhere. She carried the man to the cart and laid him there. Bai Ling anxiously asked her.
"Mrs, how is my husband?"
"He will be fine"
Hearing her assuring words, she burst out in a relieved smile, repeatedly thanking her.
"Don't call me Mrs. Just call me Su Xiao since you're older than me"
"Okay, Su Xiao. Thank you for saving my husband".
"It's alright"
Mu Wei nodded in gratitude to her. His eyes had softened considerably and she attributed it to the fact that she saved his subordinate. She then remembered that this cart was already full and she needed to make another one. She called Bai Ling to go a bit into the woods and find some sturdy tree to make a cart.
Some they needed sturdy trees, they went a bit further before stopping. Su Xiao directed her to find the needed trees while she joined and assembled them. She planned to make one with a roof as she senses it was going to rain soon. Since they were camping for the night, she had all night to finish the work. Taking advantage of the distracted Bai Ling, she hammered tiny nails to firmly hold the cart.
She found some bamboo trees and assembled them together and made a roof then attached it to the cart, then used made some bamboo leafs and covered the cart completely. She just needed some blankets to put inside to sit down so she came up with an idea.
"Sister Bai, i see bamboo here. Do you think we could find some bamboo shoots?"
Bai Ling thought of it and agreed so they split to find it. Su Xiao took advantage of her absence and got three old looking blankets from her space and five bamboo shoots. She then deliberately called out.
"Sister Bai, come and take a look!"
Hearing her name being called, Bai Ling ran to her side. She saw Su Xiao holding some clothes and was surprised.
"Sister Bai, I found this clothes and these bamboo shoots here. I think it was abandon by some rich nobles so I took it".
Bai Ling thought about and felt it was true. Otherwise, how do you explain how the clothes just appeared here.
"Then bring it. It just happens I have some thread and needles with me, so I can just make some clothes for the children in my idle time".
Su Xiao was surprised at the idea. She didn't make a wrong choice. The woman didn't think of her husband but the children first. But there was no way she wasn't letting the kids wear such dirty clothes. She planned to use it to make a curtain for the two carts and the remaining as blankets. If there was any other leftover then she could use it to make cushions to sit on in the cart.
"Sister Bai, I don't think it's a good idea. I plan to use it to make curtains for the cart and blankets"
Bai Ling agreed after considering the reason
"Okay. We will go with your plan".
The cart was ready and Bai Ling praised her for her workmanship. Su Xiao was thinking of finding an honest but intelligent coach man for the cart after she secured some horses to drive the cart. She pushed the cart to the camp and everyone was in awe.
Mu Wei was also surprised. Was there anything she didn't know how to do? Just like a Pandora box, she always gave him many surprises. She took the excited kids into the cart after arranging the inside. She then attached the clothes firmly to the entrance of the cart turning into a curtain. She then supported Mu Wei and Shi Dong inside to lay down. After doing that, she asked Bai Ling to look after them while she took the other cart to fix.
After making sure everything was in order, she pushed the other cart into the woods. Some wise people followed her planning to learn from her on how to make a cart and make their journey easier for themselves. Su Xiao ignored everyone and cut the bamboo trees and assembled them to make a roof. Following the last steps she attached it to the cart and then made bamboo leafs and covered the front too. She then attached the clothes to the cart and made a curtain-like divider.
Satisfied with her work she pushed it out leaving the people frustrated. Others whose family members knew how to make wooden stuffs did theirs. Although it wasn't comfortable like that of Su Xiao, it was still practical. Those who didn't have carpenters could only trade some things to get the carpenters make for them. Their were those that couldn't bother and stayed where they were.
The ballifs turned a blind eye to all of that. As long the exiles were not trying to escape, whatever they did wasn't his concern. He had to admit that she was smart by making such a cart but it was also dangerous. Su Xiao didn't care what the people did and entered the cart to sleep. She a d Bai Ling were sleeping in one cart with the kids, while the two injured ones were sleeping in the other cart.
After all the stress of the day, Su Xiao was tired. She felt sweaty and dirty but they were not close to any water source for now. She could jump into the spring and have a refreshing bath, but that would be suspicious. She could only resign her self to the situation. After thinking for a while she was lured to sleep by the rhythmic breathing of the kids. Placing a kiss on their forehead, she slept off.
